The research has been conducted on 122 teachers who are employed in pre school education institutions located at Ankara. In order to collect information about teachers and the institutions that they are employed in “General Information Form”; in order to evaluate the problem solving abilities of teachers “Inventory of Problem Solving” which has been designed by Heppner and Petersen (1982) and whose validity and reliability were checked by Taylan (1990) were used. At the end of the study, it has been determined that age is a determinative factor on problem solving abilities of teacher candidates; while their graduated department, the seniority, their type of the institution, the number of the children in the group and their ages do not have any significant impact on the level of problem solving abilities of teachers.Bu araştırmada, okul öncesi eğitim kurumunda çalışan öğretmenlerinproblem çözme becerilerinin belirlenmesi ve problem çözme becerilerinde bazıdeğişkenlerin anlamlı farklılık yaratıp yaratmadığının incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır.Araştırma Ankara il merkezinde bulunan okul öncesi eğitim kurumlarında çalışantoplam 122 öğretmen üzerinde yürütülmüştür. Araştırmada öğretmenlerin kendilerive çalıştıkları okul öncesi kurum hakkında bilgi edinmek amacıyla “Genel BilgiFormu”, öğretmenlerin problem çözme becerilerini değerlendirmek için Heppner vePetersen (1982) tarafından geliştirilen ve Taylan (1990) tarafından geçerlik vegüvenirlik çalışması yapılan “Problem Çözme Envanteri” kullanılmıştır. Araştırmasonucunda öğretmen adaylarının problem çözme beceri düzeylerinde öğretmeninyaşının etkili olduğu belirlenirken, mezun oldukları alanın, çalışma süresinin,çalıştığı kurum türünün, gruptaki çocuk sayısının ve çocukların yaşınınöğretmenlerin problem çözme beceri düzeylerinde etkili olmadığı saptanmıştı

Land Ownership and Profitability of Greenhouse Production: Antalya Case

Agricultural production and income are important for Mediterranean region of Turkey. The region and especially Antalya province is well-known with greenhouse production. For greenhouse production achieving sustainability is important for meeting domestic and foreign demand and security of production lands. In order to measure the potential for improving greenhouse operators 281 farmers were surveyed in 2015 in Antalya and profit inefficiency and factors affecting inefficiencies of operators were estimated using stochastic frontier approach. Accordingly, the average inefficiency level of operators was found as 57 %, signifying the potential for improvement. The main objective was to undermine the impact of landownership on this inefficiency level. Yet, the impact of other relevant factors referring to greenhouse structures and famers’ characteristics were estimated as well. While level of education seemed to reduce inefficiency, household size had appeared as an inefficiency rising factor referring to professional labour endowment of greenhouse production in Antalya. Being renter of land appeared as an inefficiency rising factor as well as holding plastic house or having located in the western parts of Antalya. These findings indicated importance of supporting improved production technologies and use of strengthened structures. In addition, it appeared as essential to provide incentives to renters to cope with their costs

The Relationship between Development Level and Supply and Demand of Main Agricultural Products

The recent trends in primary food prices have been evaluated as a signifier of the potential threats to the world in terms of food shortages and hunger. The prices of primary agricultural products like wheat and rice have risen significantly in the essential producer countries. The recent price changes were partially attributed to production shortages, which, if true, are expected to constitute a critical problem for both the suppliers and demanders. The rising prices, in accordance with the food shortages, are expected to influence the developing countries and the poverty lines that are mostly determined by the food intake. Accordingly, a relationship between poverty and real food prices is suspected mainly for developing and the least-developed countries. With this in mind, this study investigates the relationship between development level, including the indication of income distribution, and the producer prices of rice and wheat. We analyze the degree of relationship between the Gini coefficient, indicating the level of income distribution, and various production indicators such as producer prices and yields of rice and wheat. Analysis of the data reveals that it is not possible to infer a significant relationship between yield of rice or wheat and the level of national income distribution. When the rich and poor countries are discriminated according to the level of income distribution, it is understood that rising producer prices reduce the income inequality by less than one percent. We conclude that the relationship should be reviewed with respect to contemporary changes in prices and level of income distribution and aggregates of income distribution in order to make proper inferences

The economic effects of epidemics: from SARS and MERS to COVID-19

Around the end of 2019 through to 2020, the world had to encounter an outbreak of the novel COVID-19, a globally devastating virus, leading to mass losses and socio-economic panic. The impacts of previous SARS-COV and MERS-COV on macro-economic conditions, income level and labour market composition of 26 selected countries were evaluated within this paper in order to make economic inferences for COVID-19. The evaluation signed that the more fatal SARS-COV had depreciating effects on all economies in the sample, while MERS-COV had affected a more limited number of countries. Yet, the past epidemics mostly affected the labour market and services sector, as emphasized by the literature on economics of epidemics. It can be foreseen that, the services sector will be affected negatively with supply and labour demand aspects even after the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. On the other hand, changing consumption attitudes and the rising tendency for online shopping may lead a closer correlation between agriculture and services sectors in terms of delivery services. It might be possible to understand such impacts as more micro-data can be analysed in the future

Osteomyelitis of pubic symphysis is infectious inflammatory condition of the symphysis pubis and rare complication of surgery around inguinal and groin region. It should be kept in mind in the differential diagnosis of lower pelvic pain and should be sought in cases of pelvic insufficiency fractures. Herein, we present a case of a 55-year-old man with osteomyelitis of the symphysis pubis following inguinal hernia surgery for diagnosis and management of this rare condition

Four different bacterial DNA extraction strategies and two different qPCR probe chemistries were studied for detection of Stapylococcus aureus from white cheeses. Method employing trypsin treatment followed by a commercial kit application and TaqMan probe-based qPCR was the most sensitive one detecting higher counts than standards in naturally contaminated samples.Research Funds of Izmir Institute of Technology (2010-IYTE-05

WOS: 000269853900012The relationship between teachers' professional self-esteem and empathic skills was assessed. Participants were 216 female teachers working in preschools in the city center of Ankara. Data were gathered using a general information form; the Scale for Professional Self-Esteem (Aricak, 1999) was used to measure teachers' professional self-esteem; and empathic skills were measured with the Scale for Empathic Skills - B Form (Dokmen, 1988). A positive relationship was found between teachers' professional self-esteem and empathic skills (r = .17, p > .05)
