    Ileum and colon perforation following peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis and high-dose calcium polystyrene sulfonate

    A rare but severe complication, intestinal necrosis, has been reported after sodium polystyrene sulfonate (SPS; Kayexalate) and sorbitol intake. Some case reports described bowel perforation following calcium polystyrene sulfonate (CPS; Kalimate) administration. We report a case of ileum and colon perforation following peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis and high-dose Kalimate in a 59-year-old female patient. The patient had a history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and end-stage renal disease (ESRD). During hospitalization for peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis, she developed hyperkalemia, and Kalimate was administered orally. However, severe abdominal distension and pain occurred just one day after Kalimate intake. An urgent surgery disclosed several perforations in the ileum and sigmoid colon. Pathology of the resected gut showed transmural necrosis and perforation with basophilic angulated crystals. The patient finally expired during hospitalization due to refractory septic shock

    A user device placing a mobile originating call on a network using Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) ignores P-Early-Media tags and session description protocol (SDP) in Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) packets received from the network after receiving a 180 Ringing alert packet indicating that the receiving device is ringing to minimize a delay in playing a ringback tone. The user device plays a local ringtone until the user device receives audio RTP packets containing Early Media. If the user device receives audio RTP packets containing Early Media before the call is connected, the user device plays the Early Media as a custom ringtone

    Study of sponge gourd ascorbate peroxidase and winter squash superoxide dismutase under respective flooding and chilling stresses

    AbstractThe objectives of this work were to study the responses of ascorbate peroxidase (APX), catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione reductase (GR), and physiological parameters of bitter melon (BM), sponge gourd (SG), and winter squash (WS) under waterlogged and low temperature conditions. The BM and SG plants were subjected to 0–72h flooding treatments. Moreover, BM and WS plants were exposed to chilling at 12/7°C (day/night) for 0–72h. The results show that different genotypes responded differently to environmental stress according to their various antioxidant enzymes and physiological parameters. The activity of APX in roots and leaves of SG plants significantly higher than that of BM plants during continuous flooding. Significant increases in SOD activity in leaves of WS plants were also observed throughout the entire chilling duration compared to BM plants. On the basis of our observations, we conclude that increased APX and SOD activities provide SG and WS plants with increased waterlogging and chilling stress tolerance, respectively. Both APX and SOD activities can be used for selecting BM lines with the best tolerances to water logging and chilling stresses

    Fault Zone Resistivity Structure and Monitoring at the Taiwan Chelungpu Drilling Project (TCDP)

    The Taiwan Chelungpu-fault drilling project (TCDP) has undertaken scientific drilling and directly sampled the sub-surface rupture of the 1999 Chi-Chi earthquake. Audio-magnetotelluric (AMT) measurements were used to investigate electrical resistivity structure at the TCDP site from 2004 - 2006. These data show a geoelectric strike direction of N15°E to N30°E. Inversion and forward modeling of the AMT data were used to generate a 1-D resistivity model that has a prominent low resistivity zone (< 10 ohm-m) between depths of 1100 and 1500 m. When combined with porosity measurements, theAMT measurements imply that the ground water has a resistivity of 0.55 ohm-m at the depth of the fault zone

    Distant-Time Location Prediction in Low-Sampling-Rate Trajectories

    Abstract—With the growth of location-based services and social services, low-sampling-rate trajectories from check-in data or photos with geo-tag information becomes ubiquitous. In general, most detailed moving information in low-sampling-rate trajectories are lost. Prior works have elaborated on distant-time location prediction in high-sampling-rate trajectories. However, existing prediction models are pattern-based and thus not ap-plicable due to the sparsity of data points in low-sampling-rate trajectories. For example, it becomes difficult to derive trajectory patterns, let alone utilizing trajectory patterns for distant-time location prediction. In this paper, given a query time, the current location and time, we aim to predict the location of an object at the query time. To address the sparsity in low-sampling-rate trajectories, we develop a Reachability-based prediction model on Time-constrained Mobility Graph (abbreviated as RTMG) to predict locations for distant-time queries. Specifically, we design an adaptive temporal exploration approach to extract effective supporting trajectories that are temporally close to the query time. These data points are then represented as a Time-constrained user mobility Graph (refers to as TG). In light of TG, we further derive the reachability probabilities among locations in TG. Thus, a location with maximum reachability from the current location among all possible locations in sup-porting trajectories is considered as the prediction result. To efficiently process queries, we proposed an index structure SOIT to organize location records for on-line query processing. We conduct extensive experiments on real low-sampling-rate datasets and demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of RTMG. I
