Effect of plant growth regulators on leaf biochemical parameters (chlorophyll pigments, sugars, nitrate reductase activity, total phenols) and fruit yield bitter gourd (Momordica charantia L.) was studied. The experiment consisted of foliar treatment with three plant growth regulators, GA3 (20, 40 and 60ppm), NAA (50ppm) and CCC (100 and 200ppm) in two bittergourd varieties, MHBI-15 and Chaman Plus at 45 days after sowing (DAS). Results revealed significant difference between treatments on chlorophyll, sugar, total phenol content as also on nitrate reductase activity. Foliar application of CCC (200ppm) recorded maximum amount of total sugars (18.03% over Control), total phenol content (10.93%) as also nitrate reductase activity (16.12%). Among the treatments, application of GA3 (20ppm) recorded maximum chlorophyll content (18.03% over Control). Highest increase in mean fruit yield over Control was recorded with application of GA3 (20ppm) (39.88%), followed by CCC (200ppm) (34.15%) in both the cultivars

A simple, reversed-phase Ultra-performance liquid chromatographic (RP-UPLC) method for the simultaneous determination of five pesticides namely Monocrotophos, Thiram, Carbendazim, Carbaryl and Imidacloprid has been developed. This method involves sample preparation by QueCherS method and quantification by ultra performance liquid chromatography with   tunable dual wavelength detector. The mobile phase composition was varied to improve peak resolution and peak sensitivity. Choosing the match between the stationary phase and mobile phase composition, the developed RP-UPLC method not only can simplify the procedure but also significantly reduce the analysis time. The method presents an average recovery of 87.9% and 96.9%, in repeatability and intermediate precision conditions, respectively, with adequate precision (RSD from 0.8 to 20.7%), for all compounds. The method was applied to determine these pesticide residues in chilli samples

Introduction: Laser therapy and stimulation of the acupuncture points are anti-inflammatory and analgesic alternative treatments in dentistry. Objective: to describe the use of low power laser therapy in the emergency treatment of apical periodontitis after endodontic treatment during 2018.Methods: observational, descriptive, longitudinal, and prospective study of patients who attended emergency department at Guama Dentistry Clinic during 2018, Pinar del Río, presenting apical periodontitis after endodontic treatment; 86 patients participated in the study. Descriptive statistics was applied, respecting the bioethical principles. Results: female gender predominated (53,49 %), apical periodontitis after endodontic treatment was more prevalent in the age group 20-24 (30,23 %); 65,5 % of the patients presented remission and relief after the third treatment session. Only 2,33 % needed more than six treatment sessions. Conclusions: apical periodontitis after endodontic treatment is more common in women during the first half of the second decade of life. The treatment showed effectiveness from the first treatment sessions.

Seed Quality Behaviour Variation of Moth Bean during Storage in Different Packaging

An experiment was carried out in order to assess the behavior of the moth bean seed quality in 4 types of packaging including cloth, gunny, HDPE, and vacuum-packed bags for 18 months. After two months of storage, the moisture content of the seeds fluctuated greatly in cloth, gunny, and HDPE bags (conventional packaging) because these materials are pervious, but the moisture content of the seeds did not vary in vacuum packed bags as the polythene bag used for the vacuum package was thicker, had a lower water vapor and oxygen transmission rate. Further, seeds in conventional packaging’s developed bruchid infestations after 4 months of storage but no infestation was found in vacuum-packed bags until 18 months. The bruchid infestation caused the germination rate of the seeds to drop to less than 20%.  In comparison to the initial state, even after 18 months of storage, there was little change in the parameters used for measuring seed quality (germination, total seedling length, seedling dry weight, moisture content, and protein content). Therefore, without the use of chemicals, moth bean seeds can be safely stored using vacuum packaging technology
