Multiple charge beam dynamics in Alternate Phase Focusing structure

Asymmetrical Alternate Phase (A-APF) focusing realized in a sequence of 36 Superconducting Quarter Wave Resonators has been shown to accelerate almost 81 % of input Uranium beam before foil stripper to an energy of 6.2 MeV/u from 1.3 MeV/u. Ten charge states from 34+ to 43+ could be simultaneously accelerated with the phase of resonators tuned for 34+. A-APF structure showed unique nature of large potential bucket for charge states higher than that of tuned one. Steering inherent to QWRs can be mitigated by selecting appropriate phase variation of the APF periods and optimization of solenoid field strengths placed in each of the periods. This mitigation facilitates multiple charge state acceleration schemeComment: 10 pages, 8 figure

A computer solution for the dynamic load, lubricant film thickness and surface temperatures in spiral bevel gears

    Get PDF
A complete analysis of spiral bevel gear sets is presented. The gear profile is described by the movements of the cutting tools. The contact patterns of the rigid body gears are investigated. The tooth dynamic force is studied by combining the effects of variable teeth meshing stiffness, speed, damping, and bearing stiffness. The lubrication performance is also accomplished by including the effects of the lubricant viscosity, ambient temperature, and gear speed. A set of numerical results is also presented

Strain-Induced Coupling of Spin Current to Nanomechanical Oscillations

We propose a setup which allows to couple the electron spin degree of freedom to the mechanical motions of a nanomechanical system not involving any of the ferromagnetic components. The proposed method employs the strain induced spin-orbit interaction of electrons in narrow gap semiconductors. We have shown how this method can be used for detection and manipulation of the spin flow through a suspended rod in a nanomechanical device.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur

A computer solution for the dynamic load, lubricant film thickness, and surface temperatures in spiral-bevel gears

    Get PDF
A computer method for determining the dynamic load between spiral bevel pinion and gear teeth contact along the path of contact is described. The dynamic load analysis governs both the surface temperature and film thickness. Computer methods for determining the surface temperature, and film thickness are presented along with results obtained for a pair of typical spiral bevel gears

Generation of spin current and polarization under dynamic gate control of spin-orbit interaction in low-dimensional semiconductor systems

Based on the Keldysh formalism, the Boltzmann kinetic equation and the drift diffusion equation have been derived for studying spin polarization flow and spin accumulation under effect of the time dependent Rashba spin-orbit interaction in a semiconductor quantum well. The time dependent Rashba interaction is provided by time dependent electric gates of appropriate shapes. Several examples of spin manipulation by gates have been considered. Mechanisms and conditions for obtaining the stationary spin density and the induced rectified DC spin current are studied.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, RevTeX
