Application of an Equilibrium Vaporization Model to the Ablation of Chondritic and Achondritic Meteoroids
We modeled equilibrium vaporization of chondritic and achondritic materials
using the MAGMA code. We calculated both instantaneous and integrated element
abundances of Na, Mg, Ca, Al, Fe, Si, Ti, and K in chondritic and achondritic
meteors. Our results are qualitatively consistent with observations of meteor

Towards W b bbar + j at NLO with an automatized approach to one-loop computations
We present results for the O(alpha_s) virtual corrections to q g -> W b bbar
q' obtained with a new automatized approach to the evaluation of one-loop
amplitudes in terms of Feynman diagrams. Together with the O(alpha_s)
corrections to q q' -> W b bbar g, which can be obtained from our results by
crossing symmetry, this represents the bulk of the next-to-leading order
virtual QCD corrections to W b bbar + j and W b + j hadronic production,
calculated in a fixed-flavor scheme with four light flavors. Furthermore, these
corrections represent a well defined and independent subset of the 1-loop
amplitudes needed for the NNLO calculation of W b bbar. Our approach was tested
against several existing results for NLO amplitudes including selected
O(alpha_s) one-loop corrections to W + 3 j hadronic production. We discuss the
efficiency of our method both with respect to evaluation time and numerical

A Near-Infrared Stellar Census of the Blue Compact Dwarf Galaxy VII~Zw~403
We present near-infrared single-star photometry for the low-metallicity Blue
Compact Dwarf galaxy VII~Zw~403. We achieve limiting magnitudes of
F110W~~25.5 and F160W~~24.5 using one of the NICMOS cameras
with the HST equivalents of the ground-based J and H filters. The data have a
high photometric precision (0.1 mag) and are % complete down to magnitudes
of about 23, far deeper than previous ground-based studies in the near-IR. The
color-magnitude diagram contains about 1000 point sources. We provide a

The effects of breastfeeding on childhood BMI: a propensity score matching approach
BACKGROUND: Many studies have found a statistical association between breastfeeding and childhood adiposity. This paper investigates whether breastfeeding has an effect on subsequent childhood body mass index (BMI) using propensity scores to account for confounding. METHODS: We use data from the Millennium Cohort Study, a nationally representative UK cohort survey, which contains detailed information on infant feeding and childhood BMI. Propensity score matching is used to investigate the mean BMI in children breastfed exclusively and partially for different durations of time. RESULTS: We find statistically significant influences of breastfeeding on childhood BMI, particularly in older children, when breastfeeding is prolonged and exclusive. At 7 years, children who were exclusively breastfed for 16 weeks had a BMI 0.28 kg/m 2 (95% confidence interval 0.07 to 0.49) lower than those who were never breastfed, a 2% reduction from the mean BMI of 16.6 kg/m 2 . CONCLUSIONS: For this young cohort, even small effects of breastfeeding on BMI could be important. In order to reduce BMI, breastfeeding should be encouraged as part of wider lifestyle intervention. Propagation of Parkinson's disease by extracellular vesicle production and secretion
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative condition affecting a significant number of individuals globally, resulting in the presentation of debilitating motor and non-motor symptoms, including bradykinesia, resting tremor, as well as mood and sleep disorders. The pathology of PD has been observed to spread through the central nervous system resulting in progressive brain degeneration and a poor prognosis. Aggregated forms of the protein Ī±-synuclein, particularly intermediary aggregates, referred to as oligomers, or preformed fibrils, have been implicated as the causative agent in the degeneration of neuronal processes, including the dysfunction of axonal transport, mitochondrial activity, and ultimately cellular death. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been strongly implicated in the propagation of PD pathology. Current observations suggest that aggregated Ī±-synuclein is transported between neurons via small EVs in a series of exocytosis and endocytosis cellular processes leading to the observed spread of neurotoxicity and cellular death. Despite some understanding of the role of EVs in neurodegeneration, the exact mechanism by which these lipidic particles participate in the progression of Parkinson's pathology is not entirely understood. Here we review the current understanding of the role of EVs in the propagation of PD and explore their potential as a therapeutic target
