Special Apparel Needs of Consumers with Visual Impairments
The purpose of this study is to understand apparel consumers with visual impairments in terms of their apparel selection and shopping needs. The apparel needs of disabled consumers, specifically consumers with visual impairments, have not been thoroughly investigated (Chang et al., 2014). It is not known to what extent they differ, if at all, from consumers who are not visually impaired. Thus, this research provides insight into their apparel needs so that apparel manufacturers and retailers can better meet the needs of these disabled consumers
Irrational vs. rational charge and statistics in two-dimensional quantum systems
We show that quasiparticle excitations with irrational charge and irrational
exchange statistics exist in tight-biding systems described, in the continuum
approximation, by the Dirac equation in (2+1)-dimensional space and time. These
excitations can be deconfined at zero temperature, but when they are, the
charge re-rationalizes to the value 1/2 and the exchange statistics to that of

Driven Graphene as a Tunable Semiconductor with Topological Properties
Controlling the properties of materials by driving them out of equilibrium is
an exciting prospect that has only recently begun to be explored. In this
Letter we give a striking theoretical example of such materials design: a
tunable gap in monolayer graphene is generated by exciting a particular
optical phonon. We show that the system reaches a steady state whose transport
properties are the same as if the system had a static electronic gap,
controllable by the driving amplitude. Moreover, the steady state displays
topological phenomena: there are chiral edge currents, which circulate a
fractional charge e/2 per rotation cycle, with the frequency set by the
optical phonon frequency

TIBIO-FEMORAL JOINT FORCES DURING THE LANDING PHASE OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF VERTICAL JUMP
The purpose of this study was to compare the tibio-femoral contact forces during the landing phases of 8 different types of vertical jump (squat, countermovement, hop approach and drop jumps each with and without the use of arms). Data were collected from eight males and eight females. Two S-VHS camcorders and a force platform were used to obtain the 3-D kinematics and kinetics of the knee joint. Activities of selected muscles spanning the knee joint were monitored using surface electromyographic (EMG) techniques. The EMG-assisted optimization model was used to estimate the tibio-femoral joint forces. The peak compressive contact forces ranged from 3-5 body weight (SW) and from 2.5-3.7 SW for the males and females, respectively. Lamivudine plus adefovir combination therapy for lamivudine resistance in hepatitis-B-related hepatocellular carcinoma patients
Background/AimsLamivudine (LAM) plus adefovir (ADV) combination therapy has been accepted as one of the best treatments for LAM-resistant chronic hepatitis B (CHB). The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy of this combination therapy in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients.MethodsThe medical records of CHB patients who developed LAM resistance and were treated with LAM plus ADV combination therapy for more than 6 months were reviewed. Their virological response (VR; undetectable HBV DNA) and biochemical response (BR; alanine aminotransferase normalization) were evaluated, and the findings of HCC and non-HCC patients were compared.ResultsThe data from 104 patients (19 with HCC and 85 without HCC) were analyzed. The VR rates did not differ significantly between the HCC and non-HCC groups: 33.3% vs. 55.6% at 12 months (P=0.119), 58.3% vs. 67.2% at 24 months (P=0.742), 50% vs. 69.8% at 36 months (P=0.280), and 66.7% vs. 71.0% at 48 months (P=1.000). The BR rates also did not differ significantly between the groups: 55.6% vs. 84.0% at 12 months (P=0.021), 58.3% vs. 83.8% at 24 months (P=0.057), 70.0% vs. 77.8% at 36 months (P=0.687), and 66.7% vs. 80.6% at 48 months (P=0.591).ConclusionsThe efficacy of LAM plus ADV combination therapy is comparable in HCC and non-HCC patients
