    Uncertainties in nuclear transition matrix elements for neutrinoless ββ\beta \beta decay II: the heavy Majorana neutrino mass mechanism

    Employing four different parametrization of the pairing plus multipolar type of effective two-body interaction and three different parametrizations of Jastrow-type of short range correlations, the uncertainties in the nuclear transition matrix elements MN(0ν)M_{N}^{(0\nu)} due to the exchange of heavy Majorana neutrino for the 0+→0+0^{+}\rightarrow 0^{+} transition of neutrinoless double beta decay of 94^{94}Zr, 96^{96}Zr, 98^{98}Mo, 100^{100}Mo, 104^{104}Ru, 110^{110}Pd, 128,130^{128,130}Te and 150^{150}Nd isotopes in the PHFB model are estimated to be around 25%. Excluding the nuclear transition matrix elements calculated with Miller-Spenser parametrization of Jastrow short range correlations, the uncertainties are found to be 10%-15% smaller

    We define a generalized rate equation for an observable in quantum mechanics, that involves a parameter q and whose limit q→1q\to 1 gives the standard Heisenberg equation. The generalized rate equation is used to study dynamics of current biased Josephson junction. It is observed that this toy model incorporates diffraction like effects in the critical current.     Growth and yield of determinate and indeterminate cowpeas in dryland agriculture

    Cowpea is an important food legume crop of arid and semi-arid regions of the tropics. In such climates whether a determinate or indeterminate type of growth habit would be more useful is not clear. In the present study a determinate and indeterminate cultivar of cowpea were grown at two population densities under rainfed conditions for 2 years. Grain yield was higher in the indeterminate variety for both years. At higher density more dry matter was produced but it had no effect on grain yield. Nitrogen analysis showed that it moved from leaves to developing pods. However, a large amount of nitrogen was still left in vegetative parts in contrast to cereals. Pod development was completed in 19 days and the rate of dry-matter accumulation during the peak period of growth was as high as 120 mg/day per fruit. It was difficult for the plant to cope with this high demand for photosynthates. It is suggested that more pods can develop on a plant provided the growth rate of individual pods is slower and extended to a longer period

    Nuclear deformation and neutrinoless double-β\beta decay of 94,96^{94,96}Zr, 98,100^{98,100}Mo, 104^{104}Ru, 110^{110}Pd, 128,130^{128,130}Te and 150^{150}Nd nuclei in mass mechanism

    The (β−β−)0ν(\beta ^{-}\beta ^{-})_{0\nu} decay of 94,96^{94,96}Zr, 98,100^{98,100}Mo, 104^{104}Ru, 110^{110}Pd, 128,130^{128,130}Te and 150^{150}Nd isotopes for the 0+→0+0^{+}\to 0^{+} transition is studied in the Projected Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov framework. In our earlier work, the reliability of HFB intrinsic wave functions participating in the β−β−\beta ^{-}\beta ^{-} decay of the above mentioned nuclei has been established by obtaining an overall agreement between the theoretically calculated spectroscopic properties, namely yrast spectra, reduced B(E2B(E2:0+→2+)0^{+}\to 2^{+}) transition probabilities, quadrupole moments Q(2+)Q(2^{+}), gyromagnetic factors g(2+)g(2^{+}) as well as half-lives T1/22νT_{1/2}^{2\nu} for the 0+→0+0^{+}\to 0^{+} transition and the available experimental data. In the present work, we study the (β−β−)0ν(\beta ^{-}\beta ^{-})_{0\nu} decay for the 0+→0+0^{+}\to 0^{+} transition in the mass mechanism and extract limits on effective mass of light as well as heavy neutrinos from the observed half-lives T1/20ν(0+→0+)T_{1/2}^{0\nu}(0^{+}\to 0^{+}) using nuclear transition matrix elements calculated with the same set of wave functions. Further, the effect of deformation on the nuclear transition matrix elements required to study the (β−β−)0ν(\beta ^{-}\beta ^{-})_{0\nu} decay in the mass mechanism is investigated. It is noticed that the deformation effect on nuclear transition matrix elements is of approximately same magnitude in (β−β−)2ν(\beta ^{-}\beta ^{-})_{2\nu} and (β−β−)0ν(\beta ^{-}\beta ^{-})_{0\nu} decay.Comment: 15 pages, 1 figur

    Implementation of High Efficiency, High Lifetime and Low Cost Converter for an Automatic Photovoltaic Water Pumping Station

    A novel idea of photovoltaic (PV) energy based converter for water pumping system without the USAge of fuel cells or batteries. In proposed system, the design of a three phase induction motor drive is directly supplied by using photovoltaic system energy. Presence of a three phase induction motor has better performance with optimized efficiency compared to the commercial water pumping system of DC motor. The developed resonant of Two Inductor Boost Converter (TIBC) and voltage quadruple with three phase Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) are based on the current fed multi resonant converter. Low input current ripple and high voltage gain are the features of TIBC. So the classical topology used to improve the system with a constant duty cycle control and a non dissipative snubber circuit along with a hysteresis controller to improve its efficiency. Due to the non existence of electrolytic capacitors the system is required to have a high lifetime and total system cost is low. As a result, in isolated locations the system has an optimistic solution and it provide water to poor societies

    A comparison of physiological and yield characters in old and new wheat varieties

    The Indian subcontinent has witnessed a spectacular improvement in yield of wheat during the past decade (Rao, 1978). This is reflected in the improvement of the average national yields as well as of those regions where wheat is grown as an irrigated crop (Sinha & Aggarwal, 1981). However, after the release of the double dwarf variety Kalyansona, only marginal improvement in yield has occurred in recent years. Despite this, the semi-dwarf character continues to be considered a major factor for improvement of wheat. Asana & Chattopadhyay (1970), Konar & Asana (1975), and Wattal & Asana (1976) observed no significant difference in yield between tall and semi-dwarf (medium tall) varieties in pot culture experiments where lodging was prevented and competition was partly reduced. They ascribed prevention from lodging and improvement in the ratio of grain to total above-ground dry matter as major advantages in the modern varieties. Somewhat similar conclusions have recently been drawn by Austin et al. (1980). However, a detailed comparison of various physiological and biochemical characters lias not been made to determine whether any advance has occurred in basic processes such as photosynthesis and nitrogen assimilation.
