    Rotational perturbations in Neveu-Schwarz–Neveu-Schwarz string cosmology

    First order rotational perturbations of the flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker metric are considered in the framework of four dimensional Neveu-Schwarz–Neveu-Schwarz string cosmological models coupled with dilaton and axion fields. For the H field we use the solitonic ansatz, assuming that it is a function of time only. The decay rate of rotation depends mainly upon the dilaton field potential U. The equation for rotation imposes strong limitations upon the functional form of U, restricting the allowed potentials to two: the trivial case U=0 and a generalized exponential type potential. In these two models the metric rotation function can be obtained in an exact analytic form in both Einstein and string frames. In the potential-free case the decay of rotational perturbations is governed by an arbitrary function of time while in the presence of a potential the rotation tends rapidly to zero in both Einstein and string frames.published_or_final_versio

In nuclear pressure vessel systems where A533B steel is widely used as structural material, cyclic thermal expansions often create a low-cycle fatigue condition. The evaluation of fatigue damage therefore is critically important and nondestructive evaluation of fatigue damage is highly desirable from the viewpoint of both safer and longer operation lifetime

    Acceptors in undoped gallium antimonide

    Undoped GaSb materials were studied by temperature dependent Hall (TDH) measurements and photoluminescence (PL). The TDH data reveals four acceptor levels (having ionization energies of 7meV, 32meV, 89meV and 123meV) in the as-grown undoped GaSb samples. The 32meV and the 89meV levels were attributed to the GaSb defect and the VGa-related defect. The Ga Sb defect was found to be the important acceptor responsible for the p-type nature of the present undoped GaSb samples because of its abundance and its low ionization energy. This defect was thermally stable after the 500°C annealing. Similar to the non-irradiated samples, the 777meV and the 800meV PL signals were also observed in the electron irradiated undoped GaSb samples. The decrease of the two peaks' intensities with respect to the electron irradiation dosage reveals the introduction of a non-radiative defect during the electron irradiation process, which competes with the transition responsible for the 777meV and the 800meV PL peaks.published_or_final_versio

    Nature of the acceptor responsible for p-type conduction in liquid encapsulated Czochralski-grown undoped gallium antimonide

    The acceptors in undoped liquid encapsulated Czochralski (LEC)-grown GaSb were investigated using temperature dependent Hall (TDH) and positron lifetime spectroscopy measurements. TDH measurements were performed on nonirradiated and electron irradiated undoped samples. The 34 meV acceptor was found to be the important one responsible for the p-type conduction in nonirradiated and the e--irradiated undoped materials annealed at temperatures up to 500°C. This acceptor was not related to any VGa-related defect detected and was most likely the GaSb antisite.published_or_final_versio

    Multi-response optimization of face milling performance considering tool path strategies in machining of Al-2024

    It is hypothesized that the orientation of tool maneuvering in the milling process defines the quality of machining. In that respect, here, the influence of different path strategies of the tool in face milling is investigated, and subsequently, the best strategy is identified following systematic optimization. The surface roughness, material removal rate and cutting time are considered as key responses, whereas the cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut were considered as inputs (quantitative factors) beside the tool path strategy (qualitative factor) for the material Al 2024 with a torus end mill. The experimental plan, i.e., 27 runs were determined by using the Taguchi design approach. In addition, the analysis of variance is conducted to statistically identify the effects of parameters. The optimal values of process parameters have been evaluated based on Taguchi-grey relational analysis, and the reliability of this analysis has been verified with the confirmation test. It was found that the tool path strategy has a significant influence on the end outcomes of face milling. As such, the surface topography respective to different cutter path strategies and the optimal cutting strategy is discussed in detail

    Sugar alcohols-induced oxidative metabolism in cotton callus culture

    Sugar alcohols (mannitol and sorbitol) may cause oxidative damage in plants if used in higher concentration. Our present experiment was undertaken to study physiological and metabolic responses in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) callus against mannitol and sorbitol higher doses. Both markedly declined mean values of relative fresh weight growth rates with the increase in their concentration intensities. The overall protein and malonaldehyde (MDA) contents increased in the stressed-shocked cells. Also, the mean values of various antioxidants such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and calalase (CAT) quantitatively improved over their respective controls. As a whole, MDA contents were higher in magnitude than that of different antioxidant enzymes. Also values of relative increase in case of POD were higher as compared to SOD showing the ability of cotton callus culture to scavenge H2O2 produced as a result of the activity of SOD. Our results show that both agents caused greater damage to the membranous structure in comparison to less activation of the antioxidants. As a whole, the overall change regarding fresh weight growth rates was less after 14-day stress regime, while the mean values of the antioxidant enzymes activities were lower after the 28-day stress period.
