Este trabalho tem por objetivo apresentar aspectos salientes da forma como evoluiu a produção do café na região do Cerrado entre 1975 e 2003, considerando a ocupação espacial da cultura na região. Como uma breve descrição de tendência dessa evolução, é apresentado o deslocamento do centro de gravidade da produção do café na região, tanto em termos da produção global, quanto para grupos de microrregiões que perfazem, aproximadamente, 25% da produção total da região

Development of a Farm Management Tool for the Brazilian Conditions

This paper presents results of a managerial information system prototype developed for modern agriculturalists in the Brazilian Cerrado´s Region. It follows a case study approach. One medium scale (422 hectares) of operation was envisioned, archetypical accounting framework was established, aiming to provide better data and information to support farm management decisions. The system has proved to be useful in examining decision making at farm level and in ex ante evaluations of changes in farm-level input use, output and profitability in response to price, policy, and/or technology changes. First-principles study of the electrooptic effect in ferroelectric oxides

We present a method to compute the electrooptic tensor from first principles, explicitly taking into account the electronic, ionic and piezoelectric contributions. It allows us to study the non-linear optic behavior of three ferroelectric ABO_3 compounds : LiNbO_3, BaTiO_3 and PbTiO_3. Our calculations reveal the dominant contribution of the soft mode to the electrooptic coefficients in LiNbO_3 and BaTiO_3 and identify the coupling between the electric field and the polar atomic displacements along the B-O chains as the origin of the large electrooptic response in these compounds.Comment: accepted for publication in Phys.
