    Towards a B2B E-Commerce Evaluation Management Model to Assess Organizational Drivers in Hospitals

    Effective utilization of business-to-business (B2B) electronic commerce (e-commerce) in hospitals may lead to many benefits such as increased accessibility to healthcare providers, improved process efficiency, enhanced quality of healthcare services, increased responses to changes, decreased scheduling conflicts, and reduction in administrative costs. However, many hospitals have found that they have not yet fully reaped the expected benefits from their B2B e-commerce investments. Despite this, there has not been much discussion in the literature with respect to the relationship between the organizational drivers on B2B e-commerce benefits for hospitals. Hence, a mixed-method of case study and survey was conducted to examine the relationships between B2B e-commerce benefits, IT evaluation resources allocation, IT investment evaluation methodologies, IT maturity, and user information requirements determination process. A B2B e-commerce evaluation management model was developed to test these relationships. The results provided empirical evidence in support of our proposed model and revealed that hospitals’ IT evaluation resources allocation practices mediated the relationship of IT investment evaluation methodologies, IT maturity, and user information requirements determination process with B2B e-commerce benefits. The results also showed that the level of IT maturity had a significant impact on the adoption of IT investment evaluation methodologies

    Association of Alzhemier\u27s Disease With Hepatitis C Among Patients With Bipolar Disorder

    Associations of hepatitis C virus infection with Alzheimer’s disease have not been studied among higher risk, bipolar disorder patients. This population-based case-control study investigated the risks of hepatitis C virus infection among Alzheimer’s disease patients with bipolar disorder in the years preceding their Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis. We used 2000–2013 data from the Longitudinal Health Insurance Database in Taiwan. Among patients with bipolar disorder, 73 were diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease (cases), who were compared with 365 individuals with bipolar disorder but without Alzheimer’s disease (randomly selected controls matched on sex, age, and index year with cases). Prior claims (before the diagnosis year/index year for controls) were screened for a diagnosis of hepatitis C virus infection. Conditional logistic regression models were used for analysis. We found that 23 (31.51%) and 60 (16.44%) patients with bipolar disease were identified with a hepatitis C diagnosis among those with and without Alzheimer’s disease, respectively. Compared to controls, patients with Alzheimer’s disease showed 2.31-fold (95% confidence interval = 1.28–4.16) increased risk of hepatitis C infections adjusted for demographics and socio-economic status. Findings suggest an association of Alzheimer’s disease with a preceding diagnosis of hepatitis C infection among patients with bipolar disorder. Findings may suggest a need for increased awareness of and appropriate surveillance for Alzheimer’s disease in patients with bipolar disorder diagnosed with hepatitis C infection

    The Association Between Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease and Subsequent Rheumatoid Arthritis Occurrence: A Nested Case–Control Study From Taiwan

    Objective Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) is a common comorbidity among patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). While GORD has been attributed to the antirheumatic medications, no studies of human cohorts have investigated a link between GORD and RA. This study investigates whether GORD is associated with a subsequent RA diagnosis over a 5-year follow-up using a population-based dataset. Setting Taiwan Participants We used data from the Taiwan Longitudinal Health Insurance Database. The study group consisted of 13 645 patients with an ambulatory claim showing a GORD diagnosis. We used propensity score matching to select 13 645 comparison patients (one per study patient with GORD). Intervention We tracked each patient’s claims over a 5-year period to identify those who subsequently received a diagnosis of RA. Cox proportional hazard (PH) regression modelling was used for analysis. Results Over 5-year follow-up, RA incidence rate per 1000 person-years was 2.81 among patients with GORD and 0.84 among the comparison group. Cox PH modelling showed that GORD was independently associated with a 2.84-fold increased risk of RA (95% CI 2.09 to 3.85) over 5-year follow-up, after adjusting for the number of ambulatory care visits within the year following the index date (to mitigate surveillance bias). Conclusions We observed that GORD might associate with subsequent RA occurrence. Because current treatment guidelines for RA emphasise early diagnosis and prompt treatment, the observed association between GORD and RA may help acquaint clinicians to patients with GORD with higher RA risk and facilitate early diagnosis and treatment.     Tidal Effects on Circulation in and near the East China Sea

    We incorporate tidal currents into a previously validated, three-dimensional, subtidal circulation model to assess tidal effects on the circulation in and around the East China Sea. Of particular interest is the tide-enhanced Changjiang plume dispersal and circulation in the southern East China Sea. The modeling results show that without tides, the Changjiang plume in summer presents itself as a stagnant, expansive pool in regions bordering the northern East China Sea and Yellow Sea, too far north and too accumulating relative to observations. The winter plume dispersal pushed by the north-northeast monsoon follows the China coastline southeastward as a coastal current that matches more closely with observations with or without tides. Incorporating the effect of tides brings the model closer to observation, especially in summer. During summer the Taiwan Warm Current shifts to lower latitudes, enhances upwelling off southeast China and induces a southward tidal residual coastal flow off southeast China. Tides also induce the observed seaward detachment of the summer plume. In winter, the prevailing north-northeast monsoon suppresses the Taiwan Warm Current to the minimum. However, if the winter monsoon is weakened for a few weeks, the Taiwan Warm Current reappears and these three mechanisms begin to operate as in summer. CTD surveys and satellite observations south of the Changjiang River estuary contribute to a better understanding of the tidal effects on regional ocean currents

    Effects of natto extract on endothelial injury in a rat model

    Vascular endothelial damage has been found to be associated with thrombus formation, which is considered to be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. A diet of natto leads to a low prevalence of cardiovascular disease. The aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of natto extract on vascular endothelia damage with exposure to laser irradiation. Endothelial damage both in vitro and in vivo was induced by irradiation of rose bengal using a DPSS green laser. Cell viability was determined by MTS assay, and the intimal thickening was verified by a histological approach. The antioxidant content of natto extract was determined for the free radical scavenging activity. Endothelial cells were injured in the presence of rose bengal irradiated in a dose-dependent manner. Natto extract exhibits high levels of antioxidant activity compared with purified natto kinase. Apoptosis of laser-injured endothelial cells was significantly reduced in the presence of natto extract. Both the natto extract and natto kinase suppressed intimal thickening in rats with endothelial injury. The present findings suggest that natto extract suppresses vessel thickening as a synergic effect attributed to its antioxidant and anti-apoptosis properties

    The Combination of Functional and Structural MRI Is a Potential Screening Tool in Alzheimer’s Disease

    Introduction: This study aimed to survey the discrimination power of parameters from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers, fluorodeoxyglucose uptake on PET (FDG-PET), structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and functional MRI in high- and low-risk subjects or in converters and stable subjects of normal and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) statuses.Methods: We used baseline resting-state functional MRI (rfMRI) from the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) dataset to analyze functional networks and recorded subjects’ characteristics and results of the CSF study, FDG-PET, and structural MRI from the ADNI website. All parameters were evaluated based on the between-group difference among normal (NC), MCI, and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) groups. The parameters other than CSF results were included to study the difference between high- and low-AD-risk subjects in NC or MCI groups, based on CSF results. On the basis of two-year follow-up conditions, all parameters were compared between stable subjects and converters in NC and MCI.Results: CSF biomarkers, FDG-PET, structural MRI, and functional MRI are all able to differentiate AD from MCI or NC but not between MCI and NC. As compared with low-AD-risk subjects, high-risk subjects present decreased FDG-PET in both MCI and NC groups but structural MRI change only in MCI status and rfMRI alteration only in NC status. As compared with stable subjects, converters have decreased FDG-PET, functional network changes, and structural changes in both MCI and NC groups.Conclusion: The combination of functional and structural MRI is a safer screening tool but with similar power as FDG-PET to reflect CSF change in the AD pathological process and to identify high-risk subjects and converters in NC and MCI

    The effect of network template from normal subjects in the detection of network impairment

    This study aimed to provide a simple way to approach group differences by independent component analysis when researching functional connectivity changes of resting‑state network in brain disorders. We used baseline resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging from the Alzheimer's disease neuroimaging initiative dataset and performed independent component analysis based on different kinds of subject selection, by including two downloaded templates and single‑subject independent component analysis method. All conditions were used to calculate the functional connectivity of the default mode network, and to test group differences and evaluate correlation with cognitive measurements and hippocampal volume. The default mode network functional connectivity results most fitting clinical evaluations were from templates based on young healthy subjects and the worst results were from heterogeneous or more severe disease groups or single‑subject independent component analysis method. Using independent component analysis network maps derived from normal young subjects to extract all individual functional connectivities provides significant correlations with clinical evaluations

    Square Key Matrix Management Scheme in Wireless Sensor Networks

    In this paper we propose a symmetric cryptographic approach named Square Key Matrix Management Scheme (SKMaS) in which a sensor node named Key Distribution Server (KDS) is responsible for the security of key management. When the system starts up, the KDS sends its individual key and two sets of keys to sensor nodes. With the IDs, any two valid sensor nodes, e.g. i and j, can individually identify the corresponding communication keys (CKs) to derive a dynamic shared key (DSK) for encrypting/decrypting messages transmitted between them. When i leaves the underlying network, the CKs and the individually keys currently utilized by i can be reused by a newly joining sensor, e.g. h. However, when h joins the network, if no such previously-used IDs are available, h will be given a new ID, CKs and the individually key by the KDS. The KDS encrypts the CKs, with which an existing node q can communicate with h, with individual key so that only q rather than h can correctly decrypt the CKs. The lemmas and security analyses provided in this paper prove that the proposed system can protect at least three common attacks
