Introduction

International audienceCommitment oscillates between denunciation and proposal. The article examines the main features of this dynamic in the work of three major thinkers in memory, postcolonial and gender studies : Aleida Assmann, Homi K. Bhabha, Judith Butler. It questions the subversive vocation of postcolonial and gender studies and relates it to a more « institutionalized » memory field, before investigating the constructive criticism that connects the three authors, beyond their differences

International audienceThe trilogy Les Falsificateurs (2007), Les Ăclaireurs (2009) and Les Producteurs (2015) earned Antoine Bello a quick success. Although contemporary readers admire his sudden popularity, the figures of the lie that populate his trilogy are not new. The âConsortium for the Falsification of the Realâ, whose three novels display the multiple concealments, is reminiscent of an older literary constellation: the secret association of conspirators with transnational aims. As such, we propose to read the trilogy as the contemporary variation of a transsecular imagination. A historical perspective on the novels reveals that the characters of the falsifiers belong to a conspiracy palimpsest. But these professional liars introduce also a rather original inspiration in French literature: a rationalization of the imagination of the mega-conspiracy. The article describes and analyzes briefly the modalities, stakes and limits of this imagination.
International audienceIn July 2004, under the aegis of UNESCO, the bark La Boudeuse set off to visit eight societies located between South America, the Pacific Ocean, Asia and Africa. The project led to the creation of a new series by the Editions du Seuil: âPeuples de lâeauâ, where the works of the writers that participated in the journey were published, i.e. Raga by J. M. G. Le ClĂ©zio and La Terre magnĂ©tique by Ădouard Glissant. The project and the books may be considered as symbols of an international revival of intellectual and literary commitment, in particular for the critic of the degradation of world environment. The paper relates these texts to the two rhetorical-poetical poles characterizing the âecocritical commitmentâ that can be observed in contemporary literatures in a European language. Thus, it is possible to observe two complementary dynamics: one denouncing the past and present devastation of the Pentecost island and of the Easter island, the other proposing to associate the representation of these two islands to symbols of survival

"Conspiracy Narratives and Cosmopolitanism: Friends or Warring Brothers?"
Trad. Didier CosteInternational audienceEverything seems to oppose the openness of cosmopolitanism to the closure of the imaginary of conspiracy. However, the historicized and comparative study of conspiracy narratives (that is, narratives focused on an unproven secret collective project trying to influence political and social life) shows that they configure various, sometimes quite cosmopolitan, representations of the world. Historical developments of conspiratorial representations (whether fictional or pseudo-factual) and perceptions of globality share various features, as I show first by presenting some major stages in their evolution. I then insist on the opposition, which emerges from the conspiracy narratives taken as a whole, between a radical rejection and a clear valorization of transterritorial and transcultural dynamics. Finally, I consider some more nuanced perceptions of globality elaborated in conspiracy fictional narratives. In all these cases, I focus on a specific context: the Atlantic area in European languages. The study of intercontinental circulations between Europe, the Americas and Africa is not only interesting to address the phenomena of globalization on an intermediate scale. As far as the contemporary era is concerned, these circulations also condition the transnational development of âconspiracy theoriesâ as well as fictional narratives in European languages centered on conspiraciesâhere called for short âconspiracy fiction(s).â This article thus emphasizes the little known fact that conspiracy fiction constitutes a type of narrative in which cosmopolitan visions of the world are elaborated, the historical depth and topicality of which cannot be denied
