T-duality and α′-corrections
We construct an O(d, d) invariant universal formulation of the first-order alpha-prime-corrections of the string effective actions involving the dilaton, metric and two-form fields. Two free parameters interpolate between four-derivative terms that are even and odd with respect to a Z 2-parity transformation that changes the sign of the two-form field. The Z 2-symmetric model reproduces the closed bosonic string, and the heterotic string effective action is obtained through a Z 2-parity-breaking choice of parameters. The theory is an extension of the generalized frame formulation of Double Field Theory, in which the gauge transformations are deformed by a first-order generalized Green-Schwarz transformation. This deformation defines a duality covariant gauge principle that requires and fixes the four-derivative terms. We discuss the O(d, d) structure of the theory and the (non-)covariance of the required field redefinitions.Fil: Marques, Diego. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciónes Científicas y Técnicas. New non-perturbative de Sitter vacua in α′-complete cosmology
The α′-complete cosmology developed by Hohm and Zwiebach classifies the O(d, d; ℝ) invariant theories involving metric, b-field and dilaton that only depend on time, to all orders in α′. Some of these theories feature non-perturbative isotropic de Sitter vacua in the string frame, generated by the infinite number of higher-derivatives of O(d, d; ℝ) multiplets. Extending the isotropic ansatz, we construct stable and unstable non-perturbative de Sitter solutions in the string and Einstein frames. The generalized equations of motion admit new solutions, including anisotropic d + 1-dimensional metrics and non-vanishing b-field. In particular, we find dSn+1× Td−n geometries with constant dilaton, and also metrics with bounded scale factors in the spatial dimensions with non-trivial b-field. We discuss the stability and non-perturbative character of the solutions, as well as possible applications.Fil: Nuñez, Carmen Alicia. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Uniform stability and chaotic dynamics in nonhomogeneous linear dissipative scalar ordinary differential equations
The paper analyzes the structure and the inner long-term dynamics of the
invariant compact sets for the skewproduct flow induced by a family of
time-dependent ordinary differential equations of nonhomogeneous linear
dissipative type. The main assumptions are made on the dissipative term and on
the homogeneous linear term of the equations. The rich casuistic includes the
uniform stability of the invariant compact sets, as well as the presence of
Li-Yorke chaos and Auslander-Yorke chaos inside the attractor
β Symmetry of Supergravity
Continuous O(d,d) global symmetries emerge in Kaluza-Klein reductions of D-dimensional string supergravities to D-d dimensions. We show that the nongeometric elements of this group effectively act in the D-dimensional parent theory as a hidden bosonic symmetry that fixes its couplings: the β symmetry. We give the explicit β transformations to first order in α′ and verify the invariance of the action as well as the closure of the transformation rules.Fil: Baron, Walter Helmut. Security and privacy issues in implantable medical devices: A comprehensive survey
Bioengineering is a field in expansion. New technologies are appearing to provide a more efficient treatment of diseases or human deficiencies. Implantable Medical Devices (IMDs) constitute one example, these being devices with more computing, decision making and communication capabilities. Several research works in the computer security field have identified serious security and privacy risks in IMDs that could compromise the implant and even the health of the patient who carries it. This article surveys the main security goals for the next generation of IMDs and analyzes the most relevant protection mechanisms proposed so far. On the one hand, the security proposals must have into consideration the inherent constraints of these small and implanted devices: energy, storage and computing power. On the other hand, proposed solutions must achieve an adequate balance between the safety of the patient and the security level offered, with the battery lifetime being another critical parameter in the design phase
Supersymmetry, T-duality and heterotic α′-corrections
Higher-derivative interactions and transformation rules of the fields in the effective field theories of the massless string states are strongly constrained by space-time symmetries and dualities. Here we use an exact formulation of ten dimensional N = 1 supergravity coupled to Yang-Mills with manifest T-duality symmetry to construct the first order α′-corrections of the heterotic string effective action. The theory contains a supersymmetric and T-duality covariant generalization of the Green-Schwarz mechanism that determines the modifications to the leading order supersymmetry transformation rules of the fields. We compute the resulting field-dependent deformations of the coefficients in the supersymmetry algebra and construct the invariant action, with up to and including four-derivative terms of all the massless bosonic and fermionic fields of the heterotic string spectrum.Fil: Lescano, Eric Yair.
