Normas y valores de los jóvenes en el Mediterráneo árabe: un análisis de género

This article reflects on the changes and continuities in the cultural values and norms of young men and women with regard to gender relations and roles in five Arab Mediterranean countries: Algeria, Morocco, Lebanon, Tunisia and Egypt. To do this, attention is given to the processes and practices of cultural innovation that have arisen among the region’s generations of young people since the 2011 uprisings. The empirical analysis is based on qualitative and quantitative data gathered through the multi-sited ethnographic fieldwork and international survey of the SAHWA research project. The analysis reveals young people who are social actors able to confront structural limitations and mechanisms of exclusion; at the same time, it describes the distinct way young men and women in the region inhabit the ambivalent condition of “waithood"

Bangladeshi Migrant Associations in Italy: Transnational Engagement, Community Formation and Regional Unity

Referring to the case studies of two cities in Northern Italy, this article seeks to understand how Bangladeshi migrants use associations to seek transnational \u201cways of belonging\u201d and \u201cways of being\u201d. It analyses how this transnational attachment to their home country has played an important role in building their own \u201ccommunity\u201d. The findings reveal that Bangladeshi migrant organizations work to maintain \u201ctransnational ways of belonging\u201d by enabling migrants to retain their cultural roots; this is reflected in their observation of festivals, national days, and other practices and rituals. Although, as a relatively new migrant community, they do not share as many economic links through these associations as many other \u201cdiasporic\u201d organizations, migrants widely express a sense that these economic connections are with their country of origin. However, there is competition within the community based on regional origin, as well as have many ambivalences and contradictions

Axel Honneth e la sociologia contemporanea : un’affinità quasi elettiva

The paper aims to investigate the impact of Axel Honneth’s work – in particular his theory of recognition – within sociology. After indicating the sociological elements of his theoretical proposal and comparing some current discussions, the paper sketches out the main empirical applications of the theory of recognition: contemporary identitarian configurations, the social exclusion of minority groups, social movements, intercultural relations and the changes in the world of work in late modern society. In the final part, the paper highlights some developments in contemporary sociological theory that could limit the sociological reception of Honneth’s work

Giovani in transizione. Una lettura generazionale dei concetti di mobilità, migrazione e turismo

The importance of reflexivity in social sciences is now undisputed. Various sociological and philosophical perspectives have pointed out the impossibility of the objective character of knowledge. Hence, social sciences categories need to be investigated questioning both researcher’s gaze and involvement in his/her empirical field, and research practices. The aim is shedding light on the process of knowledge and common sense construction. This new epistemological consciousness is particularly urgent above all in the light of the rapid pace of social and cultural change in global societies. We urgently need to perfect our theoretical and empirical tool-kit for tackling the spatial movement of contemporary social actors. The aim of my paper is to shed light on categories like migration, mobility and tourism from a ‘generational perspective’. Starting from the results of recent qualitative study on contemporary youth condition and the role that geographical mobility plays in young people’s transition to adulthood, my paper sets out to explore the categories of migration, mobility and tourism.Come noto, la riflessività della conoscenza è al cuore di molte analisi che hanno attraversato la storia delle idee a partire dalla metà del XX secolo. Da più prospettive è stata sottolineata l’impossibilità del carattere oggettivo della scienza. In questa cornice, risulta quindi cruciale problematizzare le categorie attorno alle quali si è costituita e si riproduce una disciplina, interrogandosi sulle pratiche di ricerca nonché sullo sguardo del ricercatore e della ricercatrice e sul suo coinvolgimento nel campo che intende studiare, con l’obiettivo di mettere a fuoco i processi di costruzione della conoscenza scientifica e di senso-comune. Questa nuova consapevolezza epistemologica sembra particolarmente urgente di fronte alla rapidità del cambiamento sociale e culturale che caratterizza le società globali. Se è vero che non c’è epoca come quella contemporanea, in cui si riscontrano i più alti tassi di movimento degli attori sociali, affinare il tool-kit teorico relativo al movimento dei soggetti della contemporaneità sembra un’operazione più che necessaria. Obiettivo del saggio è riflettere sui concetti di migrazione, mobilità e turismo e sui loro confini semantici, attraverso un’ottica generazionale. Attingendo da un recente percorso di ricerca di tipo qualitativo sulla condizione giovanile contemporanea e sulle forme che assume la transizione alla vita adulta dei giovani – in particolare di quelle biografie attraversate dal movimento geografico verso l’estero -, il saggio appunta la propria attenzione sui processi di decostruzione cui sono soggette le categorie di migrazione, mobilità e turismo alla luce delle esperienze di movimento delle giovani generazioni

Il tessuto sociale

In questo capitolo dedicato al tessuto sociale si individuano i cambiamenti che hanno maggiormente interessato la società bergamasca negli ultimi decenni. A tal fine, si riflette su alcune tendenze in atto e si circoscrivono gli aspetti che appaiono più rilevanti, quali le trasformazioni della famiglia, il suo rapporto con il mondo economico ed imprenditoriale nonché il ruolo che l’associazionismo assume sul territorio. Le riflessioni riportate si basano su una serie di informazioni e dati ricavati da indagini realizzate negli ultimi anni da enti e istituzioni del territorio, finalizzate all’approfondimento dei nodi critici caratterizzanti la provincia di Bergamo.
