Workforce Data Quality Initiative
Texasâ Workforce Data Quality Initiative aimed to develop a comprehensive system for analysis of workforce and education participation and outcomes. In partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission, the Ray Marshall Center (RMC) is working to build, test, improve, and expand data linkages across linked individual-level, longitudinal education, and workforce records. Through this project, researchers would be able to identify and assess postsecondary pathways and transitions between education, employment, and other outcomes for students exiting the public school system as well as analyze the performance of the human capital development system in Texas, spanning secondary education through postsecondary education, and workforce training and employment.This report seeks to examine and analyze the postsecondary labor market outcomes of Texas high school graduates from the classes of 2008 and 2009. One advantage of looking at these two particular cohorts stems from differences in when they encountered the Great Recession: the class of 2008 graduated prior to the start of the recession in Texas and the class of 2009 graduated immediately after the start of the recession. It is likely that class of 2009 graduates factored in the regional changes in availability of employment as they weighed whether or not to apply for and enroll in college.Texas Workforce CommissionRay Marshall Center for the Study of Human Resource
Treatment of patients with chronic thrombo embolic pulmonary hypertension: focus on riociguat
Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a disease of the pulmonary vascular bed that is characterized by elevations in the mean pulmonary artery pressure in the setting of perfusion defects on ventilation-perfusion scan, and subsequently confirmed by pulmonary angiography. CTEPH, or World Health Organization (WHO) group 4 pulmonary hypertension, is a result of unresolved thromboembolic obstruction in the pulmonary arteries. Pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) is the treatment of choice for CTEPH as it is a potentially curative therapy. However, up to one-third of patients are not candidates for the surgery, either due to distal and inaccessible nature of the lesions or comorbid conditions. Due to remodeling that occurs in nonobstructed pulmonary vessels, a portion of patients who have undergone PEA have residual CTEPH after the procedure, attributable to high shear stress prior to PEA. This phenomenon has led to the understanding of a so-called two-compartment model of CTEPH, opening the door to pharmacologic treatment strategies. In 2013, riociguat, a soluble guanylate cyclase stimulator, was approved in the US and Europe for the treatment of inoperable or persistent/recurrent CTEPH. High-Resolution Mid-Infrared Morphology of Cygnus A
We present subarcsecond resolution mid-infrared images at 10.8 and 18.2
microns of Cygnus A. These images were obtained with the University of Florida
mid-IR camera/spectrometer OSCIR at the Keck II 10-m telescope. Our data show
extended mid-IR emission primarily to the east of the nucleus with a possible
western extension detected after image deconvolution. This extended emission is
closely aligned with the bi-conical structure observed at optical and near-IR
wavelengths by the HST. This emission is consistent with dust heated from the
central engine of Cygnus A. We also marginally detect large-scale low level
emission extending > 1.5 kpc from the nucleus which may be caused by in-situ
star formation, line emission, and/or PAH contamination within the bandpass of

Paying More for the American Dream III: Promoting Responsible Lending to Lower-Income Communities and Communities of Color
This report analyzes 2007 Home Mortgage Disclosure Act data and finds that, in low- and moderate-income communities, depositories with CRA obligations originate a far smaller share of higher-cost loans than lenders not subject to CRA. It also finds that lenders covered by CRA are much less likely to make higher-cost loans in communities of color than lenders not covered by CRA
Far-Ultraviolet Emission from Elliptical Galaxies at z=0.33
We present far-ultraviolet (far-UV) images of the rich galaxy cluster
ZwCl1358.1+6245, taken with the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph on board
the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). When combined with archival HST observations,
our data provide a measurement of the UV-to-optical flux ratio in 8 early-type
galaxies at z=0.33. Because the UV flux originates in a population of evolved,
hot, horizontal branch (HB) stars, this ratio is potentially one of the most
sensitive tracers of age in old populations -- it is expected to fade rapidly
with lookback time. We find that the UV emission in these galaxies, at a
lookback time of 3.9 Gyr, is significantly weaker than it is in the current
epoch, yet similar to that in galaxies at a lookback time of 5.6 Gyr. Taken at
face value, these measurements imply different formation epochs for the massive
ellipticals in these clusters, but an alternative explanation is a "floor" in
the UV emission due to a dispersion in the parameters that govern HB

Multimodal Imaging Evidence for Axonal and Myelin Deterioration in Amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment
White matter (WM) microstructural declines have been demonstrated in Alzheimer\u27s disease and amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI). However, the pattern of WM microstructural changes in aMCI after controlling for WM atrophy is unknown. Here, we address this issue through joint consideration of aMCI alterations in fractional anisotropy, mean diffusivity, axial diffusivity, and radial diffusivity, as well as macrostructural volume in WM and gray matter compartments. Participants were 18 individuals with aMCI and 24 healthy seniors. Voxelwise analyses of diffusion tensor imaging data was carried out using tract-based spatial statistics (TBSS) and voxelwise analyses of high-resolution structural data was conducted using voxel based morphometry. After controlling for WM atrophy, the main pattern of TBSS findings indicated reduced fractional anisotropy with only small alterations in mean diffusivity/radial diffusivity/axial diffusivity. These WM microstructural declines bordered and/or were connected to gray matter structures showing volumetric declines. However, none of the potential relationships between WM integrity and volume in connected gray matter structures was significant, and adding fractional anisotropy information improved the classificatory accuracy of aMCI compared to the use of hippocampal atrophy alone. These results suggest that WM microstructural declines provide unique information not captured by atrophy measures that may aid the magnetic resonance imaging contribution to aMCI detection
