Compensation in Chechen disappearance cases
This article highlights a recent increase in the level of awards of damages in Chechen disappearance cases. On 27 July 2006, the ECtHR found Russia responsible for the 'disappearance' and presumed death of Khadzhi-Murat Yandiyev, a 25-year-old Chechen. Bazorkina v Russia (No. 69481/01) 11/12/06 was a landmark case not only because it was the first Chechen disappearance case to be decided by the ECtHR, but also as it provided a guide as to how much the ECtHR would grant in terms of compensation in similar cases. The €35,000 awarded in non-pecuniary damages to Khadzhi-Murat’s mother became the benchmark for compensation in Chechen disappearance cases for the next few years

A Geometric Approach to Multiple-View Triangulation for Fisheye Cameras
Abstract It is well-known that fisheye cameras can be very useful in real applications due to their large field of view when compared to classic perspective cameras. This paper considers the fundamental problem of multiple-view triangulation for fisheye cameras. A geometric criterion is introduced in this paper for this problem, which consists of determining the scene point that minimizes the angles between the projections of the available image points and of the sought point itself. A solution based on convex optimization is proposed in this paper for this criterion, which consists of solving an eigenvalue problem. Numerical investigations carried out with synthetic and real data suggest that the proposed criterion provides significantly better estimates than algebraic criteria
Time-invariant uncertain systems: a necessary and sufficient condition for stability and instability via HPD-QLFs
Abstract This paper investigates linear systems with polynomial dependence on time-invariant uncertainties constrained in the simplex via homogeneous parameter-dependent quadratic Lyapunov functions (HPD-QLFs). It is shown that a sufficient condition for establishing whether the system is either stable or unstable can be obtained by solving a generalized eigenvalue problem. Moreover, this condition is also necessary by using a sufficiently large degree of the HPD-QLF
