    Microstructure evolution and mechanical property response of TC11 titanium alloy under electroshock treatment

    © 2020 The Authors This work investigated the effects of electroshock treatment (EST) on the microstructure variation and mechanical properties of TC11 alloy. The average hardness of the specimens decreased from 358 HV to 328 HV after EST of 0.04 s, then increased to 396 HV after EST of 0.06 s. After EST, the yield strength of specimen declined from 959 MPa to 797 MPa after EST of 0.04 s, and then increased to 1265 MPa after EST of 0.06 s, but the fracture strain decreased continuously. The variation in mechanical properties was closely related to the phase transition from the secondary α (αs) to β phase, and the precipitation of refined needlelike α martensite (αM). The diffusion of atoms accompanied by broaden αs/β boundary from 11.2 nm to 27.6 nm due to the phase transformation after EST by 0.04 s and the dislocation pileup at the boundary to form defects, which resulted the decrease in strength. While increasing the EST time to 0.06 s, the width of αM/β boundary decreased to 5.91 nm. All results indicated that the EST is an effective method for optimizing the microstructure and mechanical properties of titanium alloys in a short time

    W-exchange and W-annihilation processes of B mesons

    Using the PQCD method we calculate the W-exchange and the W-annihilation processes of B mesons, which in general involve a charm quark or anti-quark in the final state. The nonvanishing amplitudes of these processes are found to be suppressed by a factor of mc/mbm_c/m_b compared to the tree or the time-like penguin processes, but some of them are within the reach of observation at the future B-factories, and Bˉd0Ds+K\bar B_d^0 \to D^+_s K^- whose branching ratio is found to be 6.6×1066.6 \times 10^{-6} can be found even before the B-factory era.     The meson BcB_c annihilation to leptons and inclusive light hadrons

    The annihilation of the BcB_c meson to leptons and inclusive light hadrons is analyzed in the framework of nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization. We find that the decay mode, which escapes from the helicity suppression, contributes a sizable fraction width. According to the analysis, the branching ratio due to the contribution from the color-singlet component of the meson BcB_c can be of order (10^{-2}). We also estimate the contributions from the color-octet components. With the velocity scaling rule of NRQCD, we find that the color-octet contributions are sizable too, especially, in certain phase space of the annihilation they are greater than (or comparative to) the color-singlet component. A few observables relevant to the spectrum of charged lepton are suggested, that may be used as measurements on the color-octet and color-singlet components in the future BcB_c experiments.     Electroshock treatment dependent microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of near-β titanium alloy manufactured by directed energy deposition

    Effects of electroshock treatment (EST) on the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of near-β titanium alloy (Ti-55531) formed by directed energy deposition (DED) was studied in this work. With the increase in EST time, the average hardness of specimen decreased from 426 HV to 316 HV, and the fracture strain increased significantly, which was attributed to the uniform dispersion of α phase along grain boundaries and inside the β grains. After EST, the texture intensity decreased in terms of the orientation distribution function (ODF), which was ascribed to the redistribution of α phase. Moreover, more atomic vacancies and lattice distortion were formed near the α/β interfaces, which were verified by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation and ascribed to the migration of atoms near the interface under EST. External loadings facilitated the dislocation motion and lattice distortions near the interfaces, which resulted in the reduction in hardness and the improvement in ductility. The above results indicated that EST can quickly alter the microstructure and mechanical properties of DED titanium alloys as a simple and energy-saving method

    Inefficient DMN Suppression in Schizophrenia Patients with Impaired Cognitive Function but not Patients with Preserved Cognitive Function

    Previous studies have observed reduced suppression of the default mode network (DMN) during cognitive tasks in schizophrenia, suggesting inefficient DMN suppression is critical for the cognitive deficits of schizophrenia. Cognitive function in schizophrenia patients, however, varies from relatively intact to severely impaired. This study, which compared the DMN suppression patterns between first-episode schizophrenia patients with (SZ-Imp) and without (SZ-Pre) impaired cognitive function, may provide further insight into the role of DMN dysfunction in cognitive deficits of schizophrenia. Independent component analysis (ICA) was applied to resting-state fMRI data to identify the DMN in each subject, and then general linear modeling based on the task-fMRI data was used to examine the different DMN activation patterns between groups. We observed that the SZ-Imp group, but not the SZ-Pre group, showed reduced suppression in the medial prefrontal cortex and posterior cingulated cortexPrevious studies have observed reduced suppression of the default mode network (DMN) when compared to the healthy controls (HC) group. Moreover, less DMN suppression was associated with poorer task performance in both HC and patient groups. Our findings provide the first direct evidence that disrupted DMN activity only exists in schizophrenia patients with impaired cognitive function, supporting the specific neuro-pathological role of inefficient DMN suppression in cognitive deficits of first-episode schizophrenia

    Full-Length Genome of an Ogataea polymorpha Strain CBS4732 ura3Δ Reveals Large Duplicated Segments in Subtelomeric Regions

    BACKGROUND: Currently, methylotrophic yeasts (e.g., Pichia pastoris, Ogataea polymorpha, and Candida boindii) are subjects of intense genomics studies in basic research and industrial applications. In the genus Ogataea, most research is focused on three basic O. polymorpha strains-CBS4732, NCYC495, and DL-1. However, the relationship between CBS4732, NCYC495, and DL-1 remains unclear, as the genomic differences between them have not be exactly determined without their high-quality complete genomes. As a nutritionally deficient mutant derived from CBS4732, the O. polymorpha strain CBS4732 ura3Δ (named HU-11) is being used for high-yield production of several important proteins or peptides. HU-11 has the same reference genome as CBS4732 (noted as HU-11/CBS4732), because the only genomic difference between them is a 5-bp insertion. RESULTS: In the present study, we have assembled the full-length genome of O. polymorpha HU-11/CBS4732 using high-depth PacBio and Illumina data. Long terminal repeat retrotransposons (LTR-rts), rDNA, 5′ and 3′ telomeric, subtelomeric, low complexity and other repeat regions were exactly determined to improve the genome quality. In brief, the main findings include complete rDNAs, complete LTR-rts, three large duplicated segments in subtelomeric regions and three structural variations between the HU-11/CBS4732 and NCYC495 genomes. These findings are very important for the assembly of full-length genomes of yeast and the correction of assembly errors in the published genomes of Ogataea spp. HU-11/CBS4732 is so phylogenetically close to NCYC495 that the syntenic regions cover nearly 100% of their genomes. Moreover, HU-11/CBS4732 and NCYC495 share a nucleotide identity of 99.5% through their whole genomes. CBS4732 and NCYC495 can be regarded as the same strain in basic research and industrial applications. CONCLUSION: The present study preliminarily revealed the relationship between CBS4732, NCYC495, and DL-1. Our findings provide new opportunities for in-depth understanding of genome evolution in methylotrophic yeasts and lay the foundations for the industrial applications of O. polymorpha CBS4732, NCYC495, DL-1, and their derivative strains. The full-length genome of O. polymorpha HU-11/CBS4732 should be included into the NCBI RefSeq database for future studies of Ogataea spp

    Analysis of five deep-sequenced trio-genomes of the Peninsular Malaysia Orang Asli and North Borneo populations

    BackgroundRecent advances in genomic technologies have facilitated genome-wide investigation of human genetic variations. However, most efforts have focused on the major populations, yet trio genomes of indigenous populations from Southeast Asia have been under-investigated.ResultsWe analyzed the whole-genome deep sequencing data (30x) of five native trios from Peninsular Malaysia and North Borneo, and characterized the genomic variants, including single nucleotide variants (SNVs), small insertions and deletions (indels) and copy number variants (CNVs). We discovered approximately 6.9 million SNVs, 1.2 million indels, and 9000 CNVs in the 15 samples, of which 2.7% SNVs, 2.3% indels and 22% CNVs were novel, implying the insufficient coverage of population diversity in existing databases. We identified a higher proportion of novel variants in the Orang Asli (OA) samples, i.e., the indigenous people from Peninsular Malaysia, than that of the North Bornean (NB) samples, likely due to more complex demographic history and long-time isolation of the OA groups. We used the pedigree information to identify de novo variants and estimated the autosomal mutation rates to be 0.81x10(-8) - 1.33x10(-8), 1.0x10(-9) - 2.9x10(-9), and 0.001 per site per generation for SNVs, indels, and CNVs, respectively. The trio-genomes also allowed for haplotype phasing with high accuracy, which serves as references to the future genomic studies of OA and NB populations. In addition, high-frequency inherited CNVs specific to OA or NB were identified. One example is a 50-kb duplication in DEFA1B detected only in the Negrito trios, implying plausible effects on host defense against the exposure of diverse microbial in tropical rainforest environment of these hunter-gatherers. The CNVs shared between OA and NB groups were much fewer than those specific to each group. Nevertheless, we identified a 142-kb duplication in AMY1A in all the 15 samples, and this gene is associated with the high-starch diet. Moreover, novel insertions shared with archaic hominids were identified in our samples.ConclusionOur study presents a full catalogue of the genome variants of the native Malaysian populations, which is a complement of the genome diversity in Southeast Asians. It implies specific population history of the native inhabitants, and demonstrated the necessity of more genome sequencing efforts on the multi-ethnic native groups of Malaysia and Southeast Asia

    The Bc --> J/psi pi, etac pi decays are studied with the perturbative QCD approach. It is found that form factors and branching ratios are sensitive to the parameters w, v, f_J/psi and f_etac, where w and v are the parameters of the charmonium wave functions for Coulomb potential and harmonic oscillator potential, respectively, f_J/psi and f_etac are the decay constants of the J/psi and etac mesons, respectively. The large branching ratios and the clear signals of the final states make the Bc --> J/psi pi, etac pi decays to be the prospective channels for measurements at the hadron collidersComment: 21 pages, revtex

    TMS-evoked potential in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex to assess the severity of depression disease: a TMS-EEG study

    Objective: The combined use of transcranial magnetic stimulation and electroencephalography (TMS-EEG), as a powerful technique that can non-invasively probe the state of the brain, can be used as a method to study neurophysiological markers in the field of psychiatric disorders and discover potential diagnostic predictors. This study used TMS-evoked potentials (TEPs) to study the cortical activity of patients with major depressive disorder depression (MDD) and the correlation with clinical symptoms to provide an electrophysiological basis for the clinical diagnosis.Methods: A total of 41 patients and 42 healthy controls were recruited to study. Using TMS-EEG techniques to measure the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) ‘s TEP index and evaluate the clinical symptoms of MDD patients using the Hamilton Depression Scale-24 (HAMD-24).Results: MDD subjects performing TMS-EEG on the DLPFC showed lower cortical excitability P60 index levels than healthy controls. Further analysis revealed that the degree of P60 excitability within the DLPFC of MDD patients was significantly negatively correlated with the severity of depression.Conclusion: The low levels of P60 exhibited in DLPFC reflect low excitability in MDD; the P60 component can be used as a biomarker for MDD in clinical assessment tools

    A study on the rare radiative decay BcDsγB_c \to D_s^* \gamma

    We study the decay BcDsγB_c \rightarrow D_s^* \gamma. There are two mechanisms contributing to the process. One proceeds through the short distance bsγb{\rightarrow}s\gamma transition and the other occurs through weak annihilation accompanied by a photon emission.The electromagnetic penguin contribution is estimated by perturbative QCD and found to be 4.68×10184.68\times10^{-18} GeV. In particular, we find the contribution of the weak annihilation is 6.25×1018GeV6.25\times10^{-18}GeV which is in the same order as that of the electromagnetic penguin. The total decay rate Γ(BcDsγ)\Gamma(B_c \rightarrow D_s^* \gamma) is predicted to be 1.45×1017GeV1.45\times10^{-17}GeV and the branching ratio Br(BcDsγ)Br(B_c \rightarrow D_s^* \gamma) is predicted to be 2.98×1052.98\times 10^{-5} for τBc=1.35ps\tau_{B_c}=1.35ps. The the decays BcDsγB_c \rightarrow D_s^* \gamma can be well studied at LHC in the near future.Comment: 13 pages, in LaTeX, to be appear in Phys. Lett.
