SUSY and BSM in the face of LHC-14

In this talk I review the motivations for physics beyond the Standard Model at the TeV scale and the prospects for their detection in the second Run of LHC. New techniques for chargino-neutralino detection at LHC

The recent LHC discovery of a Higgs-like boson at 126 GeV has important consequences for SUSY, pushing the spectrum of strong-interacting supersymmetric particles to high energies, very difficult to probe at the LHC. This gives extra motivation to study the direct production of electroweak particles, as charginos and neutralinos, which are presently very poorly constrained. The aim of this work is to improve the analysis of chargino-neutralino pair production at LHC, focusing on the kinematics of the processes. We propose a new method based on the study of the poles of a certain kinematical variable. This complements other approaches, giving new information about the spectrum and improving the signal-to-background ratio. We illustrate the method in particular SUSY models, and show that working with the LHC at 100/fb luminosity one would be able to distinguish the SUSY signal from the Standard Model background.Comment: accepted for publication in JHE

MSSM Forecast for the LHC

We perform a forecast of the MSSM with universal soft terms (CMSSM) for the LHC, based on an improved Bayesian analysis. We do not incorporate ad hoc measures of the fine-tuning to penalize unnatural possibilities: such penalization arises from the Bayesian analysis itself when the experimental value of $M_Z$ is considered. This allows to scan the whole parameter space, allowing arbitrarily large soft terms. Still the low-energy region is statistically favoured (even before including dark matter or g-2 constraints). Contrary to other studies, the results are almost unaffected by changing the upper limits taken for the soft terms. The results are also remarkable stable when using flat or logarithmic priors, a fact that arises from the larger statistical weight of the low-energy region in both cases. Then we incorporate all the important experimental constrains to the analysis, obtaining a map of the probability density of the MSSM parameter space, i.e. the forecast of the MSSM. Since not all the experimental information is equally robust, we perform separate analyses depending on the group of observables used. When only the most robust ones are used, the favoured region of the parameter space contains a significant portion outside the LHC reach. This effect gets reinforced if the Higgs mass is not close to its present experimental limit and persits when dark matter constraints are included. Only when the g-2 constraint (based on $e^+e^-$ data) is considered, the preferred region (for $\mu>0$) is well inside the LHC scope. The health of SUSY after the Higgs discovery and the XENON100 data

We analyze the implications for the status and prospects of supersymmetry of the Higgs discovery and the last XENON data. We focus mainly, but not only, on the CMSSM and NUHM models. Using a Bayesian approach we determine the distribution of probability in the parameter space of these scenarios. This shows that, most probably, they are now beyond the LHC reach . This negative chances increase further (at more than 95% c.l.) if one includes dark matter constraints in the analysis, in particular the last XENON100 data. However, the models would be probed completely by XENON1T. The mass of the LSP neutralino gets essentially fixed around 1 TeV. We do not incorporate ad hoc measures of the fine-tuning to penalize unnatural possibilities: such penalization arises automatically from the careful Bayesian analysis itself, and allows to scan the whole parameter space. In this way, we can explain and resolve the apparent discrepancies between the previous results in the literature. Although SUSY has become hard to detect at LHC, this does not necessarily mean that is very fine-tuned. We use Bayesian techniques to show the experimental Higgs mass is at $\sim 2\ \sigma$ off the CMSSM or NUHM expectation. This is substantial but not dramatic. Although the CMSSM or the NUHM are unlikely to show up at the LHC, they are still interesting and plausible models after the Higgs observation; and, if they are true, the chances of discovering them in future dark matter experiments are quite high

Reducing the fine-tuning of gauge-mediated SUSY breaking

Despite their appealing features, models with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking (GMSB) typically present a high degree of fine-tuning, due to the initial absence of the top trilinear scalar couplings, $A_t=0$. In this paper, we carefully evaluate such a tuning, showing that is worse than per mil in the minimal model. Then, we examine some existing proposals to generate $A_t\neq 0$ term in this context. We find that, although the stops can be made lighter, usually the tuning does not improve (it may be even worse), with some exceptions, which involve the generation of $A_t$ at one loop or tree level. We examine both possibilities and propose a conceptually simplified version of the latter; which is arguably the optimum GMSB setup (with minimal matter content), concerning the fine-tuning issue. The resulting fine-tuning is better than one per mil, still severe but similar to other minimal supersymmetric standard model constructions. We also explore the so-called "little $A_t^2/m^2$ problem", i.e. the fact that a large $A_t$-term is normally accompanied by a similar or larger sfermion mass, which typically implies an increase in the fine-tuning. Finally, we find the version of GMSB for which this ratio is optimized, which, nevertheless, does not minimize the fine-tuning.Comment: 16 pages, 11 figures, 1 appendix. The Perception of the Inmates of the National Police Penitentiary Center about the Defense of the Lawyers and Advices for Improving the Service from the Senior Management.

El sistema penal aplicable a los miembros de la Policía está a cargo de la Justicia Ordinaria y de la Justicia Penal Militar, dependiendo de la clasificación que les da las primeras autoridades que conocen del caso, si es un delito relacionado con el servicio la competencia radica en la Penal Militar y si es un hecho que no tiene relación con el servicio, la competencia seria de la Ordinaria. La autoridad una vez tiene suficientes indicios puede emitir una orden de captura contra el uniformado quedando privado de la libertad en una cárcel. La Policía tiene una cárcel especial cuyo nombre es el Centro Penitenciario para Miembros de la Policía Nacional ubicado en el municipio de Facatativá, es allí donde se ubica la población objeto de este estudio. El policía una vez es vinculado al proceso penal contrata los servicios de un abogado para recuperar su libertad, quien es la persona que dirige la defensa técnica. El objeto de esta investigación es averiguar la percepción que tienen los internos sobre el servicio de los abogados; para ello se plantearon dos hipótesis de investigación, la primera relacionada con la necesidad de implementar algunos de los conocimientos de la alta gerencia para ofrecer un mejor servicio y la segunda que tiene que ver con el comportamiento del cliente a la hora de elegir su defensa; para verificar tal situación dentro de la investigación utilice el método descriptivo y un instrumento encuesta con una escala tipo Likert, donde se redactaron una serie de muestras agrupadas en seis variables. Analizando los resultados encontramos que tres de las variables fueron evaluadas con aceptable: Ética, Calidad y Costos y están relacionadas directamente con la primera hipótesis de investigación, lo que me permite confirmarla; la solución que se plantea es que se deben realizar acciones para mejorar el servicio de los abogados con la implementación de herramientas ofrecidas por la alta gerencia y que están en el plan de estudios de la Especialización, existe la necesidad de que los abogados realicen cambios integrales en la forma como abarcan la defensa, implementando sistemas y métodos, que dejen una percepción en sus clientes de humanismo, diligencia, ética, profesionalismo y garanticen un mínimo de calidad. En cuanto a la variable Elección del Producto, se ubicó dentro del rango de aceptable, por ello es necesario que los directivos implementen programas de instrucción y asesoría al personal. La variable Derechos, está en el rango de bueno, pero la parte relacionada con los servicios de defensoría pública y de oficio, se ubica en el rango deficiente, por lo cual sugiero que es deber de los directivos fortalecer ese tipo de servicios, que garanticen la mejor defensa sin que los procesados tengan que sacrificar su estabilidad económica. El rango de Bueno para la variable marco proactivo, muestra que las personas están comprometidas y quieren cooperar en la solución de sus problemas jurídicos.The penal system applicable to members of the Police is in charge of the regular courts and the Military Criminal Justice, depending on the classification that gives the first known case authorities, If an offense relating to the service the competition lies in the Military Penal and whether it is a fact that has no relation to the service, the competition would be of the Ordinary. The authority has sufficient evidence once may issue a warrant for the arrest of a uniformed being private of freedom in a prison. The police have a special prison whose name is the National Police Penitentiary Center in the municipality of Facatativá, which is where the population under study is located. The police once criminal proceedings are linked to hire the services of a lawyer to regain his freedom; he is the person who leads a defense. The purpose of this research is to find out the perception of the inmates about the service of lawyers; two hypotheses for this research were raised, the first related to the need to implement some of the knowledge of senior management to provide better service and the second is according to customer behavior when choosing their defense. To verify this situation within research use descriptive method and survey instrument with a Likert-type scale, where a series of samples grouped into six variables were drafted, analyzing the results we found that three variables were evaluated with acceptable: Ethical Framework, Quality and Costs, they are directly related to the first research hypothesis, which allows me to confirm. The solution arises as to perform actions to improve the service of lawyers with the implementation of tools offered by senior management and it is in the curriculum of the specialization. There is a need for lawyers made comprehensive changes in the way include defense, implementing systems and methods that let a customer perception of care, ethics, professionalism and guarantee a minimum quality. As for the variable Election Product was within the acceptable range, consequently it is necessary that managers implement instructional programs and counseling staff. The Rights variable is in the range of good, but the part related to the services of public defenders and trade, it is located in the deficient range, therefore, I suggest that it is the duty of the directors to strengthen such services, to ensure the best defense without that the accused have to sacrifice their economic stability. Good range of proactive framework for variable shows that people are engaged and they want to cooperate in resolving their legal problems
