Hábito de assistir à televisão e sua relação com a alimentação: resultados do período de 2006 a 2014 em capitais brasileiras
Resumo: O objetivo foi analisar a evolução da frequência do hábito de assistir à TV no Brasil e identificar a associação entre este hábito e o consumo alimentar na população adulta do Brasil entre os anos de 2006 e 2014. Dados do sistema de Vigilância de Fatores de Risco e Proteção para Doenças Crônicas por Inquérito Telefônico (VIGITEL) entre os anos de 2006 e 2014 foram utilizados. O hábito diário de assistir à TV e o consumo alimentar de frutas, hortaliças, feijão, carnes, leite, refrigerantes e/ou bebidas adoçadas foram analisados ao longo dos anos, sendo sua associação investigada por meio de modelos de regressão. A frequência de adultos referindo assistir à televisão por ao menos 3 horas por dia não variou significativamente ao longo dos anos, porém, nestes indivíduos, foi possível verificar um menor consumo de alimentos saudáveis, e maior, daqueles não saudáveis. Essa situação foi verificada em ambos os sexos e em todas as faixas de idade e escolaridade pesquisadas. O hábito de assistir à TV está associado ao consumo alimentar não saudável

Magnetic fishing of recombinant green fluorescent proteins and tagged proteins with designed synthetic ligands
Biomimetic ligands have emerged to overcome disadvantages inherent in biological ligands. In particular, the Ugi reaction can generate scaffolds where molecular diversity can be introduced, allowing the synthesis and screening of ligand libraries in a high-throughput manner against a variety of biological targets. Two adsorbents bearing Ugi-based synthetic ligands, coined A4C7 and A7C1, were previously developed for the selective recovery of green fluorescent protein (GFP) and RKRKRK-tagged GFP directly from Escherichia coli crude extracts. This work describes, for the first time, the in situ synthesis of Ugi-based ligands on magnetic beads and their application in the magnetic recovery of cognate proteins
Exploring the potential of magnetic antimicrobial agents for water disinfection
Industrial and urban activities yield large amounts of contaminated groundwater, which present a major health issue worldwide. Infectious diseases are the most common health risk associated with drinking-water and wastewater remediation is a major concern of our modern society. The field of wastewater treatment is being revolutionized by new nano-scale water disinfection devices which outperform most currently available technologies. In particular, iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) have been widely used in environmental applications due to their unique physical-chemical properties. In this work, poly(ethylene) glycol (PEG)-coated MNPs have been functionalized with (RW)3, an antimicrobial peptide, to yield a novel magnetic-responsive support with antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli K-12 DSM498 and Bacillus subtilis 168. The magnetic-responsive antimicrobial device showed to be able to successfully disinfect the surrounding solution. Using a rapid high-throughput screening platform, the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined to be 500μM for both strains with a visible bactericidal effect
Affitins: Ribosome Display for Selection of Aho7c-Based Affinity Proteins
International audienceEngineered protein scaffolds have made a tremendous contribution to the panel of affinity tools owing to their favorable biophysical properties that make them useful for many applications. In 2007, our group paved the way for using archaeal Sul7d proteins for the design of artificial affinity ligands, so-called Affitins. For many years, Sac7d and Sso7d have been used as molecular basis to obtain binders for various targets. Recently, we characterized their old gifted protein family and identified Aho7c, originating from Acidianus hospitalis, as the shortest member (60 amino-acids) with impressive stability (96.5 °C, pH 0-12).
