    A purely logic-based approach to approximate matching of Semantic Web Services

    Most current approaches to matchmaking of semantic Web services utilize hybrid strategies consisting of logic- and non-logic-based similarity measures (or even no logic-based similarity at all). This is mainly due to pure logic-based matchers achieving a good precision, but very low recall values. We present a purely logic-based matcher implementation based on approximate subsumption and extend this approach to take additional information about the taxonomy of the background ontology into account. Our aim is to provide a purely logic-based matchmaker implementation, which also achieves reasonable recall levels without large impact on precision

    Manager\u27s Perspectives on the Provision of Healthy Meals in Resort Hotels

    This research aimed to understand hotel managers’ attitudes toward the provision of healthy meals. The study deployed a mailing survey to assess the managers’ perceptions. A closed-ended questionnaire was developed evaluating the role of healthy food choices in Mediterranean resort hotels. The findings showed that (1) atmosphere in the restaurant, (2) appealing display of food, and (3) eating habits and lifestyle were more important than personal health when selecting a meal. In addition, this study suggested that the managers were not ready to promote healthy eating because their customers would have been critical of this new service concep

    Factors influencing healthy meal choice in Germany

    The aim of this study is to discover what German restaurant customers consider to be healthy. Owing to the paucity of literature on healthy meals, this research attempts to initiate an exploratory investigation testing a new psychological construct of health meals by using college students as the study population. The proposed scale consists of three dimensions (nutrition value, organic content, and gastronomy), which are defined by 16 attributes. This study finds that low in fat is the major consideration for selecting healthy meals, whereas the aroma of meals is not a concern for healthy meal choice. In the final analysis 15 indicators are retained in the measurement scale after the reliability test. Since the dimension of organic content has the highest reliability score, it could be best utilized as the surrogate indicator assessing the perception of a healthy meal. The derived scale is rather embryonic since it is tested only on German students. It is suggested that the scale should be further tested by drawing large samples from heterogeneous populations to boost the scale\u27s construct validity so as to collect samples from restaurant goers with different cultural background

    Does Fiat-Shamir Require a Cryptographic Hash Function?

    The Fiat-Shamir transform is a general method for reducing interaction in public-coin protocols by replacing the random verifier messages with deterministic hashes of the protocol transcript. The soundness of this transformation is usually heuristic and lacks a formal security proof. Instead, to argue security, one can rely on the random oracle methodology, which informally states that whenever a random oracle soundly instantiates Fiat-Shamir, a hash function that is ``sufficiently unstructured\u27\u27 (such as fixed-length SHA-2) should suffice. Finally, for some special interactive protocols, it is known how to (1) isolate a concrete security property of a hash function that suffices to instantiate Fiat-Shamir and (2) build a hash function satisfying this property under a cryptographic assumption such as Learning with Errors. In this work, we abandon this methodology and ask whether Fiat-Shamir truly requires a cryptographic hash function. Perhaps surprisingly, we show that in two of its most common applications --- building signature schemes as well as (general-purpose) non-interactive zero-knowledge arguments --- there are sound Fiat-Shamir instantiations using extremely simple and non-cryptographic hash functions such as sum-mod-p or bit decomposition. In some cases, we make idealized assumptions about the interactive protocol (i.e., we invoke the generic group model), while in others, we argue soundness in the plain model. At a high level, the security of each resulting non-interactive protocol derives from hard problems already implicit in the original interactive protocol. On the other hand, we also identify important cases in which a cryptographic hash function is provably necessary to instantiate Fiat-Shamir. We hope that this work leads to an improved understanding of the precise role of the hash function in the Fiat-Shamir transformation

    The Effect of a Hip Strengthening Program on Mechanics during Running and Single Leg Squatting

    STUDY DESIGN: Block randomized controlled trial. OBJECTIVES: To investigate whether a strengthening and movement education program, targeting the hip abductors and hip external rotators, alters hip mechanics during running and during a single-leg squat. BACKGROUND: Abnormal movement patterns during running and single-leg squatting have been associated with a number of running-related injuries in females. Therapeutic interventions for these aberrant movement patterns typically include hip strengthening. While these strengthening programs have been shown to improve symptoms, it is unknown if the underlying mechanics during functional movements is altered. METHODS: Twenty healthy females with excessive hip adduction during running, as determined by instrumented gait analysis, were recruited. The runners were matched by age and running distance, and randomized to either a training group or a control group. The training group completed a hip strengthening and movement education program 3 times per week for 6 weeks in addition to single-leg squat training with neuromuscular reeducation consisting of mirror and verbal feedback on proper mechanics. The control group did not receive an intervention but maintained the current running distance. Using a handheld dynamometer and standard motion capture procedures, hip strength and running and single-leg squat mechanics were compared before and after the strengthening and movement education program. RESULTS: While hip abductor and external rotation strength increased significantly (P<.005) in the training group, there were no significant changes in hip or knee mechanics during running. However, during the single-leg squat, hip adduction, hip internal rotation, and contralateral pelvic drop all decreased significantly (P = .006, P = .006, and P = .02, respectively). The control group exhibited no changes in hip strength, nor in the single-leg squat or running mechanics at the conclusion of the 6-week study. CONCLUSION: A training program that included hip strengthening and movement training specific to single-leg squatting did not alter running mechanics but did improve single-leg squat mechanics. These results suggest that hip strengthening and movement training, when not specific to running, do not alter abnormal running mechanics. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Therapy, level 2b.     Nanoscale Nucleation and Growth of Non-Stoichiometric V-Shaped InP Defect in Heterogeneous InGaAsP/InP Array

    Nanotechnology is a broad field that involves the manipulation of atoms and molecules. For nanophotonics, defect formation in nanostructured compound semiconductor system is of great technological interest. In this paper, we study the nanoscale nucleation and growth of V-shaped defect in the heterogeneous InGaAsP/InP array. We have observed that the nucleation originated from the phosphorus-deficient disordering that was likely induced by reactive ion etching. During the nucleation, the phosphorus-deficient In1+xP1-x compound was developed at the trench. The triangular nano-precipitates of In1+xP1-x with sizes of 20-30nm were formed. The ratio of In to P in the non-stoichiometric compound was higher in the upper portion of the V-defect, likely due to antisite defect mechanism. During the defect growth process, the phosphorus-deficient nucleation site expanded to form open, inverted pyramid with sidewalls following the crystallographic planes
