Computer program predicts performance of fluorine-hydrogen main tank injection pressurization system for full range of liquid-hydrogen-fueled space vehicles. Analytical model includes provisions for heat transfer, injectant jet penetration, and ullage gas mixing. Analysis predicts GF2 usage, ullage gas and tank wall temperatures, and LH2 evaporation

Law of Products Liability in West Virginia

We are now all well-accustomed to rapid change. Alvin Toffler writes in his book, aptly titled Future Shock, that the rate of change in society today is accelerating and has become a major challenge to the individual\u27s capacity to adapt and cope. In striking similarity, the change in products liability law has been so rapid that it presents one of the most fascinating examples of the common law\u27s flexibility and its leadership role in social change. The purpose of this article is to detect, hopefully, the current state of the law of products liability in West Virginia and to make some suggestions about the future course that may be followed. The law of products liability in West Virginia is rich in its variety of theories and its potential for development. The first theory investigated is negligence. Several points emerge. West Virginia\u27s negligence-based products liability law was quite conventional in terms of the pre-MacPherson\u27 law; yet remains unsettled even now so many years after MacPherson; and there is a rather sharp divergence of opinion between the federal courts (applying West Virginia law) and the West Virginia court as to the status of negligence-based products liability law in West Virginia. Some projections for the future are offered. Part two surveys the past and present state of warranty-based products liability law. A very short part three suggests that the introduction of strict liability in tort concepts into West Virginia\u27s products liability law may await legislative activity

Effects of Calcium Fertilization on Growth, Yield, and Nutrient Content of Hydroponically Grown Radish Microgreens

Radish microgreens were grown in a hydroponic wicking system and subjected to a range of calcium chloride (Ca) solutions to evaluate growth, yield, and mineral content. A solution range of 0 to 160 mM Ca was applied to determine upper limits of Ca fertilization. Solutions above 20 mM Ca showed toxic effects to germination and growth, while 5 and 10 mM Ca resulted in the greatest percent of shoots that grew to a desired size for harvest (%H), as well as greater average hypocotyl length per plant (HL) and cotyledon surface area per plant (CSA). For subsequent experiments, Ca solution range was narrowed to 0 to 10 mM Ca. A single best rate of Ca was not identified in this range, but trends suggested that added Ca can increase average fresh weight per plant (FW), HL, CSA, and the percent of shoots that develop a first true leaf (%TL). Capmat II growing media resulted in a low %H across multiple experiments, but when vermiculite was added as a growing media, average percent germination (%G) and %H increased in all treatments. Differences in plant size and biomass did not occur until higher Ca concentrations when microgreens were grown in vermiculite. In general, Ca content of plant tissues increased with Ca solution concentration; however, the level of increase was dependent on the media and whether treatments were applied at the time of planting or delayed until after germination

    Slush Hydrogen Technology Program

    Get PDF
A slush hydrogen (SH2) technology facility (STF) was designed, fabricated, and assembled by a contractor team of McDonnell Douglas Aerospace (MDA), Martin Marietta Aerospace Group (MMAG), and Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (APCI). The STF consists of a slush generator which uses the freeze-thaw production process, a vacuum subsystem, a test tank which simulates the NASP vehicle, a triple point hydrogen receiver tank, a transfer subsystem, a sample bottle, a pressurization system, and a complete instrumentation and control subsystem. The STF was fabricated, checked-out, and made ready for testing under this contract. The actual SH2 testing was performed under the NASP consortium following NASP teaming. Pre-STF testing verified SH2 production methods, validated special SH2 instrumentation, and performed limited SH2 pressurization and expulsion tests which demonstrated the need for gaseous helium pre-pressurized of SH2 to control pressure collapse. The STF represents cutting-edge technology development by an effective Government-Industry team under very tight cost and schedule constraints
