    Application of Green Intellectual Property on Green Technology in Malaysia and Its Benefit: A Review of the Literature

    Intellectual property (IP) is commonly associated with a protection of an invention. Green IP exists not only due to the changing climate but also due to the sustenance of the global eco system. Developed countries such as Japan, United States, German and France have used the green intellectual property for their green technology protection. Hence, the Malaysian government should use this system as well. The objective of this paper is to analyse the implementation of Green IP in terms of social, economic and environmental aspects. The literature review consists of journals published within the year 2007 to 2017 to determine the meaning of Green IP and how it benefits Malaysia in terms of the social, economy and environmental aspects throughout the literature review. This study will enhance the development of Malaysia's standard in green technology and the development of nation growth

    Key performance indicators for measuring sustainability in health care industry in Malaysia

    The health care industry in Malaysia was the fastest-growth industry over the past few years. In today’s competitive business environment, companies focus on improving sustainability to reduce cost and improve well-being of the environment and society. However, there are limited published studies on the evaluation of sustainability performance for the healthcare sector. This paper aims to formulate a list of key performance indicators (KPI) for the sustainability performance. First, a literature study of KPIs from various industries was carried out. Next, an in-depth meeting was conducted to gain insights and feedbacks with the management of a private hospital. Finally, a set of 70 KPIs which can be used for measuring sustainability performance in health care industry was developed.     Branding Melaka as a Complete Green City for State Image Enhancement

    The Melaka state government is embarking its vision towards Green City (GC) state by 2020. However, Melaka faces several related sustainable issues such as traffic, public transportation, health problems and others that are big challenges for the Melaka state to implement a complete Green City Branding (GCB). This study was to examine the factors that influence Melaka state towards a complete GCB and to investigate strategies of Melaka state towards a complete GCB. A qualitative approach was utilized by conducting a case study at the Melaka Green Technology Corporation (MGTC) and a semi-structured in-depth interview session was done among fifteen executives to obtain the primary data. Thus, by preventing the Melaka state from being harmed, the benefits of embarking on a complete GCB may be beneficial to the social and economic well-being for the sake of current and future generations. Future studies should be focusing on the hurdles faced by the Melaka state government in implementing a complete GCB because the state government is serious in aiming for the Green City State status

    Integrated Management System: The Converging of Key Quality Standards into Single Standard

    This paper discussed the Integrated Management System (IMS) that combined the quality (ISO 9001), environment (ISO 14001) and occupational health and safety (OHSAS 18001) management system. In order to investigate the component that can be integrated with IMS, the research focuses on identifying two parts, 1) Converged component and 2) Diverged component. A series of the interview was conducted through in-depth interviews with 5 experts in this field, while data collected were analyzed qualitatively. As a conclusion, this research identified the component in IMS that can be applied for better quality management in terms of cost, time and resources towards sustainability practices in the organization. 

    Development and characterization of poly-epsilon-caprolactone-based polymer electrolyte for lithium rechargeable battery development and characterization of poly-ε-caprolactone-based polymer electrolyte for lithium rechargeable battery

    A biodegradable polymer electrolyte based on Poly-epsilon-caprolactone (PCL) with various level of concentrations of Lithium salt and plasticizer have been synthesized under both the ambient and vacuum environments. The ionic conductivity, morphology, topology and structural properties are examined using EIS, SEM and XRD respectively. Conductivity as high as 3.48E-(04) Scm(-1) and 4.99E(-04) Scm(-1) are obtained for the ambient and vacuum environment respectively. Ionic mobility is improved by increasing the amorphousity content of the polymer and degree of salt dissociation with plasticizer. Ionic conductivity is further enhanced with the addition Li salt to increase the free ions concentration. Ionic conductivity measurements are further supported by the XRD data which reveal that sample with higher amorphous content tends to show higher conductivity. The dielectric relaxation study in terms of characteristic of the structural molecular interaction and ionic transportation properties are also carried out. Both of the conductivity and XRD results are further verified by SEM images

    Vector meson production and nucleon resonance analysis in a coupled-channel approach for energies m_N < sqrt(s) < 2 GeV II: photon-induced results

    We present a nucleon resonance analysis by simultaneously considering all pion- and photon-induced experimental data on the final states gamma N, pi N, 2 pi N, eta N, K Lambda, K Sigma, and omega N for energies from the nucleon mass up to sqrt(s) = 2 GeV. In this analysis we find strong evidence for the resonances P_{31}(1750), P_{13}(1900), P_{33}(1920), and D_{13}(1950). The omega N production mechanism is dominated by large P_{11}(1710) and P_{13}(1900) contributions. In this second part we present the results on the photoproduction reactions and the electromagnetic properties of the resonances. The inclusion of all important final states up to sqrt(s) = 2 GeV allows for estimates on the importance of the individual states for the GDH sum rule.Comment: 41 pages, 26 figures, discussion extended, typos corrected, references updated, to appear in Phys.     Pharmacogenomic associations of adverse drug reactions in asthma: systematic review and research prioritisation

    A systematic review of pharmacogenomic studies capturing adverse drug reactions (ADRs) related to asthma medications was undertaken, and a survey of Pharmacogenomics in Childhood Asthma (PiCA) consortia members was conducted. Studies were eligible if genetic polymorphisms were compared with suspected ADR(s) in a patient with asthma, as either a primary or secondary outcome. Five studies met the inclusion criteria. The ADRs and polymorphisms identified were change in lung function tests (rs1042713), adrenal suppression (rs591118), and decreased bone mineral density (rs6461639) and accretion (rs9896933, rs2074439). Two of these polymorphisms were replicated within the paper, but none had external replication. Priorities from PiCA consortia members (representing 15 institution in eight countries) for future studies were tachycardia (SABA/LABA), adrenal suppression/crisis and growth suppression (corticosteroids), sleep/behaviour disturbances (leukotriene receptor antagonists), and nausea and vomiting (theophylline). Future pharmacogenomic studies in asthma should collect relevant ADR data as well as markers of efficacy
