The Indonesian government’s coercive pressure on labour disclosures: conflicting interests or government ambivalence?
Purpose: This paper aims to focus on corporate social responsibility and workplace well-being by examining Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX)-listed companies’ labour disclosures. Design/methodology/approach: Year-ending 2007 and 2010 annual report disclosures of 31 IDX-listed companies are analysed. The widely acknowledged Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines are used as the disclosure index checklist. Findings: The results reveal that the overall labour disclosure level increases from 21.84 per cent in 2007 to 30.52 per cent in 2010. The levels of four of the five specific labour disclosures also increase with employment being the exception. The results further show that the Indonesian Government does not influence the increase in the levels of the overall labour disclosure or the four categories showing increased disclosure but, surprisingly, does significantly affect the decrease in the level of the employment category. Research limitations/implications: It is implied that the government is at best ambiguous given that, on one side, the government regulates all corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities and reporting but appears to coercively pressure companies to hide employment-specific issues. Practical implications: It is implied that Indonesian companies need to have “strong and influential” independent commissioners on the boards to counter any possible pressures from the government resulting in lower disclosure levels. Originality/value: This paper provides insights into the “journey” of labour-related CSR disclosure practices in Indonesia and contributes to the literature by testing one specific variant of isomorphic institutional theory, namely, coercive isomorphism
Hubungan Karakteristik dengan Partisipasi Masyarakat dalam Pengelolaan Sampah di Lingkungan III dan V Kelurahan Bagan Deli Kecamatan Medan Belawan Tahun 2012
Relationship of Responden Characteristics (Education, Income, Occupation Knowledge and Attitude) And The Management Of Solid Waste Management Program In Area III and V Bagan Deli, Medan Belawan sub-district. Solid waste management program is one of the programs of Ministry of Sea and Fishery in Medan Belawan sub-district. On its implementation, solid waste management program in area III and V yet done well. Lack of the participation of the society on solid waste management may be caused by less understanding on sorting out the rubbish of household. The objective of this research is to analyze the relationship of responden characteristics (education, income, occupation knowledge and attitude) and the management of solid waste management program in area III and V Bagan Deli, Medan Belawan sub-district. This research was analytical survey with cross sectional design. The population was the housewives living in area III and V Bagan Deli, Medan Belawan sub-district for 631 persons, and the sample was taken for 87 persons. The data of the characteristics (education, income occupation, knowledge and attitude), management program, and the participation of the people was taken through direct interview using questionnaire. The collected data then analyzed using chi-square test at α = 0,05.The resulth of research showed that statistically the characteristics include education (p-value = 0,028), occupation status (p-value= 0,000). Knowledge level (p-value=0,002), and attitude (p-value=0,000) has significant relationship not have significant influence to the participation of the society. It si suggested for the management program parties to improve socialization about solid waste management program in rder to get better understanding on the rubbish and to improve the participation of the people
Emergent Phenomena Induced by Spin-Orbit Coupling at Surfaces and Interfaces
Spin-orbit coupling (SOC) describes the relativistic interaction between the
spin and momentum degrees of freedom of electrons, and is central to the rich
phenomena observed in condensed matter systems. In recent years, new phases of
matter have emerged from the interplay between SOC and low dimensionality, such
as chiral spin textures and spin-polarized surface and interface states. These
low-dimensional SOC-based realizations are typically robust and can be
exploited at room temperature. Here we discuss SOC as a means of producing such
fundamentally new physical phenomena in thin films and heterostructures. We put
into context the technological promise of these material classes for developing
spin-based device applications at room temperature

A high-affinity [18 F]-labeled phosphoramidate peptidomimetic PSMA-targeted inhibitor for PET imaging of prostate cancer
IntroductionIn this study, a structurally modified phosphoramidate scaffold, with improved prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) avidity, stability and in vivo characteristics, as a PET imaging agent for prostate cancer (PCa), was prepared and evaluated.Methodsp-Fluorobenzoyl-aminohexanoate and 2-(3-hydroxypropyl)glycine were introduced into the PSMA-targeting scaffold yielding phosphoramidate 5. X-ray crystallography was performed on the PSMA/5 complex. [(18)F]5 was synthesized, and cell uptake and internalization studies were conducted in PSMA(+) LNCaP and CWR22Rv1 cells and PSMA(-) PC-3 cells. In vivo PET imaging and biodistribution studies were performed at 1 and 4 h post injection in mice bearing CWR22Rv1 tumor, with or without blocking agent.ResultsThe crystallographic data showed interaction of the p-fluorobenzoyl group with an arene-binding cleft on the PSMA surface. In vitro studies revealed elevated uptake of [(18)F]5 in PSMA(+) cells (2.2% in CWR22Rv1 and 12.1% in LNCaP) compared to PSMA(-) cells (0.08%) at 4 h. In vivo tumor uptake of 2.33% ID/g and tumor-to-blood ratio of 265:1 was observed at 4 h.ConclusionsWe have successfully synthesized, radiolabeled and evaluated a new PSMA-targeted PET agent. The crystal structure of the PSMA/5 complex highlighted the interactions within the arene-binding cleft contributing to the overall complex stability. The high target uptake and rapid non-target clearance exhibited by [(18)F]5 in PSMA(+) xenografts substantiates its potential use for PET imaging of PCa.Advances in knowledgeThe only FDA-approved imaging agent for PCa, Prostascint®, targets PSMA but suffers from inherent shortcomings. The data acquired in this manuscript confirmed that our new generation of [(18)F]-labeled PSMA inhibitor exhibited promising in vivo performance as a PET imaging agent for PCa and is well-positioned for subsequent clinical trials. Implications for Patient Care Our preliminary data demonstrate that this tracer possesses the required imaging characteristics to be sensitive and specific for PCa imaging in patients at all stages of the disease
