What your Facebook Profile Picture Reveals about your Personality
People spend considerable effort managing the impressions they give others.
Social psychologists have shown that people manage these impressions
differently depending upon their personality. Facebook and other social media
provide a new forum for this fundamental process; hence, understanding people's
behaviour on social media could provide interesting insights on their
personality. In this paper we investigate automatic personality recognition
from Facebook profile pictures. We analyze the effectiveness of four families
of visual features and we discuss some human interpretable patterns that
explain the personality traits of the individuals. For example, extroverts and
agreeable individuals tend to have warm colored pictures and to exhibit many
faces in their portraits, mirroring their inclination to socialize; while
neurotic ones have a prevalence of pictures of indoor places. Then, we propose
a classification approach to automatically recognize personality traits from
these visual features. Finally, we compare the performance of our
classification approach to the one obtained by human raters and we show that
computer-based classifications are significantly more accurate than averaged
human-based classifications for Extraversion and Neuroticism
Is Big Five better than MBTI?
Personality Computing from text has become popular in Natural Language Processing (NLP). For assessing gold-standard personality types, Big5 and MBTI are two popular models but still there is no comparison of the two in personality computing. With this paper, we provide for the first time a comparison of the two models from a computational perspective. To do that we exploit two multilingual datasets collected from Twitter in English, Italian, Spanish and Dutch.
Electroplasma technologies: automation of the project life cycle
Efficiency of the automated methods of plasmatrons designing can be raised due to integration of designing and manufacture technologies. The basic directions of automation for plasmotron designing are considered. Models and forms of algorithmization for the automated designing in electroplasma technologies are presentedЭффективность автоматизированных методов проектирования плазмотронов можно повысить за счет интеграции технологий проектирования и производства. Рассмотрены основные направления автоматизации процедур проектирования плазмотронов. Представлены модели и формы алгоритмизации автоматизированного проектирования в электроплазменных технология
Advanced multi-sensor platform for chronic disease home monitoring
Nowadays chronic diseases affect an ever-growing segment of population in developed countries; and the management of such kind of diseases requires a huge amount of resources. Chronic Heart Failure, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Diabetes, etc. are the main causes of hospitalization for elderly people, and considering the general aging of population this may lead sustainability problems in the near future. In the last years, clinicians and administrators have identified the telemedicine as strategy to improve the patient management, ensuring both a decreasing of hospital admissions and improving the patient's quality of life. This paper presents a complete system for the management of the healthcare information related to the chronic patient treatment, integrating three main points: a configurable multi-sensor platform for the acquisition and transmission of vital signs, a dedicated server for the provisioning of centralized telemedicine services and the possibility of synchronizing with the electronic health record
Irony Detection: from the Twittersphere to the News Space
Automatic detection of irony is one of the hot topics for sentiment analysis, as it changes the polarity of text. Most of the work has been focused on the detection of figurative language in Twitter data due to relative ease of obtaining annotated data, thanks to the use of hashtags to signal irony.
However, irony is present generally in natural language conversations and in particular in online public fora. In this paper, we present a comparative evaluation of irony detection from Italian news fora and Twitter posts. Since irony is not a very frequent phenomenon, its automatic detection suffers from data imbalance and feature sparseness problems. We experiment with different representations of text – bag-of-words, writing style, and word embeddings to address the feature sparseness; and balancing techniques to address the data imbalanc
The Workshop on Computational Personality Recognition 2014
The Workshop on Computational Personality Recognition aims to define the state-of-the-art in the field and to provide tools for future standard evaluations in personality recognition tasks. In the WCPR14 we released two different datasets: one of Youtube Vlogs and one of Mobile Phone interactions. We structured the workshop in two tracks: an open shared task, where participants can do any kind of experiment, and a competition. We also distinguished two tasks: A) personality recognition from multimedia data, and B) personality recognition from text only. In this paper we discuss the results of the worksho
