A Multi-Material Virtual Prototyping System
This paper proposes a virtual prototyping system for digital fabrication of multimaterial prototypes. It consists mainly of a topological hierarchy-sorting algorithm for
processing slice contours, and a virtual simulation system for visualisation and optimisation
of multi-material layered manufacturing (MMLM) processes. The topological hierarchysorting algorithm processes the hierarchy relationship of complex slice contours. It builds a
parent-and-son list that defines the containment relationship of the slice contours, and
subsequently arranges the contours in an appropriate sequence which facilitates optimisation
of toolpath for MMLM by avoiding redundant movements. The virtual simulation system
simulates MMLM processes and provides vivid visualisation of the resulting multi-material

Suppression of Superconducting Critical Current Density by Small Flux Jumps in Thin Films
By doing magnetization measurements during magnetic field sweeps on thin
films of the new superconductor , it is found that in a low temperature
and low field region small flux jumps are taking place. This effect strongly
suppresses the central magnetization peak leading to reduced nominal
superconducting critical current density at low temperatures. A borderline for
this effect to occur is determined on the field-temperature (H-T) phase
diagram. It is suggested that the small size of the flux jumps in films is due
to the higher density of small defects and the relatively easy thermal

The Effect of Ion Implanting on Hydrogen Entry into Metals
The effectiveness of platinum ion implanting in mitigating hydrogen entry into 4340 steel is measured and quantified. Data are presented to compare the extent of hydrogen absorption by the substrate during electrolytic hydrogen charging of platinum ion-implanted and unimplanted 4340 steel substrates. Several implanting conditions were used in processing the samples, and the surface-limited mass-transfer coefficient was calculated for each case and used to quantify the effectiveness of each treatment in reducing hydrogen absorption. It is shown that the underlying mechanism for reducing hydrogen absorption by platinum ion-implanted substrates is the catalytic effect of platinum that favors hydrogen evolution at the steel\u27s surface over hydrogen absorption by the metal. Although scattering experiments with low energy helium ions suggest that the platinum content in the first monolayer of platinum-implanted steels is small, the ability of Pt to catalyze the hydrogen evolution reaction is still strong enough to significantly reduce the quantity of hydrogen that enters the metal
Anisotropy of the Upper Critical Field and Critical Current in Single Crystal MgB
We report on specific heat, high magnetic field transport and
susceptibility measurements on magnesium diboride single crystals. The
upper critical field for magnetic fields perpendicular and parallel to
the Mg and B planes is presented for the first time in the entire temperature
range. A very different temperature dependence has been observed in the two
directions which yields to a temperature dependent anisotropy with 5 at low temperatures and about 2 near . A peak effect is observed
in susceptibility measurements for 2 T parallel to the axis and
the critical current density presnts a sharp maximum for parallel to the

The fermi arc and fermi pocket in cuprates in a short-range diagonal stripe phase
In this paper we studied the fermi arc and the fermi pocket in cuprates in a
short-range diagonal stripe phase with wave vectors , which
reproduce with a high accuracy the positions and sizes of the fermi arc and
fermi pocket and the superstructure in cuprates observed by Meng et
al\cite{Meng}. The low-energy spectral function indicates that the fermi pocket
results from the main band and the shadow band at the fermi energy. Above the
fermi energy the shadow band gradually departs away from the main band, leaving
a fermi arc. Thus we conclude that the fermi arc and fermi pocket can be fully
attributed to the stripe phase but has nothing to do with pairing.
Incorporating a d-wave pairing potential in the stripe phase the spectral
weight in the antinodal region is removed, leaving a clean fermi pocket in the

Metabolomic variation of brassica rapa var. rapa (var. raapstelen) and raphanus sativus l. at different developmental stages
Brassica rapa (var. raapstelen) and Raphanus sativus (red radish) are being used as food and fodder while also known as model in recent plant research due to the diversity of metabolites as well as genetic resemblance to Arabidopsis. This study explains the change in metabolites (amino acids, organic acids, chlorophyll, carotenoids, tocopherols, ascorbic acid, sucrose, phenylpropanoids and glucosinolates) during plant development. In present study the metabolomic variation in relation to plant growth has been evaluated, for Brassica rapa (var. raapstelen) and red radish (Raphanus sativus) at three different developmental stages. A non-targeted and targeted metabolomic approach by NMR and HPLC in combination with Principal component analysis (PCA) of the data was used to identify phytochemicals being influenced by plant growth. The results lead to the better understanding of metabolic changes during plant development and show the importance of plant age with respect to the metabolomic profile of vegetables
The Dependence of the Superconducting Transition Temperature of Organic Molecular Crystals on Intrinsically Non-Magnetic Disorder: a Signature of either Unconventional Superconductivity or Novel Local Magnetic Moment Formation
We give a theoretical analysis of published experimental studies of the
effects of impurities and disorder on the superconducting transition
temperature, T_c, of the organic molecular crystals kappa-ET_2X and beta-ET_2X
(where ET is bis(ethylenedithio)tetrathiafulvalene and X is an anion eg I_3).
The Abrikosov-Gorkov (AG) formula describes the suppression of T_c both by
magnetic impurities in singlet superconductors, including s-wave
superconductors and by non-magnetic impurities in a non-s-wave superconductor.
We show that various sources of disorder lead to the suppression of T_c as
described by the AG formula. This is confirmed by the excellent fit to the
data, the fact that these materials are in the clean limit and the excellent
agreement between the value of the interlayer hopping integral, t_perp,
calculated from this fit and the value of t_perp found from angular-dependant
magnetoresistance and quantum oscillation experiments. If the disorder is, as
seems most likely, non-magnetic then the pairing state cannot be s-wave. We
show that the cooling rate dependence of the magnetisation is inconsistent with
paramagnetic impurities. Triplet pairing is ruled out by several experiments.
If the disorder is non-magnetic then this implies that l>=2, in which case
Occam's razor suggests that d-wave pairing is realised. Given the proximity of
these materials to an antiferromagnetic Mott transition, it is possible that
the disorder leads to the formation of local magnetic moments via some novel
mechanism. Thus we conclude that either kappa-ET_2X and beta-ET_2X are d-wave
superconductors or else they display a novel mechanism for the formation of
localised moments. We suggest systematic experiments to differentiate between
