The Cosmic Microwave Background Spectrum and a Determination of Fractal Space Dimensionality

The possibility to constrain fractal space dimensionality from Astrophysics and other areas is briefly reviewed. Assuming such dimensionality to be 3+ϵ3 + \epsilon, a limit to ϵ\epsilon can be inferred from COBE satellite data. The available data for the cosmic microwave background radiation spectrum are fitted by a Planck's radiation distribution generalized to non integer space dimensionality. Our analysis shows that the shape of the CMBR spectrum, which does not depend on the absolute normalization, is correctly described from this distribution provided the absolute temperature is equal to 2.726 ±\pm 0.003×10−20.003\times 10^{-2} K and ϵ=−(0.957±0.006)×10−5\epsilon = - (0.957 \pm 0.006) \times 10^{-5}. This value for ϵ\epsilon is shown to be consistent with what is found on a very different spatial scale based on a quantum field phenomenon. The ∣ϵ∣|\epsilon| is interpreted as an upper limit for how much space dimensionality could have deviated from three. In other words, this is the maximum fluctuation space dimensionality should have experienced in a spatial and temporal scale compared to that of the decoupling era.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figure

A blast of mistakes: undiagnosed cervical ppondylolisthesis following a bomb explosion

    Get PDF
Background: A case of spinal trauma had an unusual clinical course due to medical mistakes, from which we can learn some important lessons. Case Report: We report a case of spondylolisthesis following a bomb explosion, which went undiagnosed for a long time because of a series of mistakes that are highlighted in this article. What makes this case unique is that the spondylolisthesis developed during hospital stay, but the patient had no loss of mobility, strength, or sensitivity. Conclusions: This case shows that establishing the conditions of an organ or a body part upon admission to hospital may not be enough when a patient has suffered extensive and serious trauma, and that it is necessary to carry out more checkups over time, especially if there are new clues and symptoms

Investigation of discrete component chip mounting technology for hybrid microelectronic circuits

    Get PDF
The use of polymer adhesives for high reliability microcircuit applications is a radical deviation from past practices in electronic packaging. Bonding studies were performed using two gold-filled conductive adhesives, 10/90 tin/lead solder and Indalloy no. 7 solder. Various types of discrete components were mounted on ceramic substrates using both thick-film and thin-film metallization. Electrical and mechanical testing were performed on the samples before and after environmental exposure to MIL-STD-883 screening tests

Development of a container for handling, testing, and storing discrete microelectronic components

    Get PDF
A container has been developed for handling, testing, burning-in, and storing discrete microelectronic components without removal from the protective package. The package was designed to accommodate the leadless inverted device and other carrier-mounted active devices and chip-type discrete resistors and capacitors. Before the indicated development, components were handled and tested in various ways, some of which resulted in damage or contamination. The basic design of the container utilizes precision machined printed circuit boards and chemically milled (photoetched) contact springs. Included in this design for protection is an O-ring-sealed cover. Methods of fabrication and limitations of the current hardware are presented. Current applications of and possible extensions to the technology are discussed

Effects on the Non-Relativistic Dynamics of a Charged Particle Interacting with a Chern-Simons Potential

The hydrogen atom in two dimensions, described by a Schr\"odinger equation with a Chern-Simons potential, is numerically solved. Both its wave functions and eigenvalues were determined for small values of the principal quantum number nn. The only possible states correspond to l=0l=0. How the result depends on the topological mass of the photon is also discussed. In the case n=1n=1, the energy of the fundamental state corresponding to different choice for the photon mass scale are found to be comprehended in the interval −3,5×10−3eV≤E≤−9,0×10−2eV-3,5 \times 10^{-3} eV \leq E \leq -9,0 \times 10^{-2} eV, corresponding to a mean radius of the electron in the range (5.637±0.005)×10−8 (5.637 \pm 0.005) \times 10^{-8}~cm ≤≤(48.87±0.03)×10−8\leq \leq (48.87 \pm 0.03) \times 10^{-8}~cm. In any case, the planar atom is found to be very weekly bounded showing some features similar to the Rydberg atoms in three dimensions with a Coulombian interaction.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure

Pre-test analysis of protected loss of primary pump transients in CIRCE-HERO facility

In the frame of LEADER project (Lead-cooled European Advanced Demonstration Reactor), a new configuration of the steam generator for ALFRED (Advanced Lead Fast Reactor European Demonstrator) was proposed. The new concept is a super-heated steam generator, double wall bayonet tube type with leakage monitoring [1]. In order to support the new steam generator concept, in the framework of Horizon 2020 SESAME project (thermal hydraulics Simulations and Experiments for the Safety Assessment of MEtal cooled reactors), the ENEA CIRCE pool facility will be refurbished to host the HERO (Heavy liquid mEtal pRessurized water cOoled tubes) test section to investigate a bundle of seven full scale bayonet tubes in ALFRED-like thermal hydraulics conditions. The aim of this work is to verify thermofluid dynamic performance of HERO during the transition from nominal to natural circulation condition. The simulations have been performed with RELAP5-3D© by using the validated geometrical model of the previous CIRCE-ICE test section [2], in which the preceding heat exchanger has been replaced by the new bayonet bundle model. Several calculations have been carried out to identify thermal hydraulics performance in different steady state conditions. The previous calculations represent the starting points of transient tests aimed at investigating the operation in natural circulation. The transient tests consist of the protected loss of primary pump, obtained by reducing feed-water mass flow to simulate the activation of DHR (Decay Heat Removal) system, and of the loss of DHR function in hot conditions, where feed-water mass flow rate is absent. According to simulations, in nominal conditions, HERO bayonet bundle offers excellent thermal hydraulic behavior and, moreover, it allows the operation in natural circulation
