Exploring minority stress in gender-diverse populations

Section A: This section is a systematic literature review of empirical research exploring type and extent of social and legal transitions and their relationship with mental health and social wellbeing. The review included thirteen quantitative and one qualitative study. Most studies were published within the last five years, all within the last nine, demonstrating the relevance and importance of research in transgender and gender-diverse populations. The review highlighted numerous methodological challenges to researching such a diverse population with varying experiences. Clinical, policy and research implications are discussed. Section B: This section details a cross-sectional survey exploring gender identity-related minority stress and wellbeing in adolescents referred to a gender identity clinic in the UK. The internal consistency of an adapted measure of gender identity minority stress for adolescents is reviewed, with the measure demonstrating good internal consistency. On average, participants reported experience of 17 out of the 54 minority stressors assessed. The most commonly reported minority stressors related to negative expectations from others, internalised transphobia and transnegative communication from others. Statistical analyses found no significant differences in gender identity minority stress between minority and majority groups. Intersectionality is explored alongside clinical implications, limitations and future research

Internal Influences in the Repatriation Movement: possible future directions with a focus on indigenous cultural property

By bringing together existing literature on the wider repatriation debate, and examining how different strands within the discussion influence, benefit or constrain one another, it is the hope of the author that this work will add to, weave together and potentially illuminate existing scholarly and professional discussion of repatriation from museum collections, with a view to understanding how these interactions will continue to build or develop in future. This is neither a justification nor an exploration of a particular stance on this contentious issue in museum practice, but rather an investigation of the inner workings of the repatriation movement and the legislation, professional obligations and discussion which surround it

Discovery of 6.035GHz Hydroxyl Maser Flares in IRAS18566+0408

We report the discovery of 6.035GHz hydroxyl (OH) maser flares toward the massive star forming region IRAS18566+0408 (G37.55+0.20), which is the only region known to show periodic formaldehyde (4.8 GHz H2CO) and methanol (6.7 GHz CH3OH) maser flares. The observations were conducted between October 2008 and January 2010 with the 305m Arecibo Telescope in Puerto Rico. We detected two flare events, one in March 2009, and one in September to November 2009. The OH maser flares are not simultaneous with the H2CO flares, but may be correlated with CH3OH flares from a component at corresponding velocities. A possible correlated variability of OH and CH3OH masers in IRAS18566+0408 is consistent with a common excitation mechanism (IR pumping) as predicted by theory.Comment: Accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journa

Power, Threat, Meaning Framework informed audit: the ubiquitous experience of trauma in adults with psychosis

In the context of the Power, Threat, Meaning Framework and trauma-informed care, this audit attempted to identify experiences of trauma and adversity for clients on the caseload of an NHS community psychosis team. Histories of trauma were found for every client. The number of trauma experiences ranged from 1–9, giving a mean of 2.7 per client. This confirms clients with psychosis as a highly traumatised group and supports the trauma model of psychosis
