    FUEL bundles for Rajasthan Atomic Power Reactor, as per the design, consist of a cluster of 19 elements held together by zircaloy end plates and spaced by wire helices on the six elements of the inner ring and alte-rnate elements of the outer ring. Each element is a zircaloy-2 tube 495 min long,1524 mm in diameter and of 0.4 nom wall thickness containing the nuclear fuel in the form of sintered uranium dioxide pellets and sealed at both ends. In order to provide the required spacing between the elements, zircaloy wire of 1.25 mm dia. is spot-welded around the elements in the helix form. The wire helices serve to separate the elements to maintain the dimensions of the coolant sub-channels between them and to increase the mixing of coolant between inner and outer sub-channels. Zircaloy wire of 1.63 mm dia. is spot-welded on the outer elements so as to provide bearing surfaces for the bundle when it moves through the fuel channels in the coolant assemblies

    Logarithmic Correction to BPS Black Hole Entropy from Supersymmetric Index at Finite Temperature

    It has been argued by Iliesiu, Kologlu and Turiaci in arXiv:2107.09062 that one can compute the supersymmetric index of black holes using black hole geometry carrying finite temperature but a specific complex angular velocity. We follow their prescription to compute the logarithmic correction to the entropy of BPS states in four dimensions, defined as the log of the index of supersymmetric black holes, and find perfect agreement with the previous results for the same quantity computed using the near horizon AdS2ƗS2AdS_2 \times S^2 geometry of zero temperature black holes. Besides giving an independent computation of supersymmetric black hole entropy, this analysis also provides a test of the procedure used previously for computing logarithmic corrections to Schwarzschild and other non-extremal black hole entropy.Comment: 23 page

    Selection of Voltage Thresholds for Delay Measurement

    Since all physical devices have a finite non-zero responsetime, the notion of delay between the input and output logicsignals arises naturally once digital abstraction is done. Thisdelay should be positive and non-zero, since a physical devicetakes a finite amount of time to respond to the input. Defininga strictly positive delay is not a problem in the abstract domainof logic signals, since input and output ā€™ā€™eventsā€˜ā€˜ are preciselydefined. However, when the signal non-idealities are accountedfor, the notion of events is blurred and it is not obvious howto define delay such that it reflects the causal relationshipbetween the input and the output. By necessity, we define thestart and end points of these events by determining the timeinstants when the signals cross some appropriate voltage thresholds.The selection of these voltage thresholds for logic gates aswell as simple interconnect wires, is the subject of this paper.We begin by a discussion of what we mean by signal delay andhow it arises in a logic gate. With this background, startingfrom ideal inputs to ideal inverters and concluding with physicalinputs to physical inverters, we examine the problem of thresholdselection for inverters through a logical sequence of model refinement,using a combination of analytical and experimental techniques.Based on the insight gained through this analysis, we examinethe problem for multi-input (both static and dynamic) gates aswell as point-to-point interconnect wires. We show that thresholdsderived from the gateā€˜s DC voltage transfer characteristic removesthe anomalies, such as negative delay and large sensitivity toinput waveshape effects, that can arise with the widely used50% and 10%ā€“90% thresholds. Despite its fundamentalnature, however, we note that the problem of threshold selectionhas received scant attention in the literature.     K-Space at TRECVID 2008

    In this paper we describe K-Spaceā€™s participation in TRECVid 2008 in the interactive search task. For 2008 the K-Space group performed one of the largest interactive video information retrieval experiments conducted in a laboratory setting. We had three institutions participating in a multi-site multi-system experiment. In total 36 users participated, 12 each from Dublin City University (DCU, Ireland), University of Glasgow (GU, Scotland) and Centrum Wiskunde and Informatica (CWI, the Netherlands). Three user interfaces were developed, two from DCU which were also used in 2007 as well as an interface from GU. All interfaces leveraged the same search service. Using a latin squares arrangement, each user conducted 12 topics, leading in total to 6 runs per site, 18 in total. We officially submitted for evaluation 3 of these runs to NIST with an additional expert run using a 4th system. Our submitted runs performed around the median. In this paper we will present an overview of the search system utilized, the experimental setup and a preliminary analysis of our results

    Impaired basal glucose effectiveness but unaltered fasting glucose release and gluconeogenesis during short-term hypercortisolemia in healthy subjects

    Excess cortisol has been demonstrated to impair hepatic and extrahepatic insulin action. To determine whether glucose effectiveness and, in terms of endogenous glucose release (EGR), gluconeogenesis, also are altered by hypercortisolemia, eight healthy subjects were studied after overnight infusion with hydrocortisone or saline. Glucose effectiveness was assessed by a combined somatostatin and insulin infusion protocol to maintain insulin concentration at basal level in the presence of prandial glucose infusions. Despite elevated insulin concentrations (P < 0.05), hypercortisolemia resulted in higher glucose (P < 0.05) and free fatty acid concentrations (P < 0.05). Furthermore, basal insulin concentrations were higher during hydrocortisone than during saline infusion (P < 0.01), indicating the presence of steroid-induced insulin resistance. Postabsorptive glucose production (P = 0.64) and the fractional contribution of gluconeogenesis to EGR (P = 0.33) did not differ on the two study days. During the prandial glucose infusion, the integrated glycemic response above baseline was higher in the presence of hydrocortisone than during saline infusion (P < 0.05), implying a decrease in net glucose effectiveness (4.42 +/- 0.52 vs. 6.65 +/- 0.83 ml.kg-1.min-1; P < 0.05). To determine whether this defect is attributable to an impaired ability of glucose to suppress glucose production, to stimulate its own uptake, or both, glucose turnover and "hot" (labeled) indexes of glucose effectiveness (GE) were calculated. Hepatic GE was lower during cortisol than during saline infusion (2.39 +/- 0.24 vs. 3.82 +/- 0.51 ml.kg-1.min-1; P < 0.05), indicating a defect in the ability of glucose to restrain its own production. In addition, in the presence of excess cortisol, glucose disappearance was inappropriate for the prevailing glucose concentration, implying a decrease in glucose clearance (P < 0.05). The decrease in glucose clearance was confirmed by the higher increment in [3-3H]glucose during hydrocortisone than during saline infusion (P < 0.05), despite the administration of identical tracer infusion rates. In conclusion, short-term hypercortisolemia in healthy individuals with normal beta-cell function decreases insulin action but does not alter rates of EGR and gluconeogenesis. In addition, cortisol impairs the ability of glucose to suppress its own production, which due to accumulation of glucose in the glucose space results in impaired peripheral glucose clearance. These results suggest that cortisol excess impairs glucose tolerance by decreasing both insulin action and glucose effectiveness

    COST292 experimental framework for TRECVID 2008

    In this paper, we give an overview of the four tasks submitted to TRECVID 2008 by COST292. The high-level feature extraction framework comprises four systems. The first system transforms a set of low-level descriptors into the semantic space using Latent Semantic Analysis and utilises neural networks for feature detection. The second system uses a multi-modal classifier based on SVMs and several descriptors. The third system uses three image classifiers based on ant colony optimisation, particle swarm optimisation and a multi-objective learning algorithm. The fourth system uses a Gaussian model for singing detection and a person detection algorithm. The search task is based on an interactive retrieval application combining retrieval functionalities in various modalities with a user interface supporting automatic and interactive search over all queries submitted. The rushes task submission is based on a spectral clustering approach for removing similar scenes based on eigenvalues of frame similarity matrix and and a redundancy removal strategy which depends on semantic features extraction such as camera motion and faces. Finally, the submission to the copy detection task is conducted by two different systems. The first system consists of a video module and an audio module. The second system is based on mid-level features that are related to the temporal structure of videos
