Damage detection and identification of parameter matrices using residual force vector
Beginning with incomplete mode shape measurement data, this study presents analytical equations to predict the actual stiffness and mass matrices. The measured modal data, including the measurement, manufacturing and modeling errors, should be updated for subsequent analysis. In this study, the incomplete mode shape data are expanded to a full set of degrees-of-freedom (DOFs) based on the generalized inverse method and the concept of residual force vector. The corrected parameter matrices are straightforwardly derived using the estimated mode shape data and the pseudo inverse method. The validity of the proposed method is evaluated based on the number of measured modes in an application, and its limitations are investigated
Representation learning of vertex heatmaps for 3D human mesh reconstruction from multi-view images
This study addresses the problem of 3D human mesh reconstruction from
multi-view images. Recently, approaches that directly estimate the skinned
multi-person linear model (SMPL)-based human mesh vertices based on volumetric
heatmap representation from input images have shown good performance. We show
that representation learning of vertex heatmaps using an autoencoder helps
improve the performance of such approaches. Vertex heatmap autoencoder (VHA)
learns the manifold of plausible human meshes in the form of latent codes using
AMASS, which is a large-scale motion capture dataset. Body code predictor (BCP)
utilizes the learned body prior from VHA for human mesh reconstruction from
multi-view images through latent code-based supervision and transfer of
pretrained weights. According to experiments on Human3.6M and LightStage
datasets, the proposed method outperforms previous methods and achieves
state-of-the-art human mesh reconstruction performance.Comment: ICIP 202
KINEMATIC COMPARISONS OF KETTLEBELL TWO-ARM SWINGS BETWEEN EXPERTS AND BEGINNERS
The purpose of this study was to investigate kinematic comparisons of kettlebell two-arm swings between experts and beginners in order to find out biomechanical key points for preventing sports injuries and enhancing kettlebell performance. Four experts and three beginners performed kettlebell two-arm swings fifteen times with a 16 kg kettlebell. Experts demonstrated larger ranges of motions (ROM) of pelvic segment and hip joint than beginners, while beginners revealed larger ROM of shoulder joint than experts. Magnitudes and sequential orders of peak angular velocities of major joints were significantly different between two groups. Conclusively, the mobility of pelvic segment and hip joint are required, while the stability of the other joint are needed to produce appropriate kettlebell two-arm swings. Rapid and accurate clinical testing for COVID-19 by nicking and extension chain reaction system-based amplification (NESBA)
We herein describe rapid and accurate clinical testing for COVID-19 by nicking and extension chain reaction system-based amplification (NESBA), an ultrasensitive version of NASBA. The primers to identify SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA were designed to additionally contain the nicking recognition sequence at the 5'-end of conventional NASBA primers, which would enable nicking enzyme-aided exponential amplification of T7 RNA promoter-containing double-stranded DNA (T7DNA). As a consequence of this substantially enhanced amplification power, the NESBA technique was able to ultrasensitively detect SARS-CoV-2 genomic RNA (gRNA) down to 0.5 copies/μL (= 10 copies/reaction) for both envelope (E) and nucleocapsid (N) genes within 30 min under isothermal temperature (41 °C). When the NESBA was applied to test a large cohort of clinical samples (n = 98), the results fully agreed with those from qRT-PCR and showed the excellent accuracy by yielding 100% clinical sensitivity and specificity. By employing multiple molecular beacons with different fluorophore labels, the NESBA was further modulated to achieve multiplex molecular diagnostics, so that the E and N genes of SARS-CoV-2 gRNA were simultaneously assayed in one-pot. By offering the superior analytical performances over the current qRT-PCR, the isothermal NESBA technique could serve as very powerful platform technology to realize the point-of-care (POC) diagnosis for COVID-19
Genetic Diversity of Halyomorpha halys (Hemiptera, Pentatomidae) in Korea and Comparison with COI Sequence Datasets from East Asia, Europe, and North America
The brown marmorated stinkbug, Halyomorpha halys, is an invasive insect pest in North America and Europe that attacks crop species and causes
substantial economic damage. To evaluate the genetic diversities and distributions of different H. halys populations in East Asia, North America, and
Europe, COI sequences obtained from 79 new specimens from Korea and 10 from the USA were compared with 725 existing COI sequences. In total,
45 haplotypes were detected in populations from 10 countries. Sixteen haplotypes from Korea (H34–H49) and 2 from the USA (H50 and H51) were
novel. Korean populations exhibited the 2nd highest diversity among the 10 countries, with only Greece exhibiting higher diversity. Haplotype H22
was prominent in Korea, H1 was prominent in China, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Canada, and USA, and H3 was prominent in France and Switzerland. Of
the 18 haplotypes found in Korea, 1 was shared with China (H2) and 1 with Greece (H22). Haplotype diversity patterns showed that Korean populations
were genetically distinct from populations in China, Europe, and North America. This suggested that populations in Europe and North America
arose through multiple invasions from China and that (with the exception of Greece), Korean populations did not spread to other countries. This
study represents a comprehensive analysis of H. halys populations in Korea and places these populations in a global context that includes other native
populations in East Asia and invasive populations in Europe and North America
