    Articulated Model Registration of MRI/X-Ray Spine Data

    Collection : Lecture Notes in Computer Science ; vol. 6112This paper presents a method based on articulated models for the registration of spine data extracted from multimodal medical images of patients with scoliosis. With the ultimate aim being the development of a complete geometrical model of the torso of a scoliotic patient, this work presents a method for the registration of vertebral column data using 3D magnetic resonance images (MRI) acquired in prone position and X-ray data acquired in standing position for five patients with scoliosis. The 3D shape of the vertebrae is estimated from both image modalities for each patient, and an articulated model is used in order to calculate intervertebral transformations required in order to align the vertebrae between both postures. Euclidean distances between anatomical landmarks are calculated in order to assess multimodal registration error. Results show a decrease in the Euclidean distance using the proposed method compared to rigid registration and more physically realistic vertebrae deformations compared to thin-plate-spline (TPS) registration thus improving alignment.IRS

    Spectral Log-Demons: Diffeomorphic Image Registration with Very Large Deformations

    International audienceThis paper presents a new framework for capturing large and complex deformations in image registration and atlas construction. This challenging and recurrent problem in computer vision and medical imaging currently relies on iterative and local approaches, which are prone to local minima and, therefore, limit present methods to relatively small deformations. Our general framework introduces to this effect a new direct feature matching technique that finds global correspondences between images via simple nearest-neighbor searches. More specifically, very large image deformations are captured in Spectral Forces, which are derived from an improved graph spectral representation. We illustrate the benefits of our framework through a new enhanced version of the popular Log-Demons algorithm, named the Spectral Log-Demons, as well as through a groupwise extension, named the Groupwise Spectral Log-Demons, which is relevant for atlas construction. The evaluations of these extended versions demonstrate substantial improvements in accuracy and robustness to large deformations over the conventional Demons approaches

    International audienceThis articles aims to examine current trends in food processing industries in the Mediterranean through two perspectives: on the one hand, the evolving presence of multinationals, and the emergence of new local enterprises on the other hand. Recently, these two concomitant movements deeply modify the structure of agrifood chains, of food supply and demand in these countries. These structural changes in institutional and economic landscape in many countries of southern and eastern Mediterranean. The geopolitical outlook and the going regional construction-integration impose new challenges to this region.L'objet de cet article est d'analyser les tendances actuelles des industries agroalimentaires en Méditerranée à travers deux optiques : l'évolution de la présence des firmes multinationales d'une part, et l'émergence des nouveaux acteurs locaux d'autre part. Depuis quelques années, ces deux mouvements concomitants modifient profondément les structures des filières, de l'offre et de la demande agroalimentaires dans ces pays. Ces changements structurels se font aussi sur une base de croissance démographique soutenue, de modifications des paysages institutionnels et économiques dans de nombreux pays du Sud et de l'Est de la Méditerranée. Les perspectives géopolitiques et la construction-intégration régionale en cours imposent ainsi de nouveaux défis aux entreprises agroalimentaires de cette région
