Recurrent stress cardiomyopathy with different electrocardiographic abnormalities on each presentation in a depressed post-menopausal woman

AbstractStress cardiomyopathy (SCM) is a syndrome of transient cardiac abnormalities precipitated by intense emotional or physical stress. Differentiating SCM from acute myocardial infarction is often difficult but vital to avoid subjecting SCM patients to unnecessary reperfusion therapy and invasive coronary angiography. For accurate diagnosis, it is important that physicians be familiar with the current diagnostic criteria, most susceptible populations, and typical triggers for SCM. SCM occurs almost exclusively in post-menopausal women, a group with a high frequency of psychiatric disorders. Thus, in addition to typical trigger events, comorbid psychiatric disorders may contribute to SCM onset. We report a rare case of recurrent SCM with distinct electrocardiographic abnormalities during each presentation in a post-menopausal woman with depression.<Learning objective: Recurrence of SCM was thought to be infrequent before but it has been increasingly reported recently. Although the underlying mechanism remains unclear, comorbid psychiatric disorders may contribute significantly to the pathogenesis of SCM and its influence may have been underestimated. Routine mental health screening should be done accompanying therapy for SCM.

Abstract The artistic installation Being in weightlessness studied in this article is born from the Labex Art & H2H Infinite Body project which is gathering multiple artistic representations of bodies in suspension in the circus scenic space. This installation is both a research-creation process and a result of experimentations produced around the project. It led us to question diegetic characteristics of a zero-gravity virtual world and how interactions with fluids and volatile materials could improve feelings of incarnation in this world. Being in weightlessness invited the public to experience weightless feelings from the aerial viewpoint of the Circassians during the Infinite Body performance. By exploring an environment without gravity, the spectator enters a state of enaction while his gestures are gradually embodied in his virtual body. Comfortably suspended in a spherical swing, he puts himself in an almost fetal position as if it was supported by an invisible hand, like an embryo in its amniotic sac

Preparation for an International Sport Event: The Promotional Strategies of 2009 Kaohsiung World Games

This study presented administrative and marketing-related information on Kaohsiung City’s preparation for the 2009 World Games. The presented information was allocated through an extensive literature review on secondary sources, personal interviews, and observations from fall of 2008 to summer of 2009. Promotional strategies and activities, projected financial and sales data, reports on constructions, and issues and challenges related to the Games were further analyzed. The study further discussed the “not-for-profit” approach that was practiced by many East Asian Countries to gain international recognition and promote patriotism while hosting a major sport event

The purpose of this study was to investigate the different of dominant arm shoulder rotation torque between the baseball pitchers, infielders, and ouffielders. Participants were 27 first-level collegiate baseball players, including 9 pitchers, 10 infielders, 8 outfielders. A Biodex lsokinetic Dynamometer was used for estimation of shoulder muscle strength. This system's test velocity was set at 60 "Is and the range of motion of dominant arm shoulder in flexion, abduction, 90' of abduction with external rotation, and 90" abduction with internal rotation. The results indicated that there was no significant different in internal rotation peak torque and ERllR ratio between pitchers, infielders, and outfielders. There was significantly different in external rotation peak torque. The infielders and ouffielders possess greater external rotation peak torque than pitchers

    Otocephaly

Otocephaly is a rare lethal syndrome of microstomia, aglossia, agnathia, and synotia. This male infant was born to a 19-year-old, gravida 1, para 0, woman who received routine prenatal check-up. Polyhydramnios, low-lying ears, and proboscis were noted by sonography at 29 weeks of gestation. Amniocentesis showed a normal karyotype of 46, XY. Premature rupture of membranes and preterm labor were noted at 32 weeks of gestation. A male infant was delivered preterm and died shortly after birth. The infant showed midline proboscis and absence of mandible. The simple, soft ears were extremely low-set and were near the midline of the neck. Otocephaly is regarded as the most severe form of first arch anomalies. Prenatal diagnosis should be dependent on ultrasound analysis. In the face of polyhydramnios, otocephaly is one of the possible fetal anomalies

Graphite Equivalent Evaluation of Anthracite-Associated Graphite by Raman Spectroscopy

    Get PDF
Anthracite-associated graphite is an important graphite resource with a wide range of applications besides being used as a fuel. This paper introduces a method for evaluating the graphite equivalent evaluation of anthracite-associated graphite. A series of graphite-anthracite standard samples with known graphite content were prepared, and their Raman spectra were obtained using a Raman spectrometer. By employing peak-fitting analysis to decipher the peak spectrum information of the D peak and G peak, trends in the peak position, peak intensity ratio, half-width, and peak area of the D peak and G peak in standard samples with different graphite contents were obtained. Subsequently, a standard curve and fitting equation were established using the peak area data. The goodness of fit for the equation (R2 ) was 0.9984. Then the equation was used to evaluate 100 natural anthracite-associated graphite samples with unknown graphite content, obtaining a corresponding graphite equivalent evaluation

Magnetism and Charge Dynamics in Iron Pnictides

In a wide variety of materials, such as copper oxides, heavy fermions, organic salts, and the recently discovered iron pnictides, superconductivity is found in close proximity to a magnetically ordered state. The character of the proximate magnetic phase is thus believed to be crucial for understanding the differences between the various families of unconventional superconductors and the mechanism of superconductivity. Unlike the AFM order in cuprates, the nature of the magnetism and of the underlying electronic state in the iron pnictide superconductors is not well understood. Neither density functional theory nor models based on atomic physics and superexchange, account for the small size of the magnetic moment. Many low energy probes such as transport, STM and ARPES measured strong anisotropy of the electronic states akin to the nematic order in a liquid crystal, but there is no consensus on its physical origin, and a three dimensional picture of electronic states and its relations to the optical conductivity in the magnetic state is lacking. Using a first principles approach, we obtained the experimentally observed magnetic moment, optical conductivity, and the anisotropy of the electronic states. The theory connects ARPES, which measures one particle electronic states, optical spectroscopy, probing the particle hole excitations of the solid and neutron scattering which measures the magnetic moment. We predict a manifestation of the anisotropy in the optical conductivity, and we show that the magnetic phase arises from the paramagnetic phase by a large gain of the Hund's rule coupling energy and a smaller loss of kinetic energy, indicating that iron pnictides represent a new class of compounds where the nature of magnetism is intermediate between the spin density wave of almost independent particles, and the antiferromagnetic state of local moments.Comment: 4+ pages with additional one-page supplementary materia
