OBJECTIVES To validate a self-expanding transcatheter valve for off-pump transatrial mitral valve-in-ring (VIR) implantation via a left thoracotomy. METHODS Mitral valve annuloplasty was performed via sternotomy during cardiopulmonary bypass on 9 pigs. After successful weaning from extracorporal circulation, the custom-made, self-expanding transcatheter VIR device was deployed under fluoroscopic guidance within the annuloplasty ring via a left thoracotomy. Hemodynamic data before and after the implantation were recorded. Mitral annulus diameter and valve area were measured by echocardiography. Transvalvular and left-ventricular outflow-tract pressure gradient were measured invasively. RESULTS Eight successful implantations were performed. Implantation failed in 1 pig because of difficulty with technical delivery of the sheath. Mean transatrial procedure time was 12.6 ± 1.7 min. Hemodynamic status during transatrial implantation was stable, and differences were not statistically significant. Mean mitral annulus diameter and mean mitral orifice area were 2.32 ± 0.2 and 3.84 ± 0.55 cm2, respectively. Mild regurgitation was detected in 7 animals and moderate regurgitation in 1. Mean gradients were 6.1 ± 5.0 mm Hg across the device. Postmortem examination confirmed adequate positioning of devices within the annuloplasty ring. CONCLUSIONS This custom-made transcatheter device allows for safe and reproducible off-pump transatrial mitral VIR implantations. Transatrial access is a promising route to facilitate VIR implantations. Our custom-made stent-valve may be suitable for VIR procedures

Background: An endophytic fungus lives within a healthy plant during certain stages of, or throughout, its life cycle. Endophytic fungi do not always cause plant disease, and they include fungi that yield different effects, including mutual benefit, and neutral and pathogenic effects. Endophytic fungi promote plant growth, improve the host plant's resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses, and can produce the same or similar biologically active substances as the host. Thus, endophytic fungal products have important implications in drug development. Result: Among the numerous endophytic fungi, we identified two strains, L10Q37 and LQ2F02, that have anti-acetylcholinesterase activity, but the active compound was not huperzine A. The aim of this study was to investigate the anti-acetylcholinesterase activity of secondary metabolites isolated from the endophytic fungi of Huperzia serrata . Microbial cultivation and fermentation were used to obtain secondary metabolites. Active components were then extracted from the secondary metabolites, and their activities were tracked. Two compounds that were isolated from endophytic fungi of H. serrata were identified and had acetylcholine inhibitory activities. In conclusion, endophytic fungal strains were found in H. serrata that had the same anti-acetylcholinesterase activity. Conclusion: We isolated 4 compounds from the endophytic fungus L10Q37, among them S1 and S3 are new compounds. 6 compounds were isolated from LQ2F02, all 6 compounds are new compounds. After tested anti acetylcholinesterase activity, S5 has the best activity. Other compounds' anti acetylcholinesterase activity was not better compared with huperzine A

Crosstalk-Reduced Double-Layer Half-Divided Volume Holographic Concentrator for Solar Energy Concentration

A new double-layer sunlight concentration system, where each layer is divided into two regions, is proposed, and the system has four volume holograms. Since the four holograms convert light in different directions, the interlayer crosstalk is reduced, and the system has a high concentration ratio. The simulation results show that the concentration system can achieve a 30° operation angle range. The holograms are fabricated on photopolymer substrates, and the left half of the system is implemented using two holograms. The characteristics of the left half of the system are assessed. The agreement of the simulation and experimental results on diffraction efficiency validates the proposed method. The tested monochromatic concentration ratio can achieve a record of 418.8, and the concentration ratio under sunlight is 5.38. The experiment results of light use efficiency are close to the simulation with non-crosstalk, which indicates that the interlayer crosstalk is small

Features of the Asynchronous Correlation between the China Coal Price Index and Coal Mining Accidental Deaths.

The features of the asynchronous correlation between accident indices and the factors that influence accidents can provide an effective reference for warnings of coal mining accidents. However, what are the features of this correlation? To answer this question, data from the China coal price index and the number of deaths from coal mining accidents were selected as the sample data. The fluctuation modes of the asynchronous correlation between the two data sets were defined according to the asynchronous correlation coefficients, symbolization, and sliding windows. We then built several directed and weighted network models, within which the fluctuation modes and the transformations between modes were represented by nodes and edges. Then, the features of the asynchronous correlation between these two variables could be studied from a perspective of network topology. We found that the correlation between the price index and the accidental deaths was asynchronous and fluctuating. Certain aspects, such as the key fluctuation modes, the subgroups characteristics, the transmission medium, the periodicity and transmission path length in the network, were analyzed by using complex network theory, analytical methods and spectral analysis method. These results provide a scientific reference for generating warnings for coal mining accidents based on economic indices

An optical encryption method based on computer generated holograms printing of photopolymer is presented. Fraunhofer diffraction is performed based on the Gerchberg-Saxton algorithm, and a hologram of the Advanced Encryption Standard encrypted Quick Response code is generated to record the ciphertext. The holograms of the key and the three-dimensional image are generated by the angular spectrum diffraction algorithm. The experimental results show that large-size encrypted Quick Response (QR) code and miniature keys can be printed in photopolymers, which has good application prospects in optical encryption. This method has the advantages of high-density storage, high speed, large fault tolerance, and anti-peeping

SERS (Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy) can realize fingerprint recognition of molecular samples with high detection accuracy and sensitivity. However, rapid and convenient measurement of the Raman spectra of analytes for a point-of-care test (POCT) has put forward a high demand for portable Raman spectrometers, as well as reliable SERS substrates. Hereby, we first utilize a smartphone as a miniaturized Raman spectral analyzer, which has the revolutionary advantages of a friendly human-machine interface, fast measurement time, and good sensitivity. Meanwhile, a paper-based SERS chip was prepared based on commonly used filter paper and silver nanoparticles (AgNP), which was successfully used to detect low concentrations of typical SERS analyte model molecules including rhodamine 6G and crystal violet. The current method of smartphone-based SERS spectroscopy as a POCT device will greatly promote the application of Raman technology in a variety of scenarios, such as safety inspections, pesticide residue detection, water pollution monitoring, and so on. Coupled with paper-based SERS chips with advantages of facile preparation, low cost and good reliability, the current work proves to have a great potential for industrial production and for meeting the vast marketing demand of Raman based POCT technology.</p
