A Study of If-Then-Else Structures in End User Programming
Information technology assumed a role of growing importance in organizations during the 1980s. It is no longer used exclusively by small groups of computer specialists; but, rather, office automation and end user computing (EUC) are used by workers at all levels and in all areas of an organization. This study attempts to gain an understanding of factors associated with the use of EUC. The present study is an empirical study, using one end user programming construct (IF-THEN-ELSE). The major findings are: 1) the constraint of human short-term memory has a significant impact on the use of a programming construct, 2) the individual aptitude and personality traits are strongly related to the use of IF-THEN-ELSE constructs, and 3) the format of the construct could also affect the user's performance
Service Fairness and Customer Satisfaction in Internet Bank: From a Trust and Perceived Customer Value Perspective
Recent research has found that fairness plays a key role in customer satisfaction. Fairness in an online context and how it influences customer satisfaction, however, has yet been investigated. This research examines satisfaction from a fairness lens and explores the mediators of fairness to satisfaction in the internet bank context. 131 surveys were analyzed and results show that in internet bank, fairness that includes distributive fairness, procedural fairness and informational fairness is positively related to customer satisfaction. Trust and value are identified as two key mediators of fairness to customer satisfaction

Electronic commerce has gained strong momentum across various industry sectors since the release of the commercial browser of Netscape. However, the sharp meltdown of dot com companies in the past three years inspires us to investigate the causes of failures and the factors of success. We postulated that there is a lack of relationship commitment and trust among the electronic commerce partakers. This paper focuses on the business to consumer segment of the electronic commerce regarding the effects of relationship commitment and trust. After surveying more than 250 online consumers in Taiwan, we found that the commitment and trust factors play vital role in customer retention that support our hypotheses
Dynamically Assessing the Intertwined Influences of ISD Project Risk Factors
This study aims to adopt an approach for assessing the mutual influences of risk factors on information system development project transferring from initialization to the control phases. Given that risks evolve dynamically, the variations of the degrees of risk influences throughout the development process of information system project must be analyzed so that effective risk management strategies can be devised in a cost-effective way at the right stage. Therefore, our study applies Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory to quantitatively assess the interdependencies among the risk factors for each project development phase. An application conducted in a private, medium-scale university in Taiwan is demonstrated. The results suggest the directions for possible improvements of risk management during university information system development process

Software project process management maturity and project performance: An examination of Taiwan\u27s software companies
Researchers and practitioners argue that an inadequate software development process is one critical factor accounting for high project failure rates. a result, the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) was introduced by the Software Engineering Institute as a guideline for advancing project maturity and improving the odds of project success. To investigate the effectiveness of applying the principles of the CMM, a survey was conducted of 196 Information System managers in Taiwan. The results indicate that a more mature software development process reduces the extent of certain risks experienced during the project development and enables better project performance. Managerial implications regarding the CMM are described
IT Investment Strategy And IT Infrastructure Services
Organizations invest in information technology infrastructure for a variety of reasons. One dimension describing the investment strategy is the intention of achieving cost savings versus the intention to remain flexible and responsive to the marketplace. Of interest is the relationship between this cost-flexibility dimension and the extent to which services are provided as part of the firmwide infrastructure. A survey of CIOs reveals that organizations emphasizing cost tend to have less investment in firmwide infrastructure across a breadth of service types than those promoting flexibility. This implies that organizations pursuing a flexible strategy will provide a broader base of services that are common to all groups within the organization. Firms using a cost-based strategy tend to provide less infrastructure leaving many of the services incomplete or up to individual business units within the organization
Exploring impacts of project leaders’ written expressions in virtual and fluid projects: The role of personality and emotion
This paper aims to tackle challenges of managing projects in highly virtual and fluid contexts, characterized by diversity, dispersion, digital dependence, unstable membership, and dynamic coordination and configuration. We investigate project leaders’ personality and emotion expressed in written expression and examine their impacts on collaboration outcomes. IBM Watson Personality Insights and Tone Analyzer were adopted to assess the leader’s personality and emotion. A computation model to classify collaboration patterns into taskwork-related and teamwork-related communication is under development. We report preliminary findings based on 417 weekly meetings between October 2018 and February 2020 in 8 open-source software teams around WordPress. The research results have the potential to inform researchers and practitioners about what personality profiles and emotions should be considered to foster collaboration in virtual and fluid projects. It is possible to extend the boundary condition of the traits school of leadership for project management in the new context
