    2D solar wind speeds from 6 to 26 solar radii in solar cycle 24 by using Fourier filtering

    Measurement of the solar wind speed near the Sun is important for understanding the acceleration mechanism of the solar wind. In this study, we determine 2D solar wind speeds from 6 to 26 solar radii by applying Fourier motion filters to \textit{SOHO}/LASCO C3 movies observed from 1999 to 2010. Our method successfully reproduces the original flow speeds in the artificially generated data as well as streamer blobs. We measure 2D solar wind speeds from 1-day to 1-year timescales and their variation in solar cycle 24. We find that the solar wind speeds at timescales longer than a month in the solar maximum period are relatively uniform in the azimuthal direction, while they are clearly bimodal in the minimum period, as expected from the \textit{Ulysses} observations and IPS reconstruction. The bimodal structure appears at around 2006, becomes most distinctive in 2009, and abruptly disappears in 2010.     Improving ionic conductivity of von-Alpen-type NASICON ceramic electrolytes via magnesium doping

    NASICON (sodium (Na) superionic conductor) compounds have attracted considerable attention as promising solid electrolyte materials for advanced Na-based batteries. In this study, we investigated the improvement in ionic conductivities of von-Alpen-type NASICON (vA-NASICON) ceramic electrolytes by introducing a magnesium ion (Mg2+) as a heterogeneous element. The optimal Mg-doped vA-NASICON exhibited a high ionic conductivity of 3.64×10−3 S·cm−1, which was almost 80% higher than that of un-doped vA-NASICON. The changes in physicochemical properties of the vA-NASICONs through the Mg introduction were systematically analyzed, and their effects on the ionic conductivities of the vA-NASICON were studied in detail. When the optimal ratio of Mg2+ was used in a synthetic process, the relative density (96.6%) and grain boundary ionic conductivity (σgb) were maximized, which improved the total ionic conductivity (σt) of the vA-NASICON. However, when Mg2+ was introduced in excess, the ionic conductivity decreased because of the formation of an undesired sodium magnesium phosphate (NaxMgyPO4) secondary phase. The results of this study are expected to be effectively applied in the development of advanced sodium-based solid electrolytes with high ionic conductivities

    Manual Acupuncture at PC6 Ameliorates Acute Restraint Stress-Induced Anxiety in Rats by Normalizing Amygdaloid Noradrenergic Response

    Acupuncture improves ethanol withdrawal-induced anxiety in rats in an acupoint-dependent manner. Thus, the present study investigated the effects of acupuncture on acute restraint stress- (ARS-) induced anxiety. Male rats were exposed to ARS for 3 h followed by acupuncture at either PC6 (Neiguan), HT7 (Shenmen), or a nonacupoint (tail) once a day for three consecutive days. Five minutes after the third acupuncture treatment, anxiety-like behavior was evaluated in an elevated plus maze (EPM). Additionally, plasma corticosterone (CORT) levels were measured by radioimmunoassay and the concentrations of norepinephrine (NE) and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy-phenylglycol (MHPG) in the central nucleus of the amygdala (CeA) were determined using high-performance liquid chromatography. Acupuncture at PC6, but not HT7 or a nonacupoint, attenuated anxiety-like behavior, but this attenuation was abolished by a postacupunctural intra-CeA infusion of NE. Acupuncture at PC6 also reduced the oversecretion of plasma CORT and inhibited increases in amygdaloid NE and MHPG induced by ARS. Further, Western blot analyses and real-time polymerase chain reaction assays revealed that acupuncture at PC6 prevented ARS-induced enhancements in the protein and mRNA expressions of tyrosine hydroxylase in the CeA. These results suggest that acupuncture performed specifically at acupoint PC6 reduces ARS-induced anxiety-like behavior by dampening amygdaloid noradrenergic responses

Ten percent of extra pulmonary tuberculosis localizes to the bones and joints, and 56% of such cases affect the spine. We treated a childhood case of spinal tuberculosis misdiagnosed as muscular dystrophy in a patient without specific constitutional symptoms. We report this case because the patient had an unusual presentation of spinal tuberculosis

    Conformal invariance of curvature perturbation

    We show that in the single component situation all perturbation variables in the comoving gauge are conformally invariant to all perturbation orders. Generally we identify a special time slicing, the uniform-conformal transformation slicing, where all perturbations are again conformally invariant to all perturbation orders.     The Efficacy of Transforaminal Epidural Steroid Injection by the Conventional Technique in Far-Lateral Herniation of Lumbar Disc

    Background: Owing to the anatomical difference between the far lateral herniation of the lumbar disc (FHLD) and the intraspinal herniation of lumbar disc (iHLD), the outcome of transforaminal epidural steroid injections (TFESI) in patients with FHLD seems to be different from that in patients with iHLD. However, few studies have evaluated the efficacy of TFESI in FHLD.Objective: To evaluate and compare the efficacy of TFESI in FHLD and iHLD patients.Study Design: A retrospective design.Methods: There were 15 and 70 patients in the FHLD and iHLD groups, respectively. Patients received a fluoroscopically guided TFESI. Failure rates of TFESI were recorded, and questionnaires, including a visual analog scale (VAS) for leg pain and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) were administered before the initial injection, at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks after the injections.Results: There was no failure for TFESI in the iHLD group, while 9 patients had to undergo alternative blocks in the FHLD group due to lancinating leg pain when the needle was advanced for TFESI. In the iHLD group, there was a statistically significant improvement in the VAS and ODI score 12 weeks after injection. Considering only successful cases of the FHLD group, significant improvement in the VAS and ODI score was also demonstrated in the FHLD group 12 weeks after injection.     Acetylation changes tau interactome to degrade tau in Alzheimer’s disease animal and organoid models

The most common pathological hallmarks are amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in the brain. In the brains of patients with AD, pathological tau is abnormally accumulated causing neuronal loss, synaptic dysfunction, and cognitive decline. We found a histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) inhibitor, CKD-504, changed the tau interactome dramatically to degrade pathological tau not only in AD animal model (ADLPAPT) brains containing both amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles but also in AD patient-derived brain organoids. Acetylated tau recruited chaperone proteins such as Hsp40, Hsp70, and Hsp110, and this complex bound to novel tau E3 ligases including UBE2O and RNF14. This complex degraded pathological tau through proteasomal pathway. We also identified the responsible acetylation sites on tau.
