Prediction of Damping in Three-phase Fibre-reinforced Composites
Fibre-reinforced composite materials are considered to comprise three components, i.e., fibre, matrix, and the interphase. The interphase is the part of the matrix placed in the vicinity of fibre surface all along its length and has distinct properties from that of the fibre and the matrix. In the present study, it is assumed that the interphase is homogeneous and isotropic. A 2-D and 3-D finite element modelling (micromechanical modelling) of the three-phase system is conducted to predict the four damping cocfficienrs- longitudinal; transverse, longitudinal shear, and transverse shear loss factors. Correlation and path-analysis for morpho-economic traits and chemical constituents of essential oil in Corn mint (Mentha arvensis L.) accessions.
Mentha arvensis L. which belongs to Lamiaceae family and it is also know as cornmint or japanese mint.The plant as been used for medicinal and aromatic purpose since from ancient time. The present study was planned to estimate the variability among morpho-economic traits, to estimate magnitude of association between essential oil yield and its contributing traits and to determine the direct and indirect effects of various agro-morphic traits on essential oil yield. Experimental materials consist of twenty-nine accessions, which were evaluated for two consecutive years (2016-2017 and 2017-2018) in a randomized complete-block design (RCBD) with two replications. Data were collected on agro-morphic traits and essential oil yield. The results revealed that, the plant height was ranged from 72 cm (MASP-20) to 31cm (MASP-2), herb yield per plot was ranged from 1.83 kg/plot (MASP-13) to 4.36 kg/plot (MASP-12), and essential oil yield was varied from 0.118 kg/plot (MASP-1) to 0.698 kg/plot (MASP-12).The menthol percent was varied from 0.13% (MASP-15) to 73.19 % (MASP-24),menthyl acetate 25.52% (MASP-29) to 0.030% (MASP-18), pulegone 0 % to 75.00% (MASP-22), and limonene was varied from 0.24 %(MASP-29) to 24.89% (MASP-27).The significant and positive association was noticed between essential oil yield and herb yield per plot (0.82**; ** = significant at 1% probability level) and number of branches per plant (0.26*; *= significant at 5% probability level). Among the chemical constituents of essential oil, Limonene percent was positively and significantly correlated with pulegone percent. The path coefficient analysis revealed that herb yield per plot had the highest direct effect on essential oil yield (0.8104). Plant height, number of branches per plant, and herb yield per plot can be used as a selection criterion during selection to develop a high yielding menthol mint chemotypes.
Design and Implementation of Low Power, Area Crosstalk Reduction Using Static Timing Analysis
One of the biggest issues with VLSI connections is crosstalk, which is caused by coupling capacitance. Crosstalk reduces operation performance during switching activities and produces undesired output. Noise level rises as switching frequency does as well. Crosstalk will be eliminated by encode the data before connecting into the bus line. This procedure reduces the crosstalk issue by using the improved logic architecture. The proposed approach utilizes a combination of circuit-level optimization techniques, such as gate sizing and interconnect optimization, and advanced timing analysis tools to minimize power consumption and reduce crosstalk
Tuberous sclerosis with visceral leishmaniasis: a case report
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Introduction</p> <p>Visceral leishmaniasis, a tropical infectious disease, is a major public health problem in India. Tuberous sclerosis, a congenital neuro-ectodermosis, is an uncommon disease which requires life long treatment.</p> <p>Case presentation</p> <p>A 15-year-old Indian patient, presented to the outpatient department of our institute with a high-grade fever for two months, splenomegaly and a history of generalized tonic-clonic convulsions since childhood. The clinical and laboratory findings suggested visceral leishmaniasis with tuberous sclerosis. The patient was treated with miltefosine and antiepileptics.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>The patient responded well and in a follow up six months after presentation, she was found free of visceral leishmaniasis and seizures. Diagnosis and treatment of this rare combination of diseases is difficult.</p
Can oysters control eutrophication in an integrated fish-oyster aquaculture system?
Eutrophication is a serious problem occurring in ponds or estuaries where fish culture is practised. A possible solution to this problem is to raise oysters in an integrated culture with fish to improve water clarity and to help remove excess nutrients. In order to determine the effects that cultured oysters have on the environment, an experimental study was performed in the Moothakunnam region of the Vembanad lake in the Ernakulam District during February-November, 2012. The study was performed in four cages (1× 1× 1 m) referred to as treatments T1, T2, T3 and T4. The four treatments used fish ( Etroplus suratensis ) and oysters ( Crassostrea madrasensis ) in the ratio of 1:0.3, 1:0.5, 1:0.7 and 1:0 respectively. Several parameters were measured and compared between the four treatments, and these included temperature, pH, salinity, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and orthophosphate. Results showed that the parameters, DO, BOD, COD, TSS, ammonia and orthophosphate varied with different treatments and months. However, the contents of nitrite and nitrate showed variation only with respect to months. The eutrophication index (E) values calculated for the four treatments were 9.45 ± 4.41, 5.25 ± 3.23, 11.32 ± 6.17 and 11.52 ± 5.45 respectively. The lower E value obtained was for T2 which supports the conclusion that oysters can control eutrophication in an integrated aquaculture system. The optimal co-cultivation proportion of fish to oysters obtained from the present study was 1:0.5
Indications for Absorbable Steroid-Eluting Sinus Implants: Viewpoint via the Delphi Method
Absorbable steroid-eluting sinus implants provide targeted corticosteroid release over a sustained period and are designed to prevent both undesirable adhesion formation and sinus ostia restenosis. Here, we highlight the key evidence of these implants to date and query a group of experts via a Delphi process on the indications and optimal timing for intraoperative or in-office placement of these implants. Six of a total of 12 statements reached consensus and were accepted. Overall, experts largely agree that intraoperative or in-office use of steroid-eluting stents could be considered for patients: (1) who are diabetic or intolerant of oral steroids, (2) undergoing extended frontal sinus surgery, and (3) with recurrent stenosis. Given the lack of expert consensus on other key statements, clinicians should carefully consider these treatment options on a case-by-case basis after shared decision-making
