Critical Behavior in the Rotating D-branes
The low energy excitation of the rotating D3-branes is thermodynamically
stable up to a critical angular momentum density. This indicates that there is
a corresponding phase transition of the =4 large super Yang-Mills
theory at finite temperature. On the side of supergravity, we investigate the
phase transition in the grand canonical ensemble and canonical ensemble. Some
critical exponents of thermodynamic quantities are calculated. They obey the
static scaling laws. Using the scaling laws related to the correlation length,
we get the critical exponents of the correlation function of gauge field. The
thermodynamic stability of low energy excitations of the rotating M5-branes and
rotating M2-branes is also studied and similar critical behavior is observed.
We find that the critical point is shifted in the different ensembles and there
is no critical point in the canonical ensemble for the rotating M2-branes. We
also discuss the Hawking-Page transition for these rotating branes. In the
grand canonical ensemble, the Hawking-Page transition does not occur. In the
canonical ensemble, however, the Hawking-Page transition may appear for the
rotating D3- and M5-branes, but not for the rotating M2-branes.Comment: Revtex, 17 pages, minor changes, the discussion on the Hawking-Page

Cyclic cosmology from Lagrange-multiplier modified gravity
We investigate cyclic and singularity-free evolutions in a universe governed
by Lagrange-multiplier modified gravity, either in scalar-field cosmology, as
well as in one. In the scalar case, cyclicity can be induced by a
suitably reconstructed simple potential, and the matter content of the universe
can be successfully incorporated. In the case of -gravity, cyclicity can
be induced by a suitable reconstructed second function of a very
simple form, however the matter evolution cannot be analytically handled.
Furthermore, we study the evolution of cosmological perturbations for the two
scenarios. For the scalar case the system possesses no wavelike modes due to a
dust-like sound speed, while for the case there exist an oscillation
mode of perturbations which indicates a dynamical degree of freedom. Both
scenarios allow for stable parameter spaces of cosmological perturbations
through the bouncing point.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, references added, accepted for publicatio

Nonleptonic two-body charmless B decays involving a tensor meson in the Perturbative QCD Approach
Two-body charmless hadronic B decays involving a light tensor meson in the
final states are studied in the perturbative QCD approach based on
factorization. From our calculations, we find that the decay branching ratios
for color allowed tree-dominated decays and modes are of order and , respectively.
While other color suppressed tree-dominated decays have very small branching
ratios. In general, the branching ratios of most decays are in the range of
to , which are bigger by one or two orders of magnitude than
those predictions obtained in Isgur-Scora-Grinstein-Wise II model and in the
covariant light-front approach, but consistent with the recent experimental
measurements and the QCD factorization calculations. Since the decays with a
tensor meson emitted from vacuum are prohibited in naive factorization, the
contributions of nonfactorizable and annihilation diagrams are very important
to these decays, which are calculable in our perturbative QCD approach. We also
give predictions to the direct CP asymmetries, some of which are large enough
for the future experiments to measure. Because we considered the mixing between
and , the decay rates are enhanced significantly for some
decays involving meson, even with a small mixing angle.Comment: 26 pages, 2 figure
High-Fidelity Archeointensity Results for the Late Neolithic Period From Central China
Archeomagnetism focuses on exploring high-resolution variations of the geomagnetic field over hundreds to thousands of years. In this study, we carried out a comprehensive study of chronology, absolute and relative paleointensity on a late Neolithic site in central China. Ages of the samples are constrained to be ~3,500–3,000 BCE, a period when available paleointensity data are sparse. We present a total of 64 high-fidelity absolute paleointensities, demonstrating the field varied quickly from ~55 to ~90 ZAm2 between ~3,500–3,000 BCE. Our results record a new archeomagnetic jerk around 3,300 BCE, which is probably non-dipolar origin. The new results provide robust constraints on global geomagnetic models. We calculated a revised Chinese archeointensity reference curve for future application. The variations of absolute and relative paleointensity versus depth show good consistency, reinforcing the reliability of our results. This new attempt of combining absolute and relative paleointenstiy provides a useful tool for future archeomagnetic research
Charged null fluid collapse in anti-de Sitter spacetimes and naked singularities
We investigate the occurrence of naked singularities in the spherically
symmetric, plane symmetric and cylindrically symmetric collapse of charged null
fluid in an anti-de Sitter background. The naked singularities are found to be
strong in Tipler's sense and thus violate the cosmic censorship conjecture, but
not hoop conjecture.Comment: 8 pages, No figure
Sensitive Chemical Compass Assisted by Quantum Criticality
The radical-pair-based chemical reaction could be used by birds for the
navigation via the geomagnetic direction. An inherent physical mechanism is
that the quantum coherent transition from a singlet state to triplet states of
the radical pair could response to the weak magnetic field and be sensitive to
the direction of such a field and then results in different photopigments in
the avian eyes to be sensed. Here, we propose a quantum bionic setup for the
ultra-sensitive probe of a weak magnetic field based on the quantum phase
transition of the environments of the two electrons in the radical pair. We
prove that the yield of the chemical products via the recombination from the
singlet state is determined by the Loschmidt echo of the environments with
interacting nuclear spins. Thus quantum criticality of environments could
enhance the sensitivity of the detection of the weak magnetic field.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
