SPARSE DIRECT SOLUTION METHODS FOR CAPACITIVE EXTRACTION PROBLEMS ON CLOSELY-SPACED GEOMETRIES WITH HIGH ASPECT RATIOS

    Get PDF
The method of moment (MoM) [1] is a widely used method in electromagnetics to solve static and dynamic electromagnetic problems on varying geometries. However, in closely spaced geometries coupled with large aspect ratios, e.g. a large parallel plate capacitor with very small separation gap, the problem exhibits several challenges. Firstly, the close proximity of the field and source elements presents problems with convergence in numerical evaluations of the interactions between them. Secondly, the aspect ratio of the geometry gives an approximation whereby to far field points, the source contributions from locations that are far apart appear to cancel each other. This leads to high condition numbers in the system matrix. This thesis explores the potential solution to these problems as well as the application of modular fast and direct (MFD) [2] solver to expedite the solution of such problems

    The financial clouds review

    No full text
This paper demonstrates financial enterprise portability, which involves moving entire application services from desktops to clouds and between different clouds, and is transparent to users who can work as if on their familiar systems. To demonstrate portability, reviews for several financial models are studied, where Monte Carlo Methods (MCM) and Black Scholes Model (BSM) are chosen. A special technique in MCM, Least Square Methods, is used to reduce errors while performing accurate calculations. The coding algorithm for MCM written in MATLAB is explained. Simulations for MCM are performed on different types of Clouds. Benchmark and experimental results are presented for discussion. 3D Black Scholes are used to explain the impacts and added values for risk analysis, and three different scenarios with 3D risk analysis are explained. We also discuss implications for banking and ways to track risks in order to improve accuracy. We have used a conceptual Cloud platform to explain our contributions in Financial Software as a Service (FSaaS) and the IBM Fined Grained Security Framework. Our objective is to demonstrate portability, speed, accuracy and reliability of applications in the clouds, while demonstrating portability for FSaaS and the Cloud Computing Business Framework (CCBF), which is proposed to deal with cloud portability

Ultra-Scalable Spectral Clustering and Ensemble Clustering

This paper focuses on scalability and robustness of spectral clustering for extremely large-scale datasets with limited resources. Two novel algorithms are proposed, namely, ultra-scalable spectral clustering (U-SPEC) and ultra-scalable ensemble clustering (U-SENC). In U-SPEC, a hybrid representative selection strategy and a fast approximation method for K-nearest representatives are proposed for the construction of a sparse affinity sub-matrix. By interpreting the sparse sub-matrix as a bipartite graph, the transfer cut is then utilized to efficiently partition the graph and obtain the clustering result. In U-SENC, multiple U-SPEC clusterers are further integrated into an ensemble clustering framework to enhance the robustness of U-SPEC while maintaining high efficiency. Based on the ensemble generation via multiple U-SEPC's, a new bipartite graph is constructed between objects and base clusters and then efficiently partitioned to achieve the consensus clustering result. It is noteworthy that both U-SPEC and U-SENC have nearly linear time and space complexity, and are capable of robustly and efficiently partitioning ten-million-level nonlinearly-separable datasets on a PC with 64GB memory. Experiments on various large-scale datasets have demonstrated the scalability and robustness of our algorithms. Pairwise disjoint 3-GDDs can be used to construct some optimal constant-weight codes. We study the existence of a pair of disjoint 3-GDDs of type gtu1g^t u^1 and establish that its necessary conditions are also sufficient.Comment: Designs, Codes and Cryptography (to appear

Framing the diplomatic ties between Kazakhstan and Malaysia

This study aims at investigating the prevalence news frames in the reporting of Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s official visit to Malaysia in April 2012. Both quantitative and qualitative content analysis are employed to explore the way Kazakhstani and Malaysian newspapers cover the event. In terms of quantitative analysis, the focus is on the five generic frames, namely, attribution of responsibility, human interest, conflict, morality and economic consequences. While the qualitative analysis is conducted to examine how’s the issue being defined, what are the possible causes of the problem identified, moral judgement made and the supply of remedies to the problem. A total of 134 units of analysis from two major Malaysian English newspapers and two major Kazakhstani newspapers, surrounding the period of the President’s two-day visit, were collected and content analysed. The results reveal that, although the occasion was mainly about boosting economic ties between Kazakhstan and Malaysia, responsibility frame was most highlighted, while economic consequences frame was placed in the last spot. Among the four newspapers, both The Star and New Strait Times were found to be significantly more interested than Sovereign Kazakhstan and Kazakhstani Truth in using the economic consequences frame. However, results of qualitative content analysis indicate that these four newspapers were sharing the same mind to portray their respective government as capable and determined in nation development

AbstractLet Tn+ be the set of all trees of order n with perfect matchings. In this paper, we prove that for any tree T∈Tn+, its kth largest Laplacian eigenvalue μk(T) satisfies μk(T)=2 when n=2k, and μk(T)⩽⌈n2k⌉+2+(⌈n2k⌉)2+42 when n≠2k. Moreover, this upper bound is sharp when n=0(mod2k)
