Taiwan`s domestic politics since the presidential elections 2000

    Get PDF
This paper looks at several developments that have taken place in domestic politics on Taiwan since the election of Chen Shui-bian as president of the Republic of China on Taiwan in 1998. After discussing the political successes and failures of the incumbent Chen administration, it analyses its strategy in dealing with the consequences of divided government. Some of the problems encountered by the administration are traced to changes in the political system of Taiwan that took place during the presidency of Lee Teng-hui. The paper also deals with the new role of the president as chief executive and functioning of the legislative. Finally, the reaction of the major political parties to the changes in the political situation is explored. --Taiwan,domestic politics, divided government, political system, party system,Chen Shui-bian,Lee Teng-hui

A Perturbative QCD Based Study of Polarized Nucleon Structure in the Transition Region and Beyond: "Quarks, Color Neutral Clusters, and Hadrons"

A large fraction of the world data on both polarized and unpolarized inclusive epep scattering at large Bjorken xx lies in the resonance region where a correspondence with the deep inelastic regime, known as Bloom and Gilman's duality, was observed. Recent analyses of the Q2Q^2 dependence of the data show that parton-hadron duality is inconsistent with the twist expansion at low values of the final state invariant mass. We investigate the nature of this disagreement, and we interpret its occurrence in terms of contributions from non partonic degrees of freedom in a preconfinement model.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure, to be published in the Proceedings of the "3rd International Symposium on the Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn Sum Rule and its Extensions", Editors, J.P. Prediction of the Number of New Cases of Covid-19 in Indonesia Using Fuzzy Time Series Model Chen

Coronavirus Diseases 2019 (Covid-19) is a disease caused by a virus that originated in Wuhan, China. This virus infects people rapidly to the country of Indonesia. According to the latest Covid-19 Development Team in Indonesia, as of 09/08/2021, there were around 3,686,740 people who were confirmed positive for Covid-19. With the numbers continuing to grow, predictions of new cases of Covid-19 in Indonesia were made using the time series method. The method used by the researcher is Chen's Fuzzy Time Series. The purpose of the researcher is to forecast, to find out the prediction of the number of new cases of Covid-19 in Indonesia using the FTS Chen method into software. In addition, in order to provide information to predict, so that the government knows and can make decisions. To measure the performance of the method, the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) is used as a measure of the level of accuracy of the forecasting performed. The test data used were 363 data with several variations of parameters  & . From the results of the analysis that was tested by the researcher, with 50 trials of parameter input, better accuracy results were obtained at input  = 135135 and  = 2000 with MAPE is 35.55006797 (35%)

Generalized reduction criterion for separability of quantum states

A new necessary separability criterion that relates the structures of the total density matrix and its reductions is given. The method used is based on the realignment method [K. Chen and L.A. Wu, Quant. Inf. Comput. 3, 193 (2003)]. The new separability criterion naturally generalizes the reduction separability criterion introduced independently in previous work of [M. Horodecki and P. Horodecki, Phys. Rev. A 59, 4206 (1999)] and [N.J. Cerf, C. Adami and R.M. Gingrich, Phys. Rev. A 60, 898 (1999)]. In special cases, it recovers the previous reduction criterion and the recent generalized partial transposition criterion [K. Chen and L.A. Wu, Phys. Lett. A 306, 14 (2002)]. The criterion involves only simple matrix manipulations and can therefore be easily applied.Comment: 17 pages, 2 figure

Four seasons: A study of Chen Yi's Si Ji

The purpose of this study is to draw attention to the hybrid of Eastern and Western musical elements, in Chen Yi???s orchestral work Si Ji. In this dissertation, Chen Yi???s Si Ji will be thoroughly discussed by a detailed analysis of the work as well as the background of Chen Yi???s musical world, and the poetry she is inspired by. It will show how the music produces a hybrid of East and West. I hope this dissertation will serve as a valuable source for other composers seeking their own musical colors, as well as researchers interested in the crossing of Eastern and Western music

Economic Sizing of Distributed Energy Resources for Reliable Community Microgrids

Community microgrids offer many advantages for power distribution systems. When there is an extreme event happening, distribution systems can be seamlessly partitioned into several community microgrids for uninterrupted supply to the end-users. In order to guarantee the system reliability, distributed energy resources (DERs) should be sized for ensuring generation adequacy to cover unexpected events. This paper presents a comprehensive methodology for DERs selection in community microgrids, and an economic approach to meet the system reliability requirements. Algorithms of discrete time Fourier transform (DTFT) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) are employed to find the optimal solution. Uncertainties of load demand and renewable generation are taken into consideration. As part of the case study, a sensitivity analysis is carried out to show the renewable generation impact on DERs' capacity planning.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figures, 1 table, 2017 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1708.0102

    Chen Shui-bian: on independence

    No full text
Chen Shui-bian achieved an international reputation for his promotion of Taiwan independence. Whilst that reputation may have been well earned, the analyses on which this conclusion is based are frequently flawed in two ways. First, by using an undifferentiated notion of independence, they tend to conflate sovereignty with less threatening expressions of Taiwanese identity and pro-democracy discourse. Second, by failing to take into account the impact of immediate strategic context, analysts ignore a fundamental element of democratic political communication. In our empirical analysis of more than 2,000 of Chen’s speeches, we seek to avoid both flaws by unpacking the concept of independence and taking into account Chen’s strategic relationship with his primary audiences. Our findings challenge popular portrayals of Chen, but more importantly they have strong implications for policy makers and students of political rhetoric with regard to current and future ROC presidents
