    Frequency and phase modulation performance of an injection-locked CW magnetron.

    Get PDF
    It is demonstrated that the output of a 2.45-GHz magnetron operated as a current-controlled oscillator through its pushing characteristic can lock to injection signals in times of the order of 100-500 ns depending on injection power, magnetron heater power, load impedance, and frequency offset of the injection frequency from the natural frequency of the magnetron. Accordingly, the magnetron can follow frequency and phase modulations of the injection signal, behaving as a narrow-band amplifier. The transmission of phase-shift-keyed data at 2 Mb/s has been achieved. Measurements of the frequency response and anode current after a switch of phase as a function of average anode current and heater power give new insight into the locking mechanisms and the noise characteristics of magnetrons

    A Systematic Investigation of Light Heavy-Ion Reactions

    We introduce a novel coupling potential for the scattering of deformed light heavy-ion reactions. This new approach is based on replacing the usual first-derivative coupling potential by a new, second derivative coupling potential in the coupled-channels formalism. The new approach has been successfully applied to the study of the 12^{12}C+12^{12}C, 12^{12}C+24^{24}Mg, 16^{16}O+28^{28}Si and 16^{16}O+24^{24}Mg systems and made major improvements over all the previous coupled-channels calculations for these systems. This paper also shows the limitations of the standard coupled-channels theory and presents a global solution to the problems faced in the previous theoretical accounts of these reactions.Comment: 7 pages with 4 figure

    Generalized Smarr relation for Kerr AdS black holes from improved surface integrals

    Full text link
    By using suitably improved surface integrals, we give a unified geometric derivation of the generalized Smarr relation for higher dimensional Kerr black holes which is valid both in flat and in anti-de Sitter backgrounds. The improvement of the surface integrals, which allows one to use them simultaneously at infinity and on the horizon, consists in integrating them along a path in solution space. Path independence of the improved charges is discussed and explicitly proved for the higher dimensional Kerr AdS black holes. It is also shown that the charges for these black holes can be correctly computed from the standard Hamiltonian or Lagrangian surface integrals.Comment: 21 pages Latex file, 1 figure; discussion on integrability rectified, typo in (2.14) correcte

    CP Violation and Lifetime Differences of Neutral B Mesons from Correlated B^0-B^0bar Pairs

    Full text link
    We present a technique to determine the CP violating phases, as well as, the lifetime differences of the mass eigenstates for both BdB_d and BsB_s, by considering correlated BBˉB\bar{B} pairs produced at the Υ\Upsilon resonances. We do not require a detailed time dependent study, but only partial time integrated rates, with the tag time, either preceding or following the decay of the other BB meson to a final state f. f may be a CP eigenstate or a non-CP eigenstate.Comment: 11 Pages Revte

    The effect of geometry on charge confinement in three dimensions

    Get PDF
    We show that, in contrast to the flat case, the Maxwell theory is not confining in the background of the three dimensional BTZ black-hole (covering space). We also study the effect of the curvature on screening behavior of Maxwell-Chern-Simons model in this space-time.Comment: 8 pages. To be published in Europhysics Letter

    Effects of Possible ΔB=ΔQ\Delta B =- \Delta Q Transitions in Neutral BB Meson Decays}

    Full text link
    We explore the possibility that the existing data on like-sign dileptons at the Υ(4S)\Upsilon (4S) resonance consist of events arising from Bd0Bˉd0B_{d}^0 -\bar B_{d}^0 mixing and also from ΔB=ΔQ\Delta B = - \Delta Q transitions. The consequences of these nonstandard transitions for certain time-asymmetries which are likely to be measured at the BB factories are studied.Comment: {\LARGE \bf 10 pages, no figures, process using latex, TIFR/TH/93-5
