The object of this study is to assess the knowledge management strategies for schools under the St. Gabriel’s Foundation of Thailand. The researcher used descriptive research through mixed methods. The quantitative information and data were collected by using a questionnaire to discover the authentic state and the preferred state of knowledge management and key success factors for knowledge management of 15 schools under the St. Gabriel’s Foundation. Qualitative information was collected from focus group discussion, interviews and questionnaires in order to formulate strategies. The strategies were verified, in terms of quality, by experts and school directors to study feasibility and appropriateness of the implementation of the strategies. The questionnaire was structured based on knowledge management and key success factors for knowledge management, in accordance with concepts, theories and operational definitions of knowledge management. and a focus group discussion amongst co-administrators, teachers and related staff. The quantitative data were analyzed in descriptive statistics by applying frequency, average and standard deviation, inferential statistics by applying t-test and ANOVA. The qualitative data were analyzed by content analysis. In summary, the research findings showed that an authentic state of knowledge management was practiced at a high level. The preferred state was at the highest level; knowledge acquisition was practiced at a high level. Knowledge transmission and knowledge utilization need to be improved. The important problem was a lack of knowledge and understanding of knowledge management. The key success factors for knowledge management were information technology and leadership. Measurement and evaluation need to be improved. Knowledge management for schools under the St. Gabriel’s Foundation of Thailand comprised 5 strategies as follows:Formulating strategic plans of knowledge management at all levels of the organization, Developing schools under the St.Gabriel’s Foundation to be learning organizations for sustainable development, Promoting the administrative structure, leadership and culture to facilitate knowledge management,Developing an information technology system for knowledge management. Creating internal and external networks to support knowledge management. Each strategy had sub-strategies and policies/directions examined and certified in terms of quality by experts, with the average value at the highest level (between 4.51-5.00). From the evaluation of feasibility and appropriateness of implementation in schools by school directors, the value was at the highest level (between 4.51-5.00)

Cardiovascular Risk Assessment in Developing World

    Get PDF
Many international and national authorities recommend that cardiovascular risk assessment using multivariate risk scores be used to identify individuals at high risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). This approach is likely to assure that resources in developing countries are allocated to those who need it most. However, not many developing countries have implemented this approach and different countries have varying progresses in adopting the concept. While many developing countries solely described estimated cardiovascular risk by applying existing CVD risk scores to their population’s cross-sectional data, a number of countries have validated and recalibrated existing risk scores and only a few have developed new risk scores specific to their populations. To enhance the adoption of such a policy in developing countries, new CVD risk prediction charts for low- and medium-resource settings were developed and endorsed by the WHO and International Society of Hypertension. However, a number of issues need to be addressed, including development of population-specific risk scores, recalibration of available risk scores and uncertainty over cost-effectiveness of CVD risk assessment in developing countries. Although this high risk approach might represent an effective and practical strategy for developing countries, a complementary population-based approach is also needed to maximize benefits for CVD prevention

This paper presents the testing results and analytical results of segmental precast slabs, formed by four panels of segmental precast units with band beams and connected together with loop joints. Three sets of the single span of 3200x3200 mm slabs were tested. They were simply supported at each corner by steel columns of size 200x200 mm and were tested under uniformly distributed load steps by means of sand bags. The slabs were also analyzed by using the nonlinear finite element method with assuming nonlinear material properties. From the experiments, it was found that the slabs have a linear behavior up to 40% of its ultimate load. After cracks occurred, the slabs behave nonlinearly and yielding of the main steel reinforcement occurred at the load about 65% of its ultimate load at the ratio of the maximum deflections to span length about 0.003. Also, all slabs have very high ductility at their failure with the ductility factor about 6 and the mode of failure can be considered as a progressive failure. Comparing the analytical results with the experimental results, it can be concluded that the segmental precast slabs can be built as strong as the conventional slabs to sustain service loads for the ranges of 3.0 to 4.0 kN/m2, providing that the loop joints connect the precast units perfectly

Dietary Diversity in Cambodian Garment Workers: The Role of Free Lunch Provision

The objective of this paper is to compare food consumption by Cambodian garment workers with and without access to a free model lunch provision through a factory-based canteen. Data from an exploratory randomised controlled trial were analysed. In total, 223 female Cambodian garment workers were allocated to an intervention arm (six-month lunch provision) or a control arm. Dietary intake on workdays was assessed by qualitative 24-h recalls at baseline and twice at follow-ups during the period of lunch provision using the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) guideline on assessing women´s dietary diversity. In total, 158 participants provided complete data on the dietary intake over workdays at all interviews. Lunch provision resulted in a more frequent consumption of dark green leafy vegetables (DGLV), vitamin A-rich fruits, other fruits, and oils and fats during lunch breaks. In contrast, flesh meats, legumes, nuts and seeds, as well as sweets, were eaten at a lower frequency. Except for a higher consumption rate of vitamin A-rich fruits and a lower intake frequency of sweets, lunch provision had a less clear impact on total 24-h intake from different food groups and was not associated with a higher women´s dietary diversity score (WDDS). A more gap-oriented design of the lunch sets taking into account underutilised foods and the nutritional status of the workers is recommended

Objective:To compare the effectiveness and side effects of misoprostol as a cervical ripening agent through two different routes of administration before curettage.Materials and Methods: The study employed a hospital based prospective randomized controlled trial. A total of 70 patients were simple random divided in two groups for 400 micrograms sublingual and vaginal administration. The drug was administered 6 hours before dilatation and curettage or fractional curettage. Efficacy was assessed on cervical dilatation achieved, pain score and vaginal blood loss. The tolerable limit was noted based on side effects. Results: The sublingual group had significantly more cervical dilatation than the vaginal group (median cervical dilatation 7 mm vs. 5 mm, P < 0.001). Significantly less pain scores (VAS) in sublingual group than vaginal group (3.3 vs. 4.8, P < 0.001). Postoperative vaginal blood loss in the sublingual group was significantly greater than the vaginal group (20 ml vs. 10 ml, P < 0.001). Other side effects such as fever, chill, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea did not differ in both groups. Conclusion: Sublingual misoprostol could be more effective for cervical dilatation, but presents greater postoperative vaginal blood loss than vaginal route

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to compare the lower-limb dynamics between fore-foot (FF) and rear-foot (RF) strike patterns during unplanned sidestepping. Three-dimensional (3D) motion capture data were collected from 16 elite female hockey players. Ankle, knee, and hip: angle at initial foot contact (IC), range of motion (ROM), peak moment, and negative peak net joint power during weight acceptance phase were compared between athletes using natural RF and FF strike techniques. Results showed ankle and hip angle at IC, ankle ROM, peak ankle and knee extension moments, peak knee valgus moments, and ankle and knee negative peak net power between RF and FF strike patterns were significantly different (a < 0.05). These findings show foot strike technique during unplanned sidestepping can effect athlete lower-limb dynamics, where RF strike athletes may be at higher risk of ACL injury
