User Perspective on Library Services at Jaypee University of Information Technology, Himachal Pradesh: an internal survey

Change has brought various dimensions in all aspects of human life. The availability of information at finger tips has enforced the libraries to get changed radically. Today, modes of information generation, its dissemination and management are different which we had in the last decade. Similarly, information needs of library users have also changed extensively and libraries are trying to keep pace with daunting changes taking place day by day. The Learning Resource Centre of Jaypee University of Information Technology has been front runner to adopt new technology to serve its users proactively. In this chapter, a survey was conducted to know the extent of satisfaction level of library users with respect to library services, infrastructure and on available information resources. Bis(1-naphthyl) telluride

Yellow crystals of the title compound, C20H14Te, were obtained serendipitously in an attempt to recrystallize the reduction product of (1-C10H7)[(CH(Me)COC6H5)]TeCl2 from dichloromethane. The molecule exhibits an angular geometry with almost equal Te-Caryl bonds and a C-Te-C angle close to values observed for other diaryl tellurides. One of the aromatic ring systems lies in the C-Te-C plane and the other is oriented at 76.81 (6)&deg;, giving an almost T-shaped conformation that is compatible with the steric demand of 1-naphthyl ligands.<br /

Response of Strawberry plant (Fragaria ananassa Duch.) to inoculation with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and Trichoderma viride

The present paper represents the positive role of Arbuscular Mycorrhizal (AM) fungi as biofertilizers in strawberry. Experiments were carried out to assess the effectiveness of Trichoderma viride and AM fungi (Glomus mosseae and Acaulospora laevis) alone or in combination, on the growth and biomass production of strawberry. After 120 days, dual inoculation of A. laevis + T. viride showed maximum increase in plant height (30.5±0.3), fresh shoot weight (10.16±0.20), dry shoot weight (2.82±0.02), fresh root weight (6.70±0.10), total chlorophyll (0.841±0.05) and phosphorus content in root (1.13±0.02) as compared to control. However root colonization and AM spore number were maximum in G. mosseae + A. lavies (90.76±1.32) and in G. mosseae (211.16±2.56) respectively as compared to uninoculated plants. CONSERVATIVE MANAGEMENT OF ACUTE LUMBAR DISC HERNIATION WITH ASSOCIATED RADICULOPATHY: A STUDY

Objective: Acute disc herniation (DH) is a common cause of low back pain (LBP). It ranks fifth in the category of diseases in terms of cost of hospital care. It has higher indirect costs due to absenteeism from work and disability than any other disease. The present study was performed to assess the clinical outcomes of non-surgically treated LBP patients after 6 months of follow-up. Methods: The present study was prospective study which was performed on 450 lumbar radicular patients visiting the neurosurgery outpatient department having clinical signs and symptoms of acute lumbar DH of less than 3 month duration. Their diagnosis was confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging. The patients were treated conservatively during 6 months. Pain and disability were assessed by visual analog scale (VAS) and Oswestry disability questionnaire, respectively. Results: About 135 (30%) female and 315 (70%) male participated in the study. During the follow-up period, 27 (06%) patients (21 male and 6 female) showed poor response to conservative treatment and motor weakness and underwent surgical intervention. A significant improvement in the VAS Score was seen after 6 months of conservative treatment than initial evaluation of patients (3.12±1.84, 7.1±1.43, p=0.00). Furthermore, significant improvement in disability score of patients was seen in follow-up period (25.82±16.92, 53.66±17.66; p=0.00). Conclusion: Results of our study showed that conservative treatment in patients of acute lumbar DH have significant improvement in pain relief and disability without any notable side effect

Skin pigmentation, a window to diagnose Alkaptonuria: a very rare entity

Alkaptonuria (AKU) or endogenous ochronosis is a very rare inborn error of tyrosine metabolism inherited by autosomal recessive mode. There is complete absence of homogentisic acid oxidase enzyme which results in accumulation of homogentisic acid in cartilaginous connective tissue thus produces ochronotic clinical manifestations. Here we reported a 36 year old woman with bluish pigmentation of pinnae, index fingers (lateral aspect), nails, teeth and sclera. Detailed clinical and investigative workup was done to diagnose patient. Skin biopsy showed changes of ochronosis and urine examination revealed detectable level of homogentisic acid. Classical ocular findings, ochronosis on clinical and HPE and positive urinary tests for homogentisic acid confirmed the diagnosis of alkaptonuria. The highlight of our case is that an asymptomatic patient was detected early by ochronosis prior to development of musculoskeletal or cardiac complications
