Marketing in SMEs: a '4Ps' self-branding model
Purpose â The purpose of this paper is to explore the extent to which traditional marketing theory and practice can be applied in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and consider how owner-managers perceive their own role in marketing within a small business setting. Design/methodology/approach â A qualitative exploratory approach using semi-structured in-depth interviews amongst owner-managers of SMEs in the UK. Findings â SME marketing is effective in that it embraces some relevant concepts of traditional marketing, tailors activities to match its customers and adds its own unique attribute of self-branding as bestowed by the SME owner-manager. Research limitations/implications â The study was limited to the UK and to a small sample of SMEs and as such the findings are not necessarily generalisable. Originality/value â A â4Psâ model for SME self-branding is proposed, which encompasses the attributes of personal branding, (co)production, perseverance and practice
Umbral Moonshine and the Niemeier Lattices
In this paper we relate umbral moonshine to the Niemeier lattices: the 23
even unimodular positive-definite lattices of rank 24 with non-trivial root
systems. To each Niemeier lattice we attach a finite group by considering a
naturally defined quotient of the lattice automorphism group, and for each
conjugacy class of each of these groups we identify a vector-valued mock
modular form whose components coincide with mock theta functions of Ramanujan
in many cases. This leads to the umbral moonshine conjecture, stating that an
infinite-dimensional module is assigned to each of the Niemeier lattices in
such a way that the associated graded trace functions are mock modular forms of
a distinguished nature. These constructions and conjectures extend those of our
earlier paper, and in particular include the Mathieu moonshine observed by
Eguchi-Ooguri-Tachikawa as a special case. Our analysis also highlights a
correspondence between genus zero groups and Niemeier lattices. As a part of
this relation we recognise the Coxeter numbers of Niemeier root systems with a
type A component as exactly those levels for which the corresponding classical

Semiclassical Time Evolution of the Holes from Luttinger Hamiltonian
We study the semi-classical motion of holes by exact numerical solution of
the Luttinger model. The trajectories obtained for the heavy and light holes
agree well with the higher order corrections to the abelian and the non-abelian
adiabatic theories in Ref. [1] [S. Murakami et al., Science 301, 1378(2003)],
respectively. It is found that the hole trajectories contain rapid oscillations
reminiscent of the "Zitterbewegung" of relativistic electrons. We also comment
on the non-conservation of helicity of the light holes.Comment: 4 pages, 5 fugure
Coexistence and competition of multiple charge-density-wave orders in rare-earth tri-telluride RTe3
The occurrences of collective quantum states, such as superconductivity (SC)
and charge- or spin-densitywaves (CDWs or SDWs), are among the most fascinating
phenomena in solids. To date much effort has been made to explore the interplay
between different orders, yet little is known about the relationship of
multiple orders of the same type. Here we report optical spectroscopy study on
CDWs in the rare-earth tri-telluride compounds RTe3 (R = rare earth elements).
Besides the prior reported two CDW orders, the study reveals unexpectedly the
presence of a third CDW order in the series which evolves systematically with
the size of R element. With increased chemical pressure, the first and third
CDW orders are both substantially suppressed and compete with the second one by
depleting the low energy spectral weight. A complete phase diagram for the
multiple CDW orders in this series is established.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, 1 tabl
