    Get PDF
We present the design and testing of a rotating device that fits within a commercial helium cryostat and is capable of providing at 4 K a fresh sample surface for subsequent shots of a 1–10 kHz amplified pulsed laser. We benchmark this rotator in a transient-absorption experiment on molecular switches. After showing that the device introduces only a small amount of additional noise, we demonstrate how the effect of signal degradation due to high fluence is completely resolve

The influence of granulometric properties of the material and of the operational conditions on the drying kinetics of nonhygroscopic material was studied. Four fraction sizes of dolomite were chosen and dried in four dryers by different heating methods. Dolomite was dried in a microwave dryer under different microwave heating powers. During convective drying the effects of temperature and superficial air velocity were monitored. Vacuum drying was carried out at different temperatures and pressures. Page’s model has shown to be successful in describing the drying kinetics throughout the entire drying operation, irrespective of the heating mode. Heat intensity (θ, Pm), superficial air velocity and particle size had influence on the drying kinetics. The process was facilitated by higher temperatures and superficial air velocity, higher intensity of microwave radiation and bigger particles. Change of pressure in the vacuum dryer had no significant effect on the drying kinetics under the chosen operating conditions

    Get PDF
The aim of this research was to explore the applicability of norm activation theory in the context of organic vegetables with intention to purchase as a variable of the interest. Survey was conducted on a sample of 404 organic vegetables consumers. Results of Structural Equation Modeling revealed that the determinants of personal norm were awareness of need and social norm. Personal norm and social norm significantly and positively influenced purchasing intention of organic vegetables, approving applicability of norm activation theory. Based on these findings, recommendations for marketing practice are given in order to strengthen purchasing intention of organic vegetables and thus purchasing behaviour of organic vegetables as a form of pro-environmental behaviour.

    Get PDF
Rural tourism has become one of the most popular strategies for rural development, and motivation is one of the most important criteria for identifying market segments. The aim of this paper is to explore the travel motivations of domestic rural tourists in Croatia and to identify a profile of rural tourists based on push travel motivation and tourist behaviour. An online survey was conducted on a convenient sample of 307 respondents. The collected data were analysed using factor analysis followed by cluster analysis. For rural tourists in Croatia, the most important travel motives are seeking relaxation and learning new things. Using a factor–cluster approach to market segmentation, the following four segments were identified: (1) Rural researchers and seekers of relaxation (16.8%), (2) Excitement seekers (29.0%), (3) Passive tourists (22.8%), and (4) Family rural tourists (31.4%). The study confirms the appropriateness of the push motives for segmenting tourists in emerging rural tourism destinations. The findings may help destination marketers to develop effective promotional and business strategies

The purpose of this research was to examine some aspects of buying behaviour of Croatian organic vegetables consumers, and to explore factors influencing buying frequency. A survey was conducted with 404 respondents in four selling points in Zagreb: two specialized organic food stores, one supermarket, and one city market. The survey results have shown that three most often bought organic vegetables species are: green salad, tomatoes and carrots. Most consumers claim to buy organic vegetables occasionally, and most often in specialized organic food stores. Gender, number of household members, presence of children under 12 years in household, self-rated knowledge about organic vegetables, as well as usual buying place of organic vegetables have strong influence on buying frequency

This thesis analyzes geography curricula in four European countries: Finland, Poland, Romania and Slovenia, and compares them with the National curriculum of geography for elementary schools and high schools in the Republic of Croatia. Along with the curricula of the mentioned countries, the results of the PISA research in the above mentioned countries have been analyzed as one of the indicators of the level of geographical knowledge and skills and natural literacy. Structured interviews will gather the information and attitudes of several PISA testing participants (2015) as an example of their testing experience, how to solve the exams and the final results. The comparative analysis of the geography curriculum focuses on analyzing the duration of compulsory education, the importance of geography in education systems, the number of hours of geography in the total annual, monthly and weekly lessons, and the basic outcomes in particular years of geography learning

In this work, three joints of a X11CrMoWVNb9-1-1 (P911) pipe were welded with three filler metals by conventional arc welding. The filler metals varied in creep strength level, so that one overmatched, one undermatched, and one matched the creep strength of the P911 grade pipe base material. The long-term objective of this work was to study the influence of weld metal creep strength on the overall creep behavior of the welded joints and their failure mechanism. Uniaxial creep tests at 600°C and stresses ranging from 70 MPa to 150 MPa were performed on the cross-weld samples of all three welds. A total creep testing time of more than 470,000 h was accumulated. The longest running sample achieved a time-to-rupture of more than 45,000 h. Creep testing revealed that the use of undermatching weld metal led to a premature fracture in the weld metal at higher stress levels. Compared with undermatching weld metal, the use of matching and overmatching filler materials increased the time-to-rupture at high stress levels by 75% and 33% at lowest stress levels. At typical component stresses below 100 MPa, all samples failed in the grain-refined heat-affected zone by characteristic type IV failure. For investigations of the failure modes, cross sections of fractured samples were investigated by optical light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and electron backscatter diffraction. The mechanism of weld metal creep failures and type IV creep failures is discussed in detail
