Status report of the ANTARES project

The ANTARES project aims at the construction of an underwater neutrino telescope at the scale of 0.1 km^2 2400 m deep in the Mediterranean Sea. After a 4-year R&D program, the ANTARES project has entered the construction phase which will be concluded by the end of 2004. The current status of the project is reported.Comment: 3 pages, 2 figures. to appear in Proc. of TAUP2001 conference, Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso, Sept. 200

Regularity of solutions to a fractional elliptic problem with mixed Dirichlet-Neumann boundary data

In this work we study regularity properties of solutions to fractional elliptic problems with mixed Dirichlet-Neumann boundary data when dealing with the Spectral Fractional Laplacian

Chiral transition and deconfinement in N_f = 2 QCD

The transition is studied by means of a disorder parameter detecting condensation of magnetic monopoles in the vacuum. The deconfining transition is found to coincide with the chiral transition and the susceptibility \rho, related to the disorder parameter, is consistent with a first order phase transition.Comment: 3 pages, 2 figures. Poster presented at Lattice2004(topology), Fermilab, June 21-26, 200

Color confinement and dual superconductivity in full QCD

    Get PDF
We report on evidence that confinement is related to dual superconductivity of the vacuum in full QCD, as in quenched QCD. The vacuum is a dual superconductor in the confining phase, whilst the U(1) magnetic symmetry is realized a la Wigner in the deconfined phase.Comment: 4 pages, 4 eps figure

Magnetic charge superselection in the deconfined phase of Yang-Mills theory

The vacuum expectation value of an operator carrying magnetic charge is studied numerically for temperatures above the deconfinement temperature in SU(2) and SU(3) gauge theory. By analyzing its finite size behaviour, this is found to be exactly zero in the thermodynamical limit for any T > T_c whenever the magnetic charge of the operator is different from zero. These results show that magnetic charge is superselected in the hot phase of quenched QCD.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figures, revtex

Adaptation “in the Wild”: Ontology-Based Personalization of Open-Corpus Learning Material

    Get PDF
Abstract. Teacher and students can use WWW as a limitless source of learning material for nearly any subject. Yet, such abundance of content comes with the problem of finding the right piece at the right time. Conventional adaptive educational systems cannot support personalized access to open-corpus learning material as they rely on manually constructed content models. This paper presents an approach to this problem that does not require intervention from a human expert. The approach has been implemented in an adaptive system that recommends students supplementary reading material and adaptively annotates it. The results of the evaluation experiment have demonstrated several significant effects of using the system on students ’ learning

Dual Superconductivity and Chiral Symmetry in Full QCD

A disorder parameter detecting dual superconductivity of the vacuum is measured across the chiral phase transition in full QCD with two flavours of dynamical staggered fermions. The observed behaviour is similar to the quenched case.Comment: Lattice2001(confinement) proceedings, 3 pages, 2 eps figure
