Charged-Current Neutral Pion production at SciBooNE
SciBooNE, located in the Booster Neutrino Beam at Fermilab, collected data
from June 2007 to August 2008 to accurately measure muon neutrino and
anti-neutrino cross sections on carbon below 1 GeV neutrino energy. SciBooNE is
studying charged current interactions. Among them, neutral pion production
interactions will be the focus of this poster. The experimental signature of
neutrino-induced neutral pion production is constituted by two electromagnetic
cascades initiated by the conversion of the neutral pion decay photons, with an
additional muon in the final state for CC processes.
In this poster, I will present how we reconstruct and select charged-current
muon neutrino interactions producing neutral pions in SciBooNE.Comment: NuInt09 poster proceedings, 4 page
Eastern Mediterranean water outflow during the Younger Dryas was twice that of the present day
Eastern Mediterranean deep-intermediate convection was highly sensitive to varying inputs
of fresh water fluxes associated with increased rainfall during the African Humid period (15-6
kyr Before Present). Here we investigate changes in the water-outflow from the Eastern
Mediterranean Sea since the last deglaciation using neodymium isotope ratios. Our results
indicate enhanced outflow during the Younger Dryas, two times higher than present-day
outflow and about three times higher than during the last Sapropel. We propose that the
increased outflow into the western Mediterranean over the Younger Dryas was the result of
the combined effect of 1) enhanced climate-driven convection in the Aegean Sea and 2)
reduced convection of western deep water during this period. Our results provide solid
evidence for an enhanced Younger Dryas westward flow of Eastern Mediterranean sourced
waters in consonance with an intensification of Mediterranean water-outflow during a
weakened state of the Atlantic circulatio
Measurement of inclusive charged current interactions on carbon in a few-GeV neutrino beam
The SciBooNE Collaboration reports a measurement of inclusive charged current
interactions of muon neutrinos on carbon with an average energy of 0.8 GeV
using the Fermilab Booster Neutrino Beam. We compare our measurement with two
neutrino interaction simulations: NEUT and NUANCE. The charged current
interaction rates (product of flux and cross section) are extracted by fitting
the muon kinematics, with a precision of 6-15% for the energy dependent and 3%
for the energy integrated analyses. We also extract CC inclusive interaction
cross sections from the observed rates, with a precision of 10-30% for the
energy dependent and 8% for the energy integrated analyses. This is the first
measurement of the CC inclusive cross section on carbon around 1 GeV. These
results can be used to convert previous SciBooNE cross section ratio
measurements to absolute cross section values.Comment: 21 pages, 16 figures. Accepted by Phys. Rev. D. Minor revisions to

Search for Charged Current Coherent Pion Production on Carbon in a Few-GeV Neutrino Beam
The SciBooNE Collaboration has performed a search for charged current
coherent pion production from muon neutrinos scattering on carbon, \nu_\mu
^{12}C \to \mu^- ^{12}C \pi^+, with two distinct data samples. No evidence for
coherent pion production is observed. We set 90% confidence level upper limits
on the cross section ratio of charged current coherent pion production to the
total charged current cross section at 0.67\times 10^{-2} at mean neutrino
energy 1.1 GeV and 1.36\times 10^{-2} at mean neutrino energy 2.2 GeV.Comment: 18 pages, 16 figures, Minor revisions to match version accepted for

Dual baseline search for muon neutrino disappearance at 0.5eV2\u3cΔm2\u3c40eV2
The SciBooNE and MiniBooNE collaborations report the results of a ν μ disappearance search in the Δm2 region of 0.5-40eV2. The neutrino rate as measured by the SciBooNE tracking detectors is used to constrain the rate at the MiniBooNE Cherenkov detector in the first joint analysis of data from both collaborations. Two separate analyses of the combined data samples set 90% confidence level (CL) limits on ν μ disappearance in the 0.5-40eV2 Δm2 region, with an improvement over previous experimental constraints between 10 and 30eV2. © 2012 American Physical Society
Improved measurement of neutral current coherent π0 production on carbon in a few-GeV neutrino beam
The SciBooNE Collaboration reports a measurement of neutral current coherent π0 production on carbon by a muon neutrino beam with average energy 0.8 GeV. The separation of coherent from inclusive π0 production has been improved by detecting recoil protons from resonant π0 production. We measure the ratio of the neutral current coherent π0 production to total charged current cross sections to be (1.16±0.24)×10-2. The ratio of charged current coherent π+ to neutral current coherent π0 production is calculated to be 0.14-0.28+0.30, using our published charged current coherent pion measurement. © 2010 The American Physical Society

Dual baseline search for muon antineutrino disappearance at 0.1eV2\u3cΔm2\u3c100eV2
The MiniBooNE and SciBooNE collaborations report the results of a joint search for short baseline disappearance of ν ̄μ at Fermilab\u27s Booster Neutrino Beamline. The MiniBooNE Cherenkov detector and the SciBooNE tracking detector observe antineutrinos from the same beam, therefore the combined analysis of their data sets serves to partially constrain some of the flux and cross section uncertainties. Uncertainties in the ν μ background were constrained by neutrino flux and cross section measurements performed in both detectors. A likelihood ratio method was used to set a 90% confidence level upper limit on ν ̄μ disappearance that dramatically improves upon prior limits in the Δm2=0.1-100eV2 region. © 2012 American Physical Society
Measurement of inclusive neutral current π0 production on carbon in a few-GeV neutrino beam
The SciBooNE Collaboration reports inclusive neutral current neutral pion production by a muon neutrino beam on a polystyrene target (C8H8). We obtain (7.7±0.5(stat)±0.5(sys))×10-2 as the ratio of the neutral current neutral pion production to total charged current cross section; the mean energy of neutrinos producing detected neutral pions is 1.11/2 GeV. The result agrees with the Rein-Sehgal model implemented in our neutrino interaction simulation program with nuclear effects. The spectrum shape of the π0 momentum and angle agree with the model. We also measure the ratio of the neutral current coherent pion production to total charged current cross section to be (0.7±0.4)×10-2. © 2010 The American Physical Society
