Mucositis is an adverse efect of chemotherapy (QT) and/or radiotherapy (RT). Te purpose of this study was to investigate the occurrence of oral mucositis in children undergoing cancer treatment. Methods. Fify-one children with cancer who had received QT, RT, or both (QT-RT) underwent clinical evaluations; World Health Organization criteria were used to establish the degree and severity of mucositis. Te correlations between the clinical data, type of cancer, and therapy were statistically analysed. Results. Mucositis was present in 88.23% of the patients; 57.78%, 7.78%, and 24.44% received QT, RT, and QT-RT, respectively. Severity scores of 1 and 2 were the most common; scores of 3-4 were observed in patients who received QT-RT or more than 7 treatment cycles. Tere was a signifcant association between mucositis, the type of treatment, and the number of cycles received ( < 0.05). Conclusion. It is important to implement therapeutic protocols that help maintain excellent oral health and reduce the risk of oral mucositis. Stomatologists should be consulted to assess patients’ oral cavities and provide preventive treatment prior to QT and/or RT administration. It is important to integrate a stomatologist into the oncological working group to focus on preventing and managing oral mucositis

L Propolis is a product derived from bees and consists of a dark-colored sticky material obtained from different plants and mixed with wax, which is used to protect beehives. It has therapeutic qualities, so the objective of this study was to carry out a bibliographic review of the properties and uses of propolis in dentistry.Methodology: A literature search was carried out on the applications of propolis in dentistry in the databases PubMed, Imbiomed, Medigraphic, SciELO and Google Scholar in the period from March 2010 to March 2020, using the keywords: propolis, characteristics, properties and uses of propolis.Results. Thirty-nine articles reporting results in relation to its properties and uses in dentistry were included. The main properties: antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory and healing, basically attributed to the bioactive compound Flavonoids. Propolis is used in dentistry for different treatments: prevention of dental caries, endodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics and oral surgery.Currently, special attention has been paid to the applications of propolis, being a natural product useful for treatments in different areas of dentistry where its great efficacy has been demonstrated.

Fluoride is ingested primarily through consuming drinking water. When drinking water contains fluoride concentrations >0.7 parts per million (ppm), consuming such water can be toxic to the human body; this toxicity is called “fluorosis.” Therefore, it is critical to determine the fluoride concentrations in drinking water. The objective of this study was to determine the fluoride concentration in the drinking water of the city of Durango. The wells that supply the drinking water distribution system for the city of Durango were studied. One hundred eighty-nine (189) water samples were analyzed, and the fluoride concentration in each sample was quantified as established by the law NMX-AA-077-SCFI-2001. The fluoride concentrations in such samples varied between 2.22 and 7.23 ppm with a 4.313 ± 1.318 ppm mean concentration. The highest values were observed in the northern area of the city, with a 5.001 ± 2.669 ppm mean value. The samples produced values that exceeded the national standard for fluoride in drinking water. Chronic exposure to fluoride at such concentrations produces harmful health effects, the first sign of which is dental fluorosis. Therefore, it is essential that the government authorities implement water defluoridation programs and take preventative measures to reduce the ingestion of this toxic halogen

Artículo de revisión.Acompañan al trabajo 4 cuadros.Long-term treatment can damage the salivary glands, the oral mucosa, and the maxilla, leading to altered production of saliva and to multiple infections. These lesions can be prevented, limited or avoided by thorough evaluation prior to treatment and by therapeutic follow-up and preventive measures. The dentist must have strong medical knowledge of the possible short-, medium-, and long-term oral complications of the cancer treatment, and must have knowledge of the protocols for oral management of cancer patients. The availability of a multidisciplinary medical team together with a dentist to attend to the patient prior to the cancer treatment, as well as close communication between team members during and after treatment, is crucial. The aim of the present study was review the stomatological management of head and neck cancer patients treated with chemotherapy and radiotherapy and summarizing current treatments, therapeutic innovation and tissue regeneration perspectives.(AU
