Comment on "On the Crooks fluctuation theorem and the Jarzynski equality" [J. Chem. Phys. 129, 091101 (2008)]

It has recently been argued that a self-consistency condition involving the Jarzynski equality (JE) and the Crooks fluctuation theorem (CFT) is violated for a simple Brownian process [L. Y. Chen, J. Chem. Phys. 129, 091101 (2008)]. This note adopts the definitions in the original formulation of the JE and CFT and demonstrates the contrary.Comment: 2 page

Anticipations effects in endogeneous probability-migration models

We analyze a probability-migration model based on the threshold of average human capital as in H.-J. Chen [1]. The difficult and interesting case is the one where the probability of migration is dependent on current average human capital (the anticipative case). Here, indeterminacy occurs, and one has to study a lot of subcases. In the present article we deeply study new interesting cases and we give a global answer.Human capital, Education, Migration, Indeterminacy, Economic growth, Threshold human capital, Fixed point, Optimistic and pessimistic mechanisms, Conservative mechanism

A comparative study of several bootstrap-based tests for the volatility in continuous-time diffusion models

    Get PDF
This article develops three bootstrap-based tests for a parametric form of volatil- ity function in continuous-time diffusion models. The three tests are the generalized likelihood ratio test by Fan et al. (Ann Stat 29(1):153–193, 2001), the nonparamet- ric kernel test (LWZ) by Li and Wang (J Econometrics 87(1):145–165, 1998) and Zheng (J Econ 75(2):263–289, 1996) and the nonparametric test (CHS) by Chen et al. (2017). Monte Carlo simulations are performed to evaluate the sizes and power properties of these bootstrap-based tests in finite samples over a range of bandwidth values. We find that the bootstrap-based tests are not influenced by prior restrictions on the functional form of the drift function and that the bootstrap-based CHS test has better power performance than the bootstrap-based GLR and LWZ tests in detect- ing a parametric form of volatility. An empirical study on weekly treasury bill rate is further conducted to demonstrate these bootstrap-based test procedures.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Application of nonlinear deformation algebra to a physical system with P\"oschl-Teller potential

We comment on a recent paper by Chen, Liu, and Ge (J. Phys. A: Math. Gen. 31 (1998) 6473), wherein a nonlinear deformation of su(1,1) involving two deforming functions is realized in the exactly solvable quantum-mechanical problem with P\" oschl-Teller potential, and is used to derive the well-known su(1,1) spectrum-generating algebra of this problem. We show that one of the defining relations of the nonlinear algebra, presented by the authors, is only valid in the limiting case of an infinite square well, and we determine the correct relation in the general case. We also use it to establish the correct link with su(1,1), as well as to provide an algebraic derivation of the eigenfunction normalization constant.Comment: 9 pages, LaTeX, no figure
