Stochastic harmonic emission model of aggregate residential customers

    Get PDF
Harmonic propagation studies of public distribution networks require accurate models of aggregate residential customers (groups of customers) that simulate the harmonic emission of the multitude of household appliances in the network. Most of the present models were developed with the component-based approach, where models of individual household appliances are combined to build the model of multiple customers. This approach requires high amount of input data, like models of individual household appliances and detail information of customer behavior and device composition, which is usually not easy to acquire. However, with the increasing number of PQ-analyzers in the networks, the measurement-based approach is now more and more considered for the modeling of aggregate customers. The measurement-based approach uses measurements of the network in combination with top-down methodologies to obtain models of the aggregate customers. Compared to the component-based approach it has several advantages, like inherent consideration of the real operating changes of the individual household appliances, variation of customer behavior, effect of line impedances, cancellation and attenuation effects, etc. This thesis presents the development of a time-series stochastic model of the low-order harmonic emission of aggregate residential customers based on a top-down measurement-based approach. The model represents the daily variation of the harmonic magnitudes and phase angles. Besides, the model includes the representation of the harmonic unbalances, which is of great importance for the proper analysis of harmonic propagation in medium-voltage networks. The model is parametrized for German networks, but the methodology can be applied to find the models of other regions or countries

Background: Oral and pharyngeal cancer (OPC) is a frequent type of cancer in Puerto Rico, with the risk being higher in men relative to women. We assessed differences in OPC risk factors implicated in these sex disparities. Methods: We analyzed data of 740 adult participants (40-65 years) from the San Juan Overweight Adults Longitudinal Study (SOALS). A comprehensive questionnaire was administered to collect information on sociodemographic characteristics, cigarette smoking, binge drinking, oral high-risk HPV infection, fruit and vegetable consumption, sexual behavior, and oral hygiene practices. A full-mouth periodontal examination was also performed. Sixteen OPC known and potential risk factors were evaluated. Crude and adjusted prevalence ratio (PR) estimates for individual OPC risk factors, by sex, were calculated using log-binomial regression. Results: Compared to women, men had significantly increased prevalence of several OPC risk factors including current smoking (PR: 1.91, 95% Confidence interval [CI]: 1.35-2.70), binge drinking (PR: 1.92, 95% CI: 1.31-2.84), and severe periodontitis (PR: 2.05, 95% CI: 1.47-2.85). Conclusions: Men were significantly more likely than women to have risk factors for OPC. Cancer prevention and control efforts should focus on sex-specific interventions that help reduce this disparity

The main objective of this study is to develop an acceptable and nutrient-dense noodles from KALINGA mix and moringa. Materials for making the noodles such as KALINGA mix (rice, sesame seeds, mung bean), bread flour, and moringa powder were purchased at the local market of Los Baños, Laguna. Malnutrition in the Philippines remains to be a serious health problem, especially to low-income areas. Its challenges and enormity in the country require new research and innovations that are accessible and will make use of native resources to achieve better health and nutrition for the community. Hence an attempt  to develop an acceptable and nutrient-dense noodles incorporating KALINGA mix and moringa. The noodles were prepared with different ratios of KALINGA mix (30g, 20g, 10g) and flour (70g, 80g, 90g, 100g). All samples were then added with 5g of moringa. The results of the study showed that all the cooking losses of the samples were below the technologically acceptable limit (≤8%). In the overall acceptability, the sample with  30g KALINGA has the highest mean score of 7.125 (like moderately). The proximate composition showed that the highest moisture content (7.64%), and crude protein (10.86%) were found in 10g KALINGA, whereas crude fat (15.57%), and ash (1.0%) were the highest in 30g KALINGA, crude fiber (0.73%) and NFE (69.77%) were highest in the control sample. For the mineral content, the control sample was highest in calcium (125 mg/100g), and iron (7.4mg/100g) while the 30g KALINGA had the lowest in both. Zinc is the same in all samples (1.2 mg/100g). In conclusion, the sample with 30g KALINGA was good in terms of its cooking quality, overall acceptability, and proximate composition. The control however was better in its calcium, and iron content

Objective The objective of this study was to assess patients’ achievement of ADA (American Diabetes Association) guideline recommendations for glycosylated hemoglobin, lipid profile, and blood pressure in a type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) outpatient clinic in a low-middle income country (LMIC) setting. Methods This is a descriptive cross-sectional study with 123 ambulatory T2DM patients who are being treated at a public hospital in Lima, Peru. Data was gathered via standardized interviews, clinical surveys, and anthropomorphic measurements for each patient. Blood samples were drawn in fasting state for measures of glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and lipid profile. Laboratory parameters and blood pressure were evaluated according to ADA recommendations. Results Of the 123 patients, 81 were women and the mean age was 61.8 years. Glycemic control was abnormal in 82 (68.33%) participants, and 45 (37.50%) were unable to control their blood pressure. Lipid profile was abnormal in 73 (60.83%) participants. Only nine (7.50%) participants fulfilled ADA recommendations for glycemic, blood pressure, and lipid control. Conclusions Amongst individuals with type 2 diabetes, there was poor attainment of the ADA recommendations (HbA1c, blood pressure and LDL-cholesterol) for ambulatory T2DM patients. Interventions are urgently needed in order to prevent long-term diabetic complications

OBJECTIVE: To compare the effectiveness of shared decision making with usual care in choice of admission for observation and further cardiac testing or for referral for outpatient evaluation in patients with possible acute coronary syndrome. DESIGN: Multicenter pragmatic parallel randomized controlled trial. SETTING: Six emergency departments in the United States. PARTICIPANTS: 898 adults (aged \u3e17 years) with a primary complaint of chest pain who were being considered for admission to an observation unit for cardiac testing (451 were allocated to the decision aid and 447 to usual care), and 361 emergency clinicians (emergency physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants) caring for patients with chest pain. INTERVENTIONS: Patients were randomly assigned (1:1) by an electronic, web based system to shared decision making facilitated by a decision aid or to usual care. The primary outcome, selected by patient and caregiver advisers, was patient knowledge of their risk for acute coronary syndrome and options for care; secondary outcomes were involvement in the decision to be admitted, proportion of patients admitted for cardiac testing, and the 30 day rate of major adverse cardiac events. RESULTS: Compared with the usual care arm, patients in the decision aid arm had greater knowledge of their risk for acute coronary syndrome and options for care (questions correct: decision aid, 4.2 v usual care, 3.6; mean difference 0.66, 95% confidence interval 0.46 to 0.86), were more involved in the decision (observing patient involvement scores: decision aid, 18.3 v usual care, 7.9; 10.3, 9.1 to 11.5), and less frequently decided with their clinician to be admitted for cardiac testing (decision aid, 37% v usual care, 52%; absolute difference 15%; P CONCLUSIONS: Use of a decision aid in patients at low risk for acute coronary syndrome increased patient knowledge about their risk, increased engagement, and safely decreased the rate of admission to an observation unit for cardiac testing.Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov NCT01969240

ABSTRACT Background: Cognitive dysfunctions are frequently found in the 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome, being an aggravating factor in the impairment of social relationships and communication, strongly impacting the functionality of the individual. Increasing the knowledge regarding cognitive skills may provide contributions to the diagnostic process and the intervention planning. Objectives: To estimate the general, verbal, and non-verbal cognitive functioning of children and adolescents with 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive, and case series study regarding 15 individuals between 7-18 years-old diagnosed with 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome. An assessment of the cognitive functions was performed using the Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence (WASI). For data analysis we used a descriptive statistics analysis, having absolute frequencies for variables, and mean, median, standard deviation, minimum and maximum values for numerical variables. Results: In the group analysis, we observed an important cognitive impairment degree. Most of the sampling (n=8; 53.33%) presented a considerably low total intelligence quotient score. Cases showing lower performances also presented greater difficulties regarding Visual Motor and Visuospatial coordination. Regarding the intelligence quotient representative punctuation in the WASI scale, the sample showed a large variability in the results (between 40 and 92 points), with the median total of 83. Conclusions: We observed important dysfunctions, cognitive difficulties, and intellectual, verbal, and non-verbal disabilities in the population studied. These findings indicate the need for an early intervention to assist not only the cognitive aspect, but also the socio-emotional development of children with the 22q11.2 Deletion Syndrome, aiming at their participation in society
