    Exploring consumer behaviour in the Saskatoon area at the turn of the twentieth century.

    In 1881, an Ontario-based group known as the Temperance Colonization Society began looking towards the Canadian West with a speculative eye. Interested in acquiring tracts of land from the Canadian Government, the Temperance Colonization Society hoped to one day establish a new colony free from the temptations of alcohol and the troubles associated with older colonies. By 1884, a settlement was established along the south shore of the South Saskatchewan River. This was the beginning of Saskatoon. As Saskatoon grew from a small settlement founded on temperance ideals to a recognized municipal corporation, the meaning of the material culture associated with this transition also changed. Two archaeological sites pertaining to this transition, the Marr Residence at 326 11th Street East (FaNp-5) and the 11th Street Privy site (FaNp-31), currently comprise the only excavated privy assemblages in the city and hold rich potential for shedding light on urban consumption behaviour at the turn of the 20th century. This study will analyze the archaeological assemblages recovered from these excavations under the scope of consumer behaviour. By orienting the essence of this study towards an archaeology of consumerism, information regarding the dimensions of everyday life in the Saskatoon area at the turn of the 20th Century can be ascertained

    A SURVEY ON COMMON ERRORS IN STUDYING SPEAKING SKILL OF ENGLISH-MAJORED FRESHMEN AT TAY DO UNIVERSITY, VIETNAM

    Speaking is regarded as the most important aspect of communication skills, and it contributes to the success of language learners in their studies and careers, as well as the success of teachers in their teaching process. However, English-majored students, especially English-majored freshmen, usually face some errors in speaking English. Consequently, this research, entitled "A Survey on Common Errors in Studying Speaking Skills of English-majored Freshmen at Tay Do University" was conducted to figure out some common problems in speaking English that these English-majored students have encountered. The participants of this research were 80 students from two classes, English 15A and English 15B, at Tay Do University. The main research instrument for collecting the data was a questionnaire. The findings of this research pointed out the participants’ errors in speaking skills problems (pronunciation, grammar tense, pronunciation, mother tongue, vocabulary) and psychological problems (anxiety of error, lack of motivation, shyness, lack of confidence). The results showed that the students had errors in their speaking skills. Thanks to the results, some useful solutions were proposed for English-majored students.  Article visualizations

    Forms and Factors Affecting Collective Adaptation to Saline Intrusion: A case of Kien Giang Province, Vietnam

    Saline intrusion (SI) is causing serious risks for agriculture and coastal life in the Vietnamese Mekong Delta. Maintaining agricultural production under that challenging condition places more tremendous pressure on rural societies. This study aimed to get insight into adaptive adaptation's forms and factors influencing farmers' participation process by applying the social and ecological approach. The research was conducted in An Bien district, Kien Giang province, a province in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. A mixed-method integrating quantitative and qualitative methods were used to collect data using key informant panel interviews, group discussion, and household survey. The results showed that local farmers had changed the farming system from double rice crops to shrimp-rice models to deal with the impacts of SI. Group response has emerged as the appropriate adaption in both formal and informal forms. The adaptive group plays an essential role in connecting community members, and two forms of adaptation have worked closely to adapt to SI. Factors affecting the informal group related to relatives, households living close to each other; For the formal group, the main factor affecting participation is when joining the group, the members receive benefits from the group. Besides, prestige and having a lot of experience in the leader's production activities affect the official group participation.     Factors Affecting the Agricultural Restructuration: A Case of Cham Community in Chau Phu District, An Giang Province, Vietnam

    The national policy of agricultural restructuring plays a vital role in adapting to climate change's effects and economic development in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam. Unproductive areas have been converted into other crops with higher efficiency. Drawn by the sustainable livelihoods approach, this article explores the current situation and factors challenging the Cham community in implementing the agricultural restructuring. The mixed method included in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and a questionnaire survey. The results showed that the Xuong Com Vang longan (Dimocarpus longan) variety has occurred in Khanh Hoa commune for a long time as an indigenous fruit tree of this area. In terms of the farming system, the polyculture system combining fruit trees and upland crops brought more income sources than the monoculture system. The asset abilities of the Cham farmers are various from one to the others. Soil and weather conditions are appropriate for planting. But farm size is small, which is one of the difficulties of developing fruit areas. Human and social assets were good since farmers had enough knowledge to manage the gardens, and a close connection existed among the Cham community. It was not a case of the financial status since a lot of money needs to be invested in the starting year. Therefore, the private loan still exists as one of the farmer's choices. For better future development, land management and financial resource should be considered for better agricultural restructuring aims. To increase farmers' incomes, create production chains helping enterprises and farmers work more efficiently for the better life of Cham gardeners in An Giang province in Vietnam

    Revisiting conventional noncovalent interactions towards a complete understanding: from tetrel to pnicogen, chalcogen, and halogen bond

    Typical noncovalent interactions, including tetrel (TtB), pnicogen (PniB), chalcogen (ChalB), and halogen bonds (HalB), were systematically re-investigated by modeling the N⋯Z interactions (Z = Si, P, S, Cl) between NH3_3 – as a nucleophilic, and SiF4_4, PF3_3, SF2_2, and ClF – as electrophilic components, employing highly reliable ab initio methods. The characteristics of N⋯Z interactions when Z goes from Si to Cl, were examined through their changes in stability, vibrational spectroscopy, electron density, and natural orbital analyses. The binding energies of these complexes at CCSD(T)/CBS indicate that NH3_3 tends to hold tightly most with ClF (−34.7 kJ mol−1^{−1}) and SiF4_4 (−23.7 kJ mol−1^{−1}) to form N⋯Cl HalB and N⋯Si TtB, respectively. Remarkably, the interaction energies obtained from various approaches imply that the strength of these noncovalent interactions follows the order: N⋯Si TtB > N⋯Cl HalB > N⋯S ChalB > N⋯P PniB, that differs the order of their corresponding complex stability. The conventional N⋯Z noncovalent interactions are characterized by the local vibrational frequencies of 351, 126, 167, and 261 cm−1^{−1} for TtB, PniB, ChalB, and HalB, respectively. The SAPT2+(3)dMP2 calculations demonstrate that the primary force controlling their strength retains the electrostatic term. Accompanied by the stronger strength of N⋯Si TtB and N⋯Cl HalB, the AIM and NBO results state that they are partly covalent in nature with amounts of 18.57% and 27.53%, respectively. Among various analysis approaches, the force constant of the local N⋯Z stretching vibration is shown to be most accurate in describing the noncovalent interactions

    The mediating role of passion in entrepreneurship intention: Identity centrality and role models increase passion

    Entrepreneurial passion is the key to starting a business. Passion motivates desire so that entrepreneurs strive to achieve success. Passion is not only the experience of intense emotions but also a part of identity centrality. On the other hand, an individual’s entrepreneurial decisions can be influenced by the opinions and behaviors conveyed by others and a person's career ambitions can be significantly stimulated if they have a role model. The role model, in addition to inspiration, also plays an important role in helping individuals learn to identify themselves so entrepreneurial role models impart entrepreneurial passion for individuals to shape entrepreneurial intentions. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to examine the mediating role of passion in both relationships: between entrepreneurial identity centrality and entrepreneurship intention as well as between the entrepreneurial role model and entrepreneurship intention. The study is a quantitative research, data is surveyed in a single time collected from a population. 531 questionnaires are distributed to young people who are studying and working in Ho Chi Minh City and has the intention to start-up their own business. The findings of the research show that both above relationships are significantly mediated by passion. The research could support the theory of distal and proximal antecedence that influence entrepreneurship intention for students

    Two decades of studies on learning management system in higher education: A bibliometric analysis with Scopus database 2000-2020

    Over the past twenty years, using learning management systems in higher education has attracted increasing interest from researchers around the globe. In this context, the current study aimed to explore the volume, growth trajectory, and geographic distribution of learning management systems in higher education literature, along with identifying impactful authors, sources, and publications, and highlight emerging research issues. The authors conducted bibliometric analysis on 1334 documents, related to the use of learning management systems in the context of higher education, extracted from Scopus database. The findings show a rapidly growing knowledge base on learning management systems in higher education, especially intensely in the years 2015-2020 and primarily from research in developed societies. This flourishing is consistent with the development trend of international education and the strong development of technology. In addition, the core literature was identified based on the volume of publications and citations. The results also reveal the emerging intellectual structure of the field and provide points of reference for scholars studying the discipline. This paper offers a knowledge map for future research assessments of learning management systems in higher education
