    Study on shear resistance of full-scale PC box girder reinforced by SPCCS method

    Steel plate and concrete composite strengthening (SPCCS) method is developed on the basis of steel and concrete composite girder, the process of which mainly includes welding studs on the reinforcing steel plates, planting rebars in the original concrete, and casting concrete between the original structure and steel plates, thus the new and existing concrete can work together. It can improve both the bearing capacity and stiffness of bridge significantly. In order to investigate the shear resistance of concrete girder reinforced by SPCCS method, two full-scale damaged box girder released from an actual bridge are tested for contrast, one without reinforcement and the other is reinforced by SPCCS method. The shear mechanical behavior and failure mode before and after reinforcement are obtained and analyzed. Furthermore, the shear mechanism and calculation formula of shear capacity for box girder reinforced by SPCCS method are presented. The comparisons show that the calculation results are in good agreement with the test results

    ηc\eta_c production at LHC and indications on the understanding of J/ψJ/\psi production

    We present a complete evaluation for the prompt ηc\eta_c production at the LHC at next-to-leading order in αs\alpha_s in nonrelativistic QCD. By assuming heavy quark spin symmetry, the recently observed ηc\eta_c production data by LHCb results in a very strong constraint on the upper bound of the color-octet long distance matrix element 1S01S0 of J/ψJ/\psi. We find this upper bound is consistent with our previous study of the J/ψJ/\psi yield and polarization and can give good descriptions for the measurements, but inconsistent with some other theoretical estimates. This may provide important information for understanding the nonrelativistic QCD factorization formulism.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, published version in PR

    The Impact of Sustained Drought on Vegetation Ecosystem in Southwest China Based on Remote Sensing

    AbstractSouthwest China is an important ecological shelter and ecologically vulnerable area. Since last winter and this spring, southwest china have suffered from sustained drought that rarely happened in the same season of past years, severely threatening the health of vegetation ecosystem. Annually contemporaneous difference of NDVI is used as an evaluation indicator in this analysis, in which vegetations are monitored and analyzed in a macro-scale. The results indicate that from August 2009 through March 2010: 1) vegetation in southwest China was remarkably impacted by sustained drought, leading to the ascendant trend of threatening degree. 2) the area of vegetation ecosystem that suffered from this disaster in Yunnan, Guangxi and Guizhou accounts for more than 80% of the total area of the vegetation ecosystem in these three administrative regions. 3) farmland vegetation was seriously damaged, resulting in large areas of crops dying off and failing and reservoirs and ponds drying up; 4) The effect on natural vegetation was obvious and the growth was apparently suppressed. Large areas of vegetations in dry-hot valley and Karst area degenerated, threatening the local biodiversity. Verification showed that study result is consistent with the result of practical monitoring, indicating that annually contemporaneous difference of NDVI responds strongly to the spatial and temporal sustained drought, which could precisely represent the occurrence and progress of drought and detailed spatial distribution

    An Novel Six-Segment Modulation Strategy for Three-Phase Isolated PFC Converter

    A three-phase isolated rectifier features bidirectional power conversion and galvanic isolation, and is attractive as a high-efficiency energy conversion system. However, when a conventional modulation is applied to this rectifier, the excessive DC-link current ripple will result in increasing switching losses or the size of DC-link inductance, which is not cost-effective. In order to effectively reduce the current ripple, this paper proposes a “six segment” PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) strategy. It can significantly reduce the current ripple compared with the existing “eight segment” PWM strategy. Meanwhile, the current quality of the grid is improved. Finally, the experimental tests were carried out. The experimental results reveal that, compared to the traditional “eight segment” PWM, the dc-side current ripple significantly reduced from 2 A to 0.8 A, the total harmonic distortion significantly reduced from 5.69% to 2.41%, and the power factor increased from 0.87 to 0.99, verifying the effectiveness of the proposed method

    Hepatocellular carcinoma detected by regular surveillance: Does timely confirmation of diagnosis matter?

    AbstractBackgroundAlthough current guidelines recommended surveillance of hepatocellular carcinoma, prognosis in patients undergoing enhanced follow-up has yet to be evaluated.AimsExamine outcomes of hepatocellular carcinoma diagnosed during enhanced follow-up.MethodsDuring 2010–2012, 194 patients underwent ultrasonography surveillance were diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma and divided into: (A) immediate diagnosis (N=105, 54.1%) after positive ultrasonography, (B) enhanced follow-up: (N=38, 19.6%) for initial negative recall procedures, (C) late call back: (N=28, 14.4%) recall procedures were deferred after positive ultrasonography, and (D) beyond ultrasonography: (N=23, 11.9%) surveillance ultrasonography had been negative.ResultsMedian time from positive ultrasonography to confirmation of hepatocellular carcinoma were 9.5 months (2–67) in the Group B and 6.5 months (3–44) in the Group C. Stage distribution and 3-year survival rates were similar amongst all Groups. Surveillance intervals longer than 6 months were associated with the non-curative stage (3.7% vs. 12.5%, p=0.04). Nine (4.6%) patients underwent surveillance were diagnosed as Barcelona-Clinic Liver Cancer stage C.ConclusionEnhanced follow-up by current guidelines is appropriate that treatment can be deferred until a definite diagnosis. Despite optimal surveillance interval and recall policies, few non-curative stage diagnoses seemed inevitable under current standard of care
