    Corporate Social Responsibility is all about companies playing their responsible part in society and giving back to society and a big part of that is fund raising for valuable cause. Companies engage in Corporate Social Responsibility when they grant benefits to the communities where they work which are neither required by law nor an integral part of their primary objective is profit oriented company. Today, however businesses must also reflect on the legal, ethical, moral and social consequences of their decisions. The purpose of working on this paper is to identify the ethical issues faced by the organization and how the unethical behavior in organization is excessively aggressive to achieve business objectives. Evidences suggest that social corporate responsibility and the maintenance of high ethical standards is not an option but an obligation for all businesses. This paper also draws the inferences that often have the ethical implications of an action are overlooked for personal gain and the benefits are usually material. This frequently manifests itself in companies that attempt to cheat environmental regulations

    Study on post partum intrauterine contraceptive device practices and causes for discontinuation of PPIUCD at follow up in a tertiary hospital

    Background: Post partum contraception is the best evidence based intervention in prevention of pregnancy and abortion related maternal morbidity and mortality in the developing countries. The unmet need for contraception among women in the postpartum period can be effectively fulfilled by post partum insertion of IUCD, in a single visit under the Government scheme of providing free maternity services during institutional delivery. Despite optimal efforts by family planning program, very few couples are opting for spacing methods and lack of awareness has resulted in discontinuation of family planning methods particularly PPIUCD. This study is designed to study the practices of PPIUCD and causes for discontinuation at follow up in our hospital. The objectives of the study were study PPIUCD practices at Vanivilas hospital; causes for discontinuation of PPIUCD.Methods: Prospective study done at Vanivilas hospital attached to Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute from January 2014 to December 2014. Women admitted and delivered at VVH, were counselled. CuT 380A was inserted in accepters who fulfilled the Medical Eligibility Criteria and had no contraindications for PPIUCD. They were followed up till June 2016.Results: There were 2072 PPIUCD insertions in one year, out of which 1244 were post placental, 139 were in immediate postpartum and 689 were intra caesarean insertions. Fifty four (54) women discontinued PPIUCD during follow up .Main causes for removal were menstrual abnormalities (19), pain abdomen (13), wanting sterilisation procedure (12) and marital disharmony.Conclusions: PPIUCD is an effective, safe, reversible method of long term contraception with high reported expulsion and low perforation rate, compared to interval insertion. More research is needed in the field of PPIUCD to enhance awareness and acceptance in the community. Awareness and counselling the eligible couples during ante natal care can improve acceptance and compliance of PPIUCD continuation rates

    Diagnostic accuracy in rotator cuff tears: clinical tests vs MRI

    Background: Till date there is a lack of consensus regarding validity of clinical tests in identifying the rotator cuff injuries and also the predictive value of noninvasive investigations done to confirm such shoulder pathology.Methods: We included 48 patients with shoulder complaints in our study who underwent blinded clinical examination and MRI of shoulder, whose findings were compared with arthroscopic findings and were statistically analyzed.Results: In the study group mean age was 47 years and 71% were males. When compared with arthroscopy, clinical examination for supraspinatus had better sensitivity (90) but low specificity and negative predictive value (NPV) (37.5). MRI evaluation of supraspinatus had specificity of 85 and NPV of 60. Infraspinatus had almost similar statistical values. MRI was found to have better specificity (89.5) in comparison with clinical examination (52.6) in subscapularis evaluation along with higher positive (67 vs. 30) and negative predictive value (94 vs. 90).Conclusions: Clinical examination is good in identifying lesion or tear of supraspinatus and subscapularis but may also have false positives, where usage of noninvasive MRI will reduce these false positive in comparison with gold standard arthroscopy. Although clinical examination is very useful for diagnosis of rotator cuff injuries, MRI could be used to improve specificity and predictive values in patients who are planned for surgical management of rotator cuff injury

    Trust correlation of mobile agent nodes with a regular node in a Adhoc network using decision-making strategy

    A mobile agent offers discrete advantage both in facilitating better transmission as well as controlling the traffic load in Mobile Adhoc Network (MANET). Hence, such forms of network offers maximized dependencies on mobile agents in terms of its trust worthiness. At present, there are various work being carried out towards resisting security breach in MANET; however approaches using mobile agent based mechanism is few to found. Therefore, the proposed system introduces a novel mathematical model where an extensive decision making system has been constructed for identifying the malicious intention of mobile agents in case they go rogues. By adopting multi-tier communication policy and fairness concept, the proposed system offers the capability to resist any form of malicious activity of mobile agent without even presence of any apriori information of adversary. The outcome shows proposed system outshines existing security scheme in MANET

    Novel framework using dynamic passphrase towards secure and energy-efficient communication in MANET

    At Mobile Adhoc Network (MANET) has been long-researched topic in adhoc network owing to the associated advantages in its cost-effective application as well as consistent loophopes owing to its inherent charecteristics. This manuscript draws a relationship between the energy factor and security factor which has not been emphasized in any existing studies much. Review of existing security approaches shows that they are highly attack specific, uses complex encryption, and overlooks the involvement of energy factor in it. Therefore, the proposed system introduces a novel mechanism where security tokens and passphrases are utilized in order to offer better security. The proposed system also introduces the usage of an agent node which communications with mobile nodes using group-based communication system thereby ensuring reduced computational effort of mobile nodes towards establishing secured communication. The outcome shows proposed system offers better outcome in contrast to existing system

    Tomograms of Spinning Black Holes

    The classical internal structure of spinning black holes is vastly different from that of static black holes. We consider spinning BTZ black holes, and probe their interior from the gauge theory. Utilizing the simplicity of the geometry and reverse engineering from the geodesics, we propose a thermal correlator construction which can be interpreted as arising from two entangled CFTs. By analytic continuation of these correlators, we can probe the Cauchy horizon. Correlators that capture the Cauchy horizon in our work have a structure closely related to those that capture the singularity in a non-rotating BTZ. As expected, the regions beyond the Cauchy horizon are not probed in this picture, protecting cosmic censorship.Comment: 41 pages, 7 figure

    Towards reducing tension-compression yield and cyclic asymmetry in pure magnesium and magnesium-aluminum alloy with cerium addition

    In this study, we report the effect of cerium (Ce) addition on the tension-compression yield and cyclic asymmetry in commercially pure magnesium (Cp-Mg) and Mg-Al alloy at room temperature (RT). The materials examined include extruded and annealed Cp-Mg, Mg-0.5Ce, and Mg-3Al-0.5Ce alloys. Incorporation of 0.5wt.% Ce in pure Mg results in the weakening of its basal texture, uniform distribution of Mg12Ce precipitates, and refinement of the grain size. Consequently, the tensile yield strength and ductility of pure Mg increase, and tension-compression yield asymmetry is eliminated. However, the presence of 3wt.% Al in Mg suppresses the beneficial effects of Ce addition. The formation of complex precipitates, such as Mg-Al-Ce and Al11Ce3, limits the weakening of the basal texture, reduction in grain size, improvement in ductility, and elimination of tension-compression yield asymmetry observed in Mg-0.5Ce. Nevertheless, Al contributes to the solid solution strengthening in Mg, resulting in the highest tensile yield strength of Mg-3Al-0.5Ce. Finally, the addition of 0.5wt.% Ce enhances the cyclic strength, stabilizes cyclic stress response, reduces inelastic strain, and minimizes cyclic asymmetry in both pure Mg and Mg-Al alloy while maintaining a comparable fatigue life. Overall, Ce addition positively impacts the microstructure and mechanical behavior of pure Mg and its investigated alloy. The reasons for these improvements are discussed in detail

    On the smoothness of multi-M2 brane horizons

    We calculate the degree of horizon smoothness of multi- M2M2-brane solution with branes along a common axis. We find that the metric is generically only thrice continuously differentiable at any of the horizons. The four-form field strength is found to be only twice continuously differentiable. We work with Gaussian null-like co-ordinates which are obtained by solving geodesic equations for multi-M2M2 brane geometry. We also find different, exact co-ordinate transformations which take the metric from isotropic co-ordinates to co-ordinates in which metric is thrice differentiable at the horizon. Both methods give the same result that the multi-M2M2 brane metric is only thrice continuously differentiable at the horizon.Comment: 24 pages, reference added, modified equation for non-singularity of metri

    Assessment of growth and yield parameters in recombinant inbred line populations of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) through correlation and path analysis

    Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is high value crop, also called as protective food due to its high nutritional and biochemical compounds. Correlation and path analysis was carried out for 147 tomato recombinant inbred line population. Correlation studies suggested that the association of fruit yield per plant was positive and significant with plant height (0.595), branches per plant (0.657), fruits per cluster (0.500), clusters per plant (0.717), average fruit weight (0.244) and fruits per plant (0.891). Path analysis revealed that among eleven characters studied only two characters viz., average fruit weight (0.415) and fruits per plant (0.817) showed very high positive and direct effect on yield per plant. This study helps to understand the mutual relationship among various traits thereby assist in selecting the character contributing to the yield

    Adaptive response to low dose of EMS or MMS in human peripheral blood lymphocytes

    Human peripheral blood lymphocytes stimulated in vitro for 6 hr were exposed to a low (conditioning) dose of ethyl methanesulfonate (EMS; 1.5 x 10(-4) M) or methyl methanesulfonate (MMS; 1.5 x 10(-5) M). After 6 hr, the cells were treated with a high (challenging) concentration of the same agent (1.5 x 10(-3) M EMS or 1.5 x 10(-4) M MMS). The cells that received both conditioning and challenging doses became less sensitive to the induction of sister chromatid exchanges (SCEs) than those which did not receive the pretreatment with EMS or MMS. They responded with lower frequencies of SCEs. This suggests that conditioning dose of EMS or MMS has offered the lymphocytes to have decreased SCEs. This led to the realization that pre-exposure of lymphocytes to low dose can cause the induction of repair activity. This is a clear indication of the existence of adaptive response induced by alkylating agents whether it is ethylating or methylating in human lymphocytes in vitro
